PROSPECTUS 2020 Intermediate Programmes GOVERNMENT COLLEGE WOMEN UNIVERSITY FAISALABAD “ There are two powers in the worlds. One is the sword and to other, the pen. However, there is a third power stronger than both, that of the women” MUHAMMAD ALI JINNAH Founder of Pakistan Chancellor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar Governer of the Punjab H www.gcwuf.edu.pk Vice Chancellor Message Government College Women University is a distinguished institution in Faisalabad which is efficiently catering for the educational needs of the female community. From a modest beginning as an Intermediate College in 1934, GCWUF gained the current towering status of University in January 2013. Since then, it has been striving incessant- ly to empower female students by offering multi-disci- plinary programs ranging from Intermediate level to BS, MS/MSC, MPhil and PhD degree programs. The highly motivated faculty, determined to exploit all available re- sources, is contributing substantially to materialize the dream of women self-dependency and empowerment. Fully cognizant of the significance of knowledge-based econo- my and information technology, GCWUF aims to introduce new programs which are more specific to women employability and entrepreneurship. A fairly high amount is devoted to support economically disadvantaged and marginalized students through need-based and merit-based scholarships. At campus level, multiple societies are functionalized to explore the hidden talents of students. These societies are activated to design diverse opportunities for the mental and spiritual development of the potential participants. They are further objected to inculcate the desirable qualities of patience and tolerance among students to approve diversity of opinions, beliefs and practices in immediate and outer environment. At academic level, conferences, seminars and workshops are frequently conducted to nourish the creative and analytical capacities of students. We, at GCWUF, are committed to enhance our quality standards at internal and external level to achieve the sublime objectives outlined in the University Mission Statement. We are aimed to strengthen the core values of hard work, truthfulness and integrity. • Legislators of Non-European Origin in the British House of Commons, 2001–2015
Lucas Geese, Wolfgang Goldbach and Thomas Saalfeld Mobility and Representation: Legislators of Non-European Origin in the British House of Commons, 2001–2015 Abstract: While the share of immigrants as a percentage of the UK population has in- creased steadily since the 1950s, it was not until the early 2000s that the descriptive representation of such new citizens in the House of Commons became more propor- tional. Focusing on Members of Parliament with a “Black or Asian Minority Ethnic” background in the three Parliaments between 2001 and 2015, we examine the ex- tent to which these legislators’ parliamentary behaviour was influenced by their party membership, legislative experience, “immigrant generation” and constituency demographics. Based conceptually on a sociological “mobilities” framework and Fenno’s work on “Home Styles” in the US Congress, we perform a dictionary-based content analysis of over 23,000 parliamentary questions for written answer. Com- paring first-generation immigrants and the immediate descendants of such immi- grants, we find that the content of questions reflects a relatively strong concernfor transnational mobility amongst the former and a stronger focus on questions of so- cial mobility in the UK in the latter group. Having been the origin of significant levels of emigration to non-European des- tinations in previous centuries, European states have become the destinations for large-scale immigration from non-European societies since the Second World War. Great Britain is a case in point: the number of foreign-born

With the outbreak of coronavirus disease or coronavirus pandemic, now popularly known as COVID-19, a new worldwide discussion started that religion and religious gatherings can play an active role in accelerating the spread of coronavirus in the world. If, on one hand, religious gatherings were banned or at least limited in some Muslim countries while on the other hand, such faith-based gatherings have proven to be the hotbeds for outbreaks. The purpose of this study is to investigate the connection between the Tablighi Jama’at (TJ) and the coronavirus in Pakistan. It is believed that the participants carried the virus into different parts of Pakistan. This study finds that the number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan increased after the annual congregation of Tablighi Jamaat in March. Shia pilgrims from Iran also brought the virus from Iran to Pakistan. The paper finds that this pandemic may once again raise the issue of sectarianism in the county. The present research finds that Islamists have always been supported by the state. Now, it has become very difficult for state policy-makers to resist them in the present fight against the coronavirus. Keywords. Pakistan, Coronavirus, Tablighi Jama’at, Annual Ijtima, Political Islam, Shia Pilgrims 1.
