However, having seen the growth of the SUV customization market and the import car performance market we decided to come to the headquarters of high performance marketing in the U.S. – the SEMA Show,” he added. “We are here to display our cars, meet with aftermarket vendors and develop programs for Hyundai to participate in the import performance market. With our value advantage versus the import competitors, a Hyundai customer can buy one of our cars and still have a lot of money left over to purchase accessories and personalize their vehicle,” Ossenmacher said. Hyundai has just introduced three allnew vehicles to the U.S. market, the Santa Fe sport utility, the XG300 sedan and the allnew Elantra. The company displayed specially modified versions of these new vehicles in their SEMA booth. In addition, a modified version of the Hyundai Tiburon sport coupe was displayed along with the championshipwinning Pro Rally Tiburon prepared by John Buffum’s Libra Racing. The XG300 was fitted with 18inch Quantum Tek alloy wheels and Continental Contisport Contact performance tires. Other enhancements to the Hyundai XG300 include custom silver pearl paint, matching pearl leather seat inserts, a navigation system and Razo racing style pedals. Hyundai Elantra GT Even though the new GT 5door version of the Hyundai Elantra is not due in showrooms until next year, APC has worked its magic on a prototype GT. They lowered the car and installed huge, newtotheU.S.18inch wheels and tires. In addition, the GT received a custom paint job, custom interior and a new exhaust system. Hyundai Tiburon The Tiburon sport coupe featured in the Hyundai booth was modified by Rimmer Performance. Engine modifications include an engineering prototype supercharger system with Autorotor twinscrew compressor and watertoair intercooler using Laminova heat exchanger cores. Power output from this combination is reported to be 204 horsepower @ 6500 RPM. The 198 lbft of torque is available at a usable 3700 RPM. Rimmer claims the modified Tiburon will accelerate from 060 mph in just 6.5 seconds and cover the quarter mile in 14.7 seconds with a trap speed of 97.7 mph. Hyundai Tiburon Rally Car The Hyundai Tiburon Rally car campaigned by Libra Racing is engineered more for function that beauty, but it illustrates the toughness and durability of Hyundai vehicles in the grueling special stages of Pro Rally competition. For the 2000 Pro Rally racing season, which ended October 21 in Houghton, Michigan, Hyundai wrapped up it’s fifth Manufacturer’s Championship and driver Paul Choiniere won the Driver’s Championship. Last year Hyundai driver Noel Lawler won the Driver’s Championship. Choiniere and Lawler are Hyundai teammates and friends – until the green flag drops. The highly modified Hyundai Tiburon rally car is a purposebuilt racecar that delivers 381 turbocharged horsepower and uses all wheel drive to get that power to the ground.
