With Hyundai's Value Advantage, Aftermarket Modifications Have Never Been More Affordable

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 30, 2001 – Hyundai Motor America introduced six specially modified vehicles at its booth (# 7101, South Hall) today at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show. Hyundai made its inaugural appearance at the SEMA Show last year and is returning this year with even more radically customized vehicles, including two modified versions of the allnew 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6.

"The feedback we received last year from aftermarket suppliers and customers about our vehicles was outstanding, and we are back at SEMA with even more radically customized vehicles this year," said David Ossenmacher, director of product planning at Hyundai.

"There is a natural fit with Hyundai and tuners/consumers looking to do something special to their vehicle. Our distinctive and appealing designs, and superior value proposition allow a creative mind to develop a unique vehicle for about the same money as the price of one of our competitors unmodified vehicles,” he added.

“A good example is our hot, allnew Tiburon, with available aluminum V6 DOHC engine with dual exhaust, sixspeed manual , 17" wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, sport tuned suspension and highoutput Infinity sevenspeaker premium audio system with subwoofer. The Tiburon lays an affordable foundation for modifications from mild personalization to radical customization,” Ossenmacher said.

At the Hyundai booth this year are ultra custom versions of three of the hotselling Santa Fes; two not yet released, allnew 2003 Tiburon GT V6s; and one luxury concept vehicle, Hyundai LZ 450.

2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 – Modified by American Products Company (APC) The allnew 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6, shown in the United States for the firsttime last week at the South Florida International Auto Show, will be on sale in the first quarter of 2002. American Products Company (APC) has modified the allnew Tiburon using a “tuner” approach. The vehicle features an orange and white “import” style paint job incorporating the Hyundai “flying H” on the sides of the vehicle.

The headlights and taillights have been smoked using black and white clear coat, and polished mesh has been inserted into the front grill and spoiler air inlet area. Topping off the engine compartment is a carbonfiber hood.

The APC Tiburon has been lowered 1.4” using an Eibach suspension system and has been fitted with 225/35/19R Falken tires mounted on lightweight, twopiece forged, 19” x 8” wheels made by Motegi Racing. Stopping power at the front end is provided by Brembo four piston calipers mounted on 13.5inch Brembo crossdrilled rotors. The stock rear rotors have been crossdrilled. APC “Intimidator” mufflers handle the exhaust sound at the rear of the Tiburon.

Inside, APC fitted the Tiburon with white vinyl seats complemented by black suede inserts and orange piping to match the exterior of the vehicle. All interior plastic trim pieces have been given a fiberglass finished look and a custom roll bar has been installed. The APC shift knob kit adds a finishing touch to the interior.

2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 – Modified by Hyundai Motor America The allnew Hyundai Tiburon already has the appearance of exotic sports cars costing thousands of dollars more, so creating a more radical street/track performance look was not difficult. The first step was to lower the Tiburon, 1.4” using an Eibach suspension system. ALT 18” x 7.5” custom wheels have been fitted; and, the car sports 215/40/18R Pirelli P7000 rubber. To quickly scrub speed, 13.5” Brembo crossdrilled rotors with four piston Brembo calipers were installed on the front. The stock rear rotors were cross drilled and the stock calipers were painted to match the Brembos in front.

Aluminum mesh has been added to the front grille and spoiler air inlet area and for better night vision, this Tiburon is equipped with superwhite High Intensity Discharge (HID) bulbs.

The inside of the vehicle has also been modified. Red racing seats by Sparco have been installed, complete with four point harness seatbelts, as well as a Sparco racing steering wheel, shiftknob and foot pedals. To accent the red seats, red cloth door inserts with the “flying H” have been added. Indicating the high performance intent of the vehicle, the rear seats have been removed, and an interior roll bar has been added along with an exposed fullsize spare tire. The premium seven speaker factory installed Infinity sound system, including sub woofer, is retained to maximize street driving pleasure.

2002 – Modified by Rick’s Kustoms and Named: “Alter Ego” The 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai’s sportutility vehicle designed to fit U.S. consumer needs and desires, has proven to be a huge success for the company. For 2002, Hyundai is showing at the SEMA Show one radical ideal of what can be done with this hotseller. Rick’s Kustoms “Alter Ego” Santa Fe sports a “Tangelo Orange” paint job with “Passion Purple” tribal flames streaking over the hood and down the side of the vehicle.

In addition to the paint job, this Santa Fe has received several other exterior modifications. Starting at the front of the vehicle, the custom grille was hand milled from billet aluminum and then chromed. Moving down the side, all door handles have been shaved (removed). At the rear of the vehicle, the taillights have been shaved and the rear rounded off. Rick’s Kustom’s also removed the rear center license plate holder and tailgate handle, and by “frenching” the metal to the body, gave the tailgate a more rounded appearance. On top of the vehicle are two surfboards painted to match the exterior of the vehicle.

The vehicle has been lowered using Air Ride Technologies’ Air Ride System and rides on 18” custom wheels.

The interior of the Rick’s Kustoms modified Santa Fe incorporates high style with cuttingedge technology. The vehicle is equipped with an Accele Vision DVD system that incorporates five DVD monitors located in: the passenger visor, in a flipup dash mounted unit, in both the driver and front passenger head rests and a final 12” unit mounted in the cargo area of the vehicle on floating pedestals. The large 12” monitor in the cargo area of the vehicle faces the rear of the vehicle for ultimate tailgating.

Other modifications to the interior include: Benevento brushed aluminum interior trim; custom ice gray leather interior with charcoal leather wrap; molded headliner; custom sound system with Arc Audio amplifiers, Rainbow speakers throughout the vehicle and a 12” subwoofer mounted in the cargo area on floating pedestals.

2002 Hyundai Santa Fe – Modified by Algonquin The overall design direction of the Santa Fe modified by Algonquin is "urban highperformance.” The entire exterior surface from halfway down the door to the bottom of the vehicle (including both front and rear fascias) is restyled with different geometry using custom fabricated body panels.

The vehicle has an aggressive stance with the Eibach lowered suspension, custom Borla polished stainless dual exhaust and oversized custom 14” Brembo racing brakes with crossdrilled rotors and four piston calipers. The exterior of the vehicle features “Ocean Blue” PPG show car paint, which appears very dark from a distance but explodes into deep hues of royal blue as you get closer. The wheels were custom coated using a special PPG process in the color “Midnight Silver;” vehicle badging is coated to match. The tires are handcut Michelin racing tires using the Michelin logo as the tread.

Exterior highlights include a custom roof rail/rack that is precision machined from a solid onepiece bar of aircraft aluminum. This aluminum detail is echoed in the rear fascia, using the same material to create vertical bars in the vented rear opening next to the dual Borla exhaust. To tie it all together, the same aluminum look is used again in front to surround the custom fog lamps.

The interior features custom black perforated leather seats by Recaro, highlighted with blue gauges, blue racing harnesses by Simpson and a blue Santa Fe insignia embroidered into the seatback, all of which tie in to the blue exterior of the vehicle. An Autovision DVD overhead system by Johnson Controls, Inc. (JCI) and HDK brushed aluminum pedals complete the premium sports luxury theme.

2002 Hyundai Santa Fe – Prepared for Mongoose Race Team This 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe has been modified for the Mongoose Race Team. As such, it has been equipped with the necessary Yakima bike rack capable of carrying two race bikes upright on the roof. From the outside, this Santa Fe receives blacked out headlights, mesh in the front grille and spoiler air inlet, and handsome sport decals relating to the Hyundai sponsored Mongoose Race Team. The vehicle is fitted with 18” x 8” Mille Miglia wheels and 255/55/18R Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires. The rotors of the four wheel disc brakes have been crossdrilled.

Interior modifications include black leather seats with gray inserts and orange piping; the steering wheel and shiftknob are also covered in black leather with orange stitching. This Mongoose Race Team Santa Fe receives a stateoftheart headliner mounted DVD system by JCI with large flip down LCD color screen.

Hyundai LZ 450 Concept Car The Hyundai LZ 450 Concept Car is based on the largest, most luxurious sedan in Hyundai’s world wide product line. The luxury sedan is known as the Equus and is sold only in the Asian market. This LZ 450 Concept has been lowered and rides on 20” inch wheels with Michelin Pilot 245/45/20 rubber. The vehicle has also received a custom twotone paint job and window tinting. On the inside, the LZ 450 features a custom leather interior with real wood trim dash and steering wheel.

In addition to the vehicles on display in the Hyundai booth, other models can be found in booths around the Las Vegas Convention Center. A European rally inspired Elantra modified by JEM Motorsports can be found in the Specialty Vehicle section. An Elantra GT can be found in the APC booth (# 8747). This vehicle has been painted in a Eurotuner style and has received several modifications to both the exterior and interior.
