    Volunteering Opportunities The Power of Giving - Koach Latet Beersheba Too many needy Israeli individuals and families live in shameful conditions, lacking basic amenities for the home and even bare essentials like a bed, refrigerator, table and chairs, stove, or a baby carriage. With the poverty rate in Israel currently standing at 25%, thousands of people struggle to furnish their homes with even the most basic of necessities. Meir Panim’s Response - a Powerful Solution To meet this need, Meir Panim’s “Koach Latet” Power of Giving (POG) warehouses collect second-hand equipment donated by Israeli citizens, including furniture, household electrical appliances, clothes, etc. for distribution to needy individuals. POG collects the donations directly from the benefactor’s homes with its delivery trucks and brings the equipment to the network's branches throughout the country. The equipment is repaired, cleaned, and catalogued, and hundreds of volunteers distribute them to the needy, new immigrants and lone soldiers. Needy individuals receive referrals to visit POG’s centers from local Welfare and Absorption services. They choose the products that they need for their homes, pay a token fee and their “purchases” are promptly delivered to their homes by POG’s delivery trucks. Our Clientele Recipients include victims of terror attacks trying to rebuild their lives, lone soldiers who came to Israel on their own to serve in the IDF, new immigrants, the elderly and handicapped, and thousands of needy students who receive backpacks and school supplies via POG’s associated programs. The Fifth Season 14|02–05|05|2019 The art installation ‘The Fifth Season’ by Israeli artist Ronit Agassi will be shown at the Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism from 14 February. Agassi’s works and objects, some of which were created especially for the Documentation Centre, revolve around the seasons and various aspects of human threat.     ZOYA CHERKASSKY BIOGRAPHY Zoya Cherkassky was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1976. In 1991, she immigrated to Israel. She attended HaMidrasha School of Art at Bier Berl College. Her work has been shown internationally at institutions including; Rosenfeld Gallery Tel Aviv, Henrich Böll Foundation Gallery Tel Aviv, Circle1 Gallery Berlin, Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin, Guelman Gallery Moscow, and The Tel Aviv Museum of Art. In 2018, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem held a mid- career survey of her work. Cherkassky’s work is included in the permanent collections of The Jewish Museum New York, Jewish Museum Berlin, Jewish Museum Vienna, The Israel Museum Jerusalem, Tel Aviv Museum of Art Tel Aviv, and The Doron Sebbag Art Collection Tel Aviv.     Monuments, Site-Specific Sculpture and Urban Space (Be'er Sheva, 18 Dec 14) Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Be'er Sheva, Dec 18, 2014 Deadline: Jun 30, 2014 Inbal Ben-Asher Gitler, Sapir Academic College Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Department of the Arts Call for Papers: Monuments, Site-Specific Sculpture and Urban Space: A symposium honoring the jubilee of Dani Karavan’s Monument to the Negev Brigade 18 December 2014 In honor of the fiftieth jubilee of the Monument to the Negev Brigade, and in honor of its creator, Dani Karavan, the Ben-Gurion university and its Department of the Arts is holding a symposium that seeks to shed new light on the monument and upon related art historical issues. The Monument to the Negev Brigade, or by its full name, The Negev Brigade Independence War Memorial, was created in the outskirts of Be’er Sheva, Israel, upon a hill overlooking the city. Built between 1963-1968, it was a pioneering work of art in twentieth-century large-scale site-specific sculpture. It was one of Karavan’s first projects, one that anticipated his future artistic develop- ment as a sculptor engaged with site-specific sculpture internationally. Made entirely of exposed concrete and negotiating volume, space, light and shadow, the monument challenges traditional boundaries between sculpture, environmental art and architecture. As a pioneering manifestation of modern art in Be’er-Sheva, it has acquired a prominent place in its urban space, existing both within it and without, and connoting multiple levels of local and national meanings. With the monument as its point of departure, this symposium invites papers that open up new per- spectives and propose new frameworks for approaching and analyzing monuments, memorials and site-specific sculpture, as well as their relationship to urban space.
