C o n v e n i e n c e B a n k ANNUAL REPORT 2005 Krung Thai Bank Pcl. 5 Mr. Suparut Kawatkul Chairman of the Board of Directors Message from the Chairman and the President Dear Valued Shareholders, The Bank has taken a clear direction of its business operation to achieve the vision of being çThe Convenience Banké, that is a convenience bank for all customer groups both as a çBank for Governmenté and a çBank for Businessé as well as a çBank for Banksé. The previous year 2005 was a year of self-preparation for laying strong foundation to boost the future business operation potential of the Bank by stressing the importance of customer needs. The Bank thus specified the form of its business and management structure to cater for corporate customers, medium business clients, retail customers including public sector clients. Regarding the increase of fee-based income, the Bank has set the application programs and arranged the format of product groups in preparation for providing services of funds transfer, payments and cash management as a more comprehensive çProcessing Banké. As for the operating performance in 2005, income continually increased with the net profit of Baht 13,024 million, up 17.4 percent from 2004, although the bank was obligated to pay corporate income tax of Baht 4,279 million after enjoying tax exemption in the prior year.     TOURISM AND HISTORY CHANGE AND ADAPATION OF LOCALS IN THE TOURISM PERIOD A S TUDY OF KOH SAMUI IN SOUTHERN THAIALND YUTHASAK CHATKAEWNAPANON A thesis submitted for the degree of MTour at the University of Otago Dunedin, New Zealand October 2011 ABSTRACT Tourism and History: Change and Adaptation of Locals in the Tourism Period A Study of Koh Samui in Southern Thailand This thesis proposes an analytic framework of tourism history and discusses its value for a tourist destination’s analysis. Employing a tourism history perspective, the thesis focuses on Koh Samui case study as a reference. This is done to illustrate specific points of the thesis’s argument, such as demonstrating the validity of the analytic tool, which in this thesis links history philosophy (and their perspectives) with tourism studies. Focusing on the case study the thesis examines the influences of tourism development on Koh Samui society, an island in the Southern part of Thailand. In response to the growth of global tourism, Koh Samui has changed significantly from having an agricultural livelihood to a tourism economy. The thesis argues that the present society is the product of wider historical processes that have not been addressed yet. The focus of the thesis goes beyond the account of the interaction between Koh Samui and its tourism development as it is argued that the present society of Koh Samui is the product of reinforcement between global tourism and the islands’ historical and cultural legacy. Regarding the history of Koh Samui, the island has been significantly influenced by Thailand’s central history, particularly in relation to the effects of the Thailand modernization process and also, more recently, Thailand tourism system.

September 2001 The Vietnam War and Tourism in Bangkok's Development, 1960-70 Porphant OUYYANONT* Abstract This paper explores the reasons behind Bangkok's rapid growth in the 1960s, concentrating on two particular influences: the Vietnam War and its related developments. and the first significant upsurge in tourism. It is suggested that US military involvement in the Vietnam War had a significant impact on the development of Bangkok's service and construction industries. Particularly important was a major burst of construction activity in the 1960s: new suburbs developed and hotels and other commercial building sprang up. The financial. commercial and tourist industries experienced rapid growth, and construc­ tion followed in their wake. The presence of the US military in Vietnam indirectly induced an influx of foreign direct investment boosting the growth of industry in Bangkok. Tourism added to the expansion of services and construction. Among the reasons for the increase in tourism were the stable political atmosphere and the development of Bangkok as a crossroads of international air transportation. The hotel industry and retail industry both expanded rapidly due to tourist demand. I Introduction The 1960s was a crucial decade in the history of Bangkok. It was a period which saw an astonishing pace of development. in road building, housing development. hotels. and in various other ways.
