ANNUAL REPORT 2019 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD Dear Friends, As we welcome the start of a new year, it is a wonderful time to reflect back on the accomplishments of 2019 across Elliot Health System and to extend our sincerest thanks to you, our caring and generous donors, who support the high-quality and compassionate care of the Elliot through your philanthropic support. In 2019, Elliot Health System was named best hospital for the 7th consecutive year by the Best of Business (BOB) Awards from the New Hampshire Business Review. In addition, we are proud to report that over 50 members of our medical staff were named Top Docs by NH Magazine. These accolades would not be possible without the dedicated team members across Elliot Health System. In the spring of 2019, Elliot Hospital’s Trauma Center was verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level II program. This achievement comes after a multi-year commitment to elevating our program, ensuring our community has the clinical capability in place to care for traumatic injuries. As a result of that work, Elliot Hospital is greater Manchester’s only Level II Trauma Center. In June, our ground breaking ceremony for the Elliot Regional Cancer Center took place. The new Center will give patients with a cancer diagnosis a state-of-the-art center for treatment, staffed with experts in cancer care, long recognized for their high-quality care and dedication to patients and their families. Joining our talented Elliot medical providers in cancer care are our partners, Radiation Oncology Associates and NH Oncology-Hematology, who will also play an important role in care offered at the new Elliot Regional Cancer Center. The work we do together is a valuable example of how having the right partners creates opportunity for exceptional and local cancer care. We look forward to offering increased access to comprehensive care to patients in the community as demand for medical oncology and radiation services increases year over year. The generous donations you give to the Mary & John Elliot Charitable Foundation have made a tremendous impact across the Elliot and for the greater Manchester communities we serve. In this report, you will learn more about how we are southern New Hampshire’s first choice to give and receive care and see highlights of how your giving is truly at work for the patients we serve. Elliot Health System is committed to providing excellent care day after day to many thousands of individuals. It is a privilege to serve the people of this region and deliver on our mission to Inspire wellness, Heal our patients and Serve with compassion in every interaction. Your support to the Elliot makes these improvements possible. We thank you for your commitment to the Elliot! With gratitude, W. Gregory Baxter, MD James J. Tenn, Jr. Esq. The footprint of the building is now fully visible and the "vault,” a specialized room for the new Linear Accelerator for Radiation Therapy, will be ready for patients by March, 2020. The Center will also include dedicated Patient Navigators who will work with cancer patients to ensure that their journey is coordinated, the complexity of the cancer journey is easier to manage, and that patients and their families feel support throughout their treatment and beyond. Patient navigators represent a new and important service that will greatly help patients and their families through the difficult journey when a cancer diagnosis is received. When complete, the new Elliot Regional Cancer Center will include radiation oncology, cancer screening services, cutting-edge imaging, surgery, radiation therapy, medical infusion, post-acute care, palliative care, physical and occupational therapy, integrative medicine, laboratory, pharmacy, meditation area, and an outdoor healing garden. The new Elliot Regional Cancer Center will open later this year (2020). Thanks to your generosity, we are easing the burden of cancer for the patients we serve. Hope is Here! MARY & JOHN ELLIOT CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 2019 02/03 Page 4 ANNUAL REPORT 2019 “In the summer of 2017, I was diagnosed with two different cancers at the same time, both inside my chest. "OF ALL THE THINGS A CANCER PATIENT HAS TO WORRY ABOUT, FIGURING OUT HOW TO WADE THROUGH THE COMPLICATED MAZE OF CANCER CARE SHOULDN’T BE ONE OF THEM." "It does my heart good to know the new cancer center will have nurse navigators to support and guide patients and families on this journey. I believe it’s crucial, as having a go-to person with medical expertise and logistics superpowers can take some of the burden off an already overwhelmed patient and their caregivers.” “Along with the navigating piece, I think of equal importance and what I’m most grateful for is the new cancer center having both medical oncology (chemotherapy) and radiation oncology in the same building, as many patients, me included, have to undergo chemo and radiation over the same time course.” - Cindy Loeffler RECOGNIZING DONORS WITH CHARITABLE HONOR ROLL OF DONORS CONTRIBUTIONS OF $500 OR MORE FROM JANUARY 1, 2019 - DECEMBER 31, 2019 Notes deceased Debra Achramowicz Ms. Kathleen Brown Ms. Kathleen Brown ADP Foundation Bellwether Community Dr. Malgorzata D. This certification comes after many years of commitment to elevating the program to ensure the greater Manchester community has the clinical capability in place, 24/7, to care for traumatic injuries. Elliot Trauma Center is now equipped to care for people who experience blunt force trauma, penetrating trauma, orthopedic trauma, and many other critical conditions. Time is always of the essence for a patient when a trauma occurs and in almost all circumstances, treatment will be delivered at the Elliot without the need for transfers out. Your support of the Elliot ensures that we are able to provide the very best care possible – for you, your family, friends and neighbors! Devin was in a large pickup truck, stopped at a red light when a large 10-wheeler plowed into his truck. He was wearing his seat belt, but the accident caused a critical cervical spine injury known as an internal decapitation, as well as injury to vessels that supply blood to the brain and his chest. Devin was transported to the Elliot Hospital Trauma Center for treatment. Through critical teamwork and highly coordinated trauma care from over a dozen clinical providers ranging from vascular surgery to social work, Devin has recovered from his injuries and is back at work. "The Elliot Team showed us tremendous kindness and compassion during a horrific time, says Devin’s mother. “Thank you to the many people involved at the Elliot in saving his life.” Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Dr. Matthew Dayno & Elliot Hospital Physician Northern New England, Inc.
