ANNUAL REPORT 2019 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

Dear Friends,

As we welcome the start of a new year, it is a wonderful time to reflect back on the accomplishments of 2019 across Elliot Health System and to extend our sincerest thanks to you, our caring and generous donors, who support the high-quality and compassionate care of the Elliot through your philanthropic support.

In 2019, Elliot Health System was named best hospital for the 7th consecutive year by the Best of Business (BOB) Awards from the Business Review. In addition, we are proud to report that over 50 members of our medical staff were named Top Docs by NH Magazine. These accolades would not be possible without the dedicated team members across Elliot Health System.

In the spring of 2019, Elliot Hospital’s was verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level II program. This achievement comes after a multi-year commitment to elevating our program, ensuring our community has the clinical capability in place to care for traumatic injuries. As a result of that work, Elliot Hospital is greater Manchester’s only Level II Trauma Center.

In June, our ground breaking ceremony for the Elliot Regional Cancer Center took place. The new Center will give patients with a cancer diagnosis a state-of-the-art center for treatment, staffed with experts in cancer care, long recognized for their high-quality care and dedication to patients and their families. Joining our talented Elliot medical providers in cancer care are our partners, Radiation Oncology Associates and NH Oncology-Hematology, who will also play an important role in care offered at the new Elliot Regional Cancer Center. The work we do together is a valuable example of how having the right partners creates opportunity for exceptional and local cancer care. We look forward to offering increased access to comprehensive care to patients in the community as demand for medical oncology and radiation services increases year over year.

The generous donations you give to the Mary & John Elliot Charitable Foundation have made a tremendous impact across the Elliot and for the greater Manchester communities we serve. In this report, you will learn more about how we are southern New Hampshire’s first choice to give and receive care and see highlights of how your giving is truly at work for the patients we serve.

Elliot Health System is committed to providing excellent care day after day to many thousands of individuals. It is a privilege to serve the people of this region and deliver on our mission to Inspire wellness, Heal our patients and Serve with compassion in every interaction. Your support to the Elliot makes these improvements possible. We thank you for your commitment to the Elliot!

With gratitude,

W. Gregory Baxter, MD James J. Tenn, Jr. Esq. President Chair, Board of Trustees Elliot Health System Mary & John Elliot Charitable Foundation

MARY & JOHN ELLIOT CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 2019 02/03 Page 2 ANNUAL REPORT 2019 THE DAVISON AWARD FOR PHILANTHROPY AMOSKEAG ANESTHESIA

Each year, the Mary & John Elliot Charitable Foundation Board of Trustees nominate extraordinary individuals and organizations who have exhibited thoughtful philanthropic support of Elliot Health System. The winner of the 2018 Davison Award for Philanthropy, Amoskeag Anesthesia, was announced at the Elliot Health System Annual Meeting in January, 2019.

The Davison Award for Philanthropy, established in 2001, is named for philanthropists and friends, Lucille and Robert Davison, and recognizes individuals or organizations who have:

Provided extraordinary generosity to Elliot; Actively encouraged others to support the Elliot; Assisted in growing our circle of friends; Provided ambassadorship efforts on behalf of the Elliot; Built partnerships and coalitions which benefit the Elliot; Worked to improve not just the Elliot, but the greater Manchester region.

2018 Davison Award winner, Amoskeag Anesthesia, is an integral part of the Elliot team. This medical practice has been a donor to the Elliot at the leadership level for over 15 years. They have been a sponsor and supporter of the Annual Golf Classic since its inception 20 years ago, and most recently have supported all of Elliot’s major events through the corporate partnership program.

With the largest capital campaign in Elliot’s history underway, Amoskeag Anesthesia physicians and clinicians once again stepped up to support our efforts with a generous leadership gift. They are true philanthropists, and we are grateful for their leadership and generosity.

MARY & JOHN ELLIOT CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 2019 02/03 Page 3 ANNUAL REPORT 2019 A NEW ELLIOT REGIONAL CANCER CENTER In June 2019, we celebrated the groundbreaking for the new Elliot Regional Cancer Center and since then, incredible progress has been made with construction. The footprint of the building is now fully visible and the "vault,” a specialized room for the new Linear Accelerator for Radiation Therapy, will be ready for patients by March, 2020.

The Center will also include dedicated Patient Navigators who will work with cancer patients to ensure that their journey is coordinated, the complexity of the cancer journey is easier to manage, and that patients and their families feel support throughout their treatment and beyond. Patient navigators represent a new and important service that will greatly help patients and their families through the difficult journey when a cancer diagnosis is received.

When complete, the new Elliot Regional Cancer Center will include radiation oncology, cancer screening services, cutting-edge imaging, surgery, radiation therapy, medical infusion, post-acute care, palliative care, physical and occupational therapy, integrative medicine, laboratory, pharmacy, meditation area, and an outdoor healing garden.

The new Elliot Regional Cancer Center will open later this year (2020). Thanks to your generosity, we are easing the burden of cancer for the patients we serve. Hope is Here!

MARY & JOHN ELLIOT CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 2019 02/03 Page 4 ANNUAL REPORT 2019 “In the summer of 2017, I was diagnosed with two different cancers at the same time, both inside my chest.

"OF ALL THE THINGS A CANCER PATIENT HAS TO WORRY ABOUT, FIGURING OUT HOW TO WADE THROUGH THE COMPLICATED MAZE OF CANCER CARE SHOULDN’T BE ONE OF THEM." "It does my heart good to know the new cancer center will have nurse navigators to support and guide patients and families on this journey. I believe it’s crucial, as having a go-to person with medical expertise and logistics superpowers can take some of the burden off an already overwhelmed patient and their caregivers.” “Along with the navigating piece, I think of equal importance and what I’m most grateful for is the new cancer center having both medical oncology (chemotherapy) and radiation oncology in the same building, as many patients, me included, have to undergo chemo and radiation over the same time course.” - Cindy Loeffler

MARY & JOHN ELLIOT CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 2019 02/03 Page 5 ANNUAL REPORT 2019 ELLIOT VERIFIED AS LEVEL II TRAUMA CENTER In April, 2019 Elliot Hospital’s Trauma program was verified as a Level II Trauma Center, recognizing Elliot Hospital’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients. This certification comes after many years of commitment to elevating the program to ensure the greater Manchester community has the clinical capability in place, 24/7, to care for traumatic injuries. Elliot Trauma Center is now equipped to care for people who experience blunt force trauma, penetrating trauma, orthopedic trauma, and many other critical conditions. Time is always of the essence for a patient when a trauma occurs and in almost all circumstances, treatment will be delivered at the Elliot without the need for transfers out. Your support of the Elliot ensures that we are able to provide the very best care possible – for you, your family, friends and neighbors!

Devin was in a large pickup truck, stopped at a red light when a large 10-wheeler plowed into his truck. He was wearing his seat belt, but the accident caused a critical cervical spine injury known as an internal decapitation, as well as injury to vessels that supply blood to the brain and his chest. Devin was transported to the Elliot Hospital Trauma Center for treatment. Through critical teamwork and highly coordinated trauma care from over a dozen clinical providers ranging from vascular surgery to social work, Devin has recovered from his injuries and is back at work. "The Elliot Team showed us tremendous kindness and compassion during a horrific time, says Devin’s mother. “Thank you to the many people involved at the Elliot in saving his life.”

MARY & JOHN ELLIOT CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 2019 02/03 Page 6 ANNUAL REPORT 2019 CARING FOR OUR SMALLEST PATIENTS

Through your generous philanthropic support, the Elliot labor and delivery clinical staff are prepared for the unexpected, thanks to a state-of-the art simulation lab, featuring mother and baby “manikins.” These simulator training tools have helped to advance clinical training at the Elliot and improve health outcomes for both mothers and newborns, particularly those with complications during the birthing process. The use of simulation for high-risk labor and delivery scenarios has allowed staff to better prepare for emergency situations that may arise during labor. Simulation training facilitates teamwork and deepens critical thinking skills in learners of all levels and is comprehensively designed to help improve patient safety in women’s health through education and training. This technology would not be possible without philanthropy. Your support continues to allow us to provide cutting edge technologies to ensure that our smallest patients receive the best care and technologies available, close to home.

MARY & JOHN ELLIOT CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 2019 02/03 Page 7 ANNUAL REPORT 2019 When Jennifer and her husband, Semir, were expecting their first child, everything seemed to be going according to plan. The nursery was ready, and they completed a birthing class. After a normal pregnancy, Jennifer went into labor at 39 weeks and experienced a difficult delivery, resulting in an emergency C-section. Her son, Edin, faced some challenges immediately after birth and was immediately taken to the NICU where cooling therapy was initiated. A neonatal cooling blanket was used to protect his developing brain. The cooling blanket lowers body temperature which slows the body's metabolism to prevent or minimize injury. Donors at our Vineyard Garden Event helped to fund new a cooling blanket for our NICU transport team. The team travels to bring our youngest patients to the Elliot NICU for care.

“TODAY, EDIN, IS A HEALTHY 22 MONTH OLD WITH NORMAL NEUROLOGICAL FUNCTION AND MRI'S,” SAYS JENNIFER. “HOWEVER, WITHOUT THE STATE-OF-THE-ART COOLING THERAPY TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE AT THE ELLIOT, I'M NOT SURE IF THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR THE RESOURCES THAT WERE AVAILABLE TO ALLOW THE NICU STAFF TO CARE FOR OUR SON."

MARY & JOHN ELLIOT CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 2019 02/03 Page 8 ANNUAL REPORT 2019 2019 marked the first anniversary of SolutionHealth. Together, as founding members, Elliot Health System and Southern New Hampshire Health are working to deliver innovative models of care and collaboration to improve the health and well-being of more than half a million residents of our region across more than 160 sites of care. In response to the healthcare challenges facing our community including shortages of primary care providers, and a fragmented system of care leaving families struggling to find what the services they need at a location convenient to them.

With a focus on better serving the community, we have achieved some significant milestones in our first year, including improved access to care in behavioral health, neonatal care, pediatric surgical care, inpatient adult care, trauma care, advanced endoscopy, cardiology, dermatology, orthopedic trauma care and aligning the Lab Services across the system under one leader.

SolutionHealth is committed to providing advanced clinical care specialties and programs, bringing expert clinical care to support patients who would otherwise be further challenged by having to travel outside our region or state for their care.
