MARKET BRIEF DEMOGRAPHICS PSYCHOGRAPHICS Health consciousness has seeped into the national conversation in recent years, and our survey shows that 57% of consumers now spend Census on health and wellness. PROBLEMS IN NORMAL AND ADAPTIVE CLOTHING 1. Everything is designed for a standing body. they dont fit right in sitted and truncated pos- tures. for people who are sitting all the time, their spinal cord tends to shift forward. 2. The physical act of donning and doffing is extremely exhaustive. 3. Shirts and tops ride up while pants ride down. 4. Ready to wear clothes are never designed taking into consideration, the correct body proportions of the disabled. The fit is always wrong and every piece of clothing they ever buy and own is hence tailored. 5. They are the ugliest looking clothes ever made andnever satisfy the buyer’s need for fashion 6. Seams and cloth labels and tags cause irritation for autistic 7. Pockets never add to utility for people bound to wheelchairs 8. People with disabilities usually don’t get much mechanical activity done. As a result they feel conscious about their stomach showing through clothing and leads to an un- healthy underconfident body psychology. 9. People do not wish to be regarded as be- ing different from everyone else and may also react in a nega- tive manner to clothing which has been specially modified to suit their needs. Such persons look at cloth- ing as an aid to independence while being a means of blending-in with their peers, as- serting their identity and confront prejudice. Unfortunately this clothing category does not still exist. 10. Merchandise available for the disabled is limited and isn’t always in sync with the cur- rent fashion trends. 11. The lack of attractive functional clothing keeps differently abled people away from weddings, school dances, funerals, baseball games and graduation, homecoming. 12. After studying more than 30 websites featuring adaptive clothing, it was realized that all the sites were selling only in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and in some cases even in China. 13. Indian sites offering clothing for the differently abled are nonexistent except for Chennai based Old is Gold which also has very limit- ed offerings. 14. In the Indian context, there seems to be an abysmal lack of initiative taken by leading clothing brands to address this very real issue with only a small handful of individual designers leading the way, that too in a limited manner. 15. Special attention should also be paid to the socio economic strata that maximum of these persons belong to in terms of affordability, durability, functionality and ease of maintenance of such clothing. • The Coppice Newsletter 28.05.2021
The Coppice Newsletter 28.05.2021 Happy, Confident and Successful Learners; Well Prepared for life. Welcome to this week’s ‘special edition’ newsletter, which has a sole focus on your child’s school uniform expectations for the coming academic year. Obviously we are well aware that this year has been a tricky one, which is why we have taken a more relaxed view of uniform expectations during this time. We made a conscious choice as a Leadership Team not to impose tight expectations during a period where children were in and out of school, as this wouldn’t have been fair financially on you as parents and carers. From September 2021 however, I want to start the academic year with all parents and carers clearly understanding that their children must adhere to the school’s uniform and PE/Forest School kit expectations. These are outlined in detail in the tables below and we have included visuals to help explain further. I am aware that this coming half-term holiday often marks the start of parents and carers starting to purchase uniform for September as there are many ‘early-bird’ offers starting to be advertised in shops. Therefore, I felt that it was vitally important to get this information to you now so that both you and your children can be properly prepared to meet the expec- tations. The reasons that I wish for all of our children to have the same, high standard in both school uniform and PE kit is that it gives our children a clear identity. It shows that they all belong to The Coppice Primary School.

Adaptive Fashion: A New Design Methodology for People with Disabilities A thesis submitted to the Graduate School of the University of Cincinnati in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Design in the Myron E. Ullman Jr. School of Design College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning by Cara Indiano BS in Fashion Design from University of Cincinnati Committee Chair Dr. Samantha Krukowski Committee Member Arti Sandhu Committee Member J. Antonio Islas-Munoz 4/2/19 iv ABSTRACT With 54 million US adults with disabilities and two adaptive fashion brands currently in the US, there is a huge gap in niche market that has been untapped. This is due to the systemic failures that contribute to a lack of visibility for people with disabilities(PWDs), a lack of centralized research on adaptive clothing, and a lack of will from the fashion industry. These systemic failures have far reaching consequences for PWDs and the fashion industry. This thesis proposes a methodology that will help fashion designers, efficiently design fashion for PWDs, without requiring the use of new and expensive equipment as well as be a grounds for researching new and testing old design solutions for PWDs, until a design system is created. v vi ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I’d like to take this opportunity to sincerely acknowledge all of those who got me to this point. First thank you to my committee Chair Dr. Samantha Krukowski, I truly appreciate you letting/making me steer my own ship, giving me pep talks/smack downs when I needed them, and helping me trust in my own guidance, I will take your lessons with me long after this is over.

  • Choosing Clothing for Children with Special Needs by Susan Agrawal
www.ComplexChild.com Choosing Clothing for Children with Special Needs by Susan Agrawal I can't even remember how many clothing items I've received as holiday or birthday gifts that I've donated to charity because my daughter simply cannot wear them. Because my daughter cannot play with most toys, a lot of friends and relatives seem to think clothing is a good choice for a gift. What they don't realize is that some items of clothing are next to impossible to get on her due to her muscle tone, while others interfere with her medical equipment. My intent is to set forth a few guidelines for family and friends to help them choose appropriate clothing for children with high or low muscle tone, or who have motor impairments or medical equipment that makes dressing difficult. Of course, each child has unique needs, but hopefully the following general principles will be helpful in guiding purchases. Clothing to Accommodate Medical Equipment Many children with complex medical issues have what we like to call "attachments" and "piercings." These may include feeding tubes in the belly or nose, a trach, oxygen, an IV line in the arm or on the chest, ostomy bags, catheters, and gastric drainage bags, to name a few. Many children of all ages wear diapers or use wheelchairs that may restrict their clothing choices. All of this medical equipment can interfere with dressing and clothing choices. NG Tubes, Vents and Oxygen Any child who has equipment on the face, such as a nasogastric (NG) tube or oxygen, will have some difficulty with clothing that pulls over the head, such as t-shirts and polo shirts.

Nebraska Cooperative Extension NF92-83 Older People: Where Should They Go For Clothes? Rose Marie Tondl, Extension Clothing Specialist The effect of the growing number of older Americans on the economy and the changing needs of the active senior citizens of the nineties is well documented. In spite of the recently noted active lifestyle, affluent status, and ever rapidly growing number of older people, the physical challenges of the normal aging process can not be denied. Limited motion, wrinkled skin, changing posture, and sagging muscles are inevitable. Although these physical changes are not chronic or life threatening, they do affect how an older consumer functions. Attractive and functional clothing can increase how older people cope by making them feel good about themselves. Clothes can enhance their self-image, self-esteem, satisfy their need for social acceptance and improve their appearance.
