I read a book titled Parkview Pickle, which is an example of realistic fiction. This book is one in the series. I chose this book because I had read some other stories by the same author and I really enjoyed them. I also liked this book because it gives different information about horses and how those creatures communicate with humans. This story is about horses and humans living with them. The setting is the stable, som I read a book titled Parkview Pickle, which is an example of realistic fiction. Tilly is one of the main characters, a girl that goes to the stable to ride horses and spend time with them. Another central character is Angela, who owns the stable. Also there is another girl who plays an important role in the story. When the horse comes to live in the stable, Parkview Pickle: The Naughty Show Pony sees that there is something wrong with it. Parkview doesn't really want to listen and doesn't want to come close to the girl or her mother. Tilly tries to help the girl because the relationship between the girl and the horse is not so great, the horse prefers Tilly. This story made me feel interested and wanting to read it because I couldn't wait to find out what will happen next. The plot is very believable because these things happen in real life too. The characters seemed real. My favorite character is Tilly because she is very nice, and she has a good attitude to horses and people. The story made me think about how horses may not like people but if the person changes, they can also get friendlier and nicer. I learnt that you should never think negatively about things that you may not be able to do. My favorite part of the book was when Tilly Parkview Pickle: The Naughty Show Pony a riding lesson with the girl and Parkview, it was fun. I really liked the book because the plot was easy to follow and enjoyable. I would recommend this book to my friends from the stable that I go to because it is about horses and how people interact with them in different ways. I think this book is suitable for ages 9 to 14 or higher. She began receiving help from sports psychologist Nicky Heath. In addition, Funnell won the individual bronze medal at Athens. As ofshe remains the only rider to have won the Grand Slam. She then went to Punchestown in Ireland to defend the individual European title that she had won in andwinning a bronze medal with the inexperienced Walk On Star and helping the British team to win their fifth successive team title. She also finished the year as the number one ranked rider in the world. In total Funnell has won the Badminton Horse Trials three times:and She has won both the Blenheim venue and Windsor Horse Trials four times as well, the only rider yet to do so. After winning Badminton inFunnell did not win an international event for five years. With Ensign, she finished ninth at the Europeans. A fall at Badminton in put paid to them being picked. They went on to finish 5th as an individual at the World Equestrian Games. This pairing were picked for the World Equestrian Games but injury unfortunately ruled them out. Her individual placement was 26th. Ubisoft has released a number of horse Parkview Pickle: The Naughty Show Pony starring Pippa Funnell. The series has now been extended to eighteen titles in all. The first four titles have also been recorded as unabridged audiobooks, read by sports presenter Clare Balding. The central character, Tilly Redbrow, is an adopted child, who is passionate about everything to do with horses and ponies. As well as the fictional story, Parkview Pickle: The Naughty Show Pony title also contains a tips section with expert advice from Funnell on all aspects of horses and ponies.

    Evaluating the experience of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the career histories of elite equestrian athletes By Donna de Haan A Doctoral Thesis Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy of Loughborough University March 2015 © D. de Haan 2015 ABSTRACT Equestrian sport has been present on the Modern Olympic programme since 1900 with Para-Equestrian Dressage making its debut at the 1996 Paralympic Games. Due to the combined governance of Olympic and Paralympic versions of the sport, the mixed gender of competition and the potential age range of competitors, equestrian sport provides an opportunity through which to understand a unique context of athlete experience. This thesis has sought to identify and evaluate athlete experience within the context of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and to place this experience within the wider career histories of members of the British Equestrian Team. This study utilised a combination of a systematic literature review methodology and ethnographic data collection and analysis with a critical realist approach, creating a framework that values interpretive insights into how the subjects perceive and construct their world whilst at the same time considering ways in which the literature and individual subjects identify, comment on, and frame the reality of the world of equestrian sport. This study has resulted in the emergence of six themes pertaining to experiencing the games; equestrian sporting culture, identity, values, challenges, performance support and success. Results show many similarities and shared experiences for both the Olympic and Paralympic equestrian athletes. The differences regarding the lived experience for these athletes are predominantly associated with the development of the sport, the relative short Paralympic history of equestrian sport in comparison to the Olympic disciplines, and the place of the Games in the context of the riders’ career histories.

Hodgins School of Psychology, Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, NSW 2678, Australia; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] Simple Summary: Forming relationships with horses is commonly understood as an important part of amateur and elite equestrian sports. Horse-human relationships have historically been romanticized and the success of sporting horse-human combinations has been attributed to a close relationship between horse and rider. Elite equestrian sports differ from amateur equestrian sports, especially where an elite rider earns their primary income from riding and competing horses, and third-party sponsors and owners are financially invested in a horse-rider combination. In this study, 36 elite equestrian athletes were interviewed about their interspecies relationships. Results indicated that a strong horse-rider relationship could, in some instances, inhibit a rider’s ability to compete successfully and engage in a commercialized sporting context, due to tensions between an instrumental approach to animals and meaningful horse-rider interaction. Results also suggested that horse-rider relationships may be peripheral to performance outcomes, or conversely, essential to performance success. The relationship between sporting outcomes and the horse-rider relationship in an elite setting is clearly complex and multifaceted. An increase in transient, instrumental horse-rider relationships may be resulting in a shift towards a commercial, detached model of relating to horses, raising ethical questions around the professionalization of equestrianism and the management of Citation: Hogg, R.C.; Hodgins, G.A. competition horses.
