    Press Release, 13 May 2019 German Olympic Squad to compete at Luhmühlen Some of the world’s best eventing riders are going to strut their stuff at the Longines Luhmühlen Horse Trials in June. Including Germany, eighteen nations have entered the Longines CCI5*-L and the CCI4*-S Meßmer Trophy. As announced by German Chef d’Equipe Hans Melzer, the entire Olympic squad has sent their entries: Sandra Auffarth, Andreas Dibowski, Michael Jung, Ingrid Klimke, Julia Krajewski, Jörg Kurbel, Andreas Ostholt, Kai Rüder and Josefa Sommer. Australian Sam Griffith, who is based in Great Britain, will ride his Badminton winner Paulank Brockagh. Andrew Hoy has entered Vassily de Lassos, with whom he ranked fourth at the World Championships in Tryon. Great Britain are sending Kristina Cook who has won team silver at the Olympic Games in London and individual bronze in Hong Kong, Sarah Bullimore who is planning to ride the experienced Reve du Rouet, with whom she was highly successful at Pau and Burghley. Pietro Roman with Barraduff are a very experienced combination from Italy. Three Japanese riders have also sent their entries. Luhmühlen winner Tim Price and eventing legend Mark Todd are going to represent New Zealand. The Swedish riders surely have their sights on this year's European Championships in Luhmühlen after the team silver medal at the last European Championships in Strzegom.     Gold Cup Preview GOLD CUP PREVIEW Plenty of comparisons have already been made between Arkle and Best Mate, and they’re bound to become even more popular should the best staying chaser of the present day complete a hat-trick of Cheltenham Gold Cup victories in mid-March. Just for the record, the following paragraph from Chasers & Hurdlers 2002/3 may help to put into perspective just how good Arkle really was:- ‘In the 1965/6 season, Arkle ran four times before his third Cheltenham Gold Cup victory, starting off with a twenty-length win under 12-7 in the Gallaher Gold Cup at Sandown in November, setting a time record which still stands for the course and distance. Later that month, Arkle took his second successive Hennessy under 12-7, winning by fifteen lengths from Freddie who received 32 lb. Arkle made it three wins from three starts with victory by a distance in the King George VI Chase before again winning the Leopardstown Chase on his way to Cheltenham. Arkle conceded 42 lb to the second and third at Leopardstown; runner-up Height o’ Fashion, who went down by a neck, did most of her racing in Ireland but was worth a Timeform rating of 168+ whilst third-placed Splash, beaten a further fifteen lengths, had won the previous year’s Irish Grand National and earnt a Timeform rating of 157. Arkle gave them a 43 lb and 55 lb beating respectively and was 10/1-on when making it five out of five for the season when taking Best Mate jumps the second last in splendid isolation twelve month ago 1 Cheltenham Festival Issue the Gold Cup in a canter.

Introduction Seeds of Awareness This book is inspired by an undergraduate course called “Music, Art, and Theology,” one of the most popular classes I teach and probably the course I’ve most enjoyed teaching. The reasons for this may be as straightforward as they are worthy of lament. In an era when study of the arts has become a practical afterthought, a “luxury” squeezed out of tight education budgets and shrinking liberal arts curricula, people intuitively yearn for spaces where they can explore together the landscape of the human heart opened up by music and, more generally, the arts. All kinds of people are attracted to the arts, but I have found that young adults especially, seeking something deeper and more worthy of their questions than what they find in highly quantitative and STEM-oriented curricula, are drawn into the horizon of the ineffable where the arts take us. Across some twenty-five years in the classroom, over and over again it has been my experience that young people of diverse religious, racial, and economic backgrounds, when given the opportunity, are eager to plumb the wellsprings of spirit where art commingles with the divine-human drama of faith. From my childhood to the present day, my own spirituality1 or way of being in the world has been profoundly shaped by music, not least its capacity to carry me beyond myself and into communion with the mysterious, transcendent dimension of reality.
