  • Turnbull Hockey Pool For
Turnbull Hockey Pool for Each year, Turnbull students participate in several fundraising initiatives, which we promote as a way to develop a sense of community, leadership and social responsibility within the students. Last year's grade 7 and 8 students put forth a great deal of effort campaigning friends and family members to join Turnbull's annual NHL hockey pool, raising a total of $1750 for a charity of their choice (the United Way). This year's group has decided to run the hockey pool for the benefit of Help Lesotho, an international development organization working in the AIDS-ravaged country of Lesotho in southern Africa. From www.helplesotho.org "Help Lesotho’s programs foster hope and motivation in those who are most in need: orphans, vulnerable children, at-risk youth and grandmothers. Our work targets root causes and community priorities, including literacy, youth leadership training, school twinning, child sponsorship and gender programming. Help Lesotho is an effective, sustainable organization that is working at the grass-roots level to support the next generation of leaders in Lesotho." Your participation in this year's NHL hockey pool is very much appreciated. We believe it will provide students and their friends and families an opportunity to have fun together while giving back to their community by raising awareness and funds for a great cause. Prizes: > Grand Prize awarded to contestant whose team accumulates the most points over the regular NHL season = 10" Samsung Galaxy Tablet > Monthly Prizes awarded to the contestants whose teams accumulate the most points over each designated period (see website) = Two Movie Passes How it Works: > Everyone in the community is welcome to join in on the fun.

  • Versatile Fox Sports Broadcaster Kenny Albert Continues to Pair with Biggest Names in Sports
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Erik Arneson, FOX Sports Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 [email protected] VERSATILE FOX SPORTS BROADCASTER KENNY ALBERT CONTINUES TO PAIR WITH BIGGEST NAMES IN SPORTS Boothmates like Namath, Ewing, Palmer, Leonard ‘Enhance Broadcasts … Make My Job a Lot More Fun’ Teams with Former Cowboy and Longtime Broadcast Partner Daryl ‘Moose’ Johnston and Sideline Reporter Laura Okmin for FOX NFL in 2016 With an ever-growing roster of nearly 250 teammates (complete list below) that includes iconic names like Joe Namath, Patrick Ewing, Jim Palmer, Jeremy Roenick and “Sugar Ray” Leonard, versatile FOX Sports play-by-play announcer Kenny Albert -- the only announcer currently doing play-by-play for all four major U.S. sports (NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL) -- certainly knows the importance of preparation and chemistry. “The most important aspects of my job are definitely research and preparation,” said Albert, a second-generation broadcaster whose long-running career behind the sports microphone started in high school, and as an undergraduate at New York University in the late 1980s, he called NYU basketball games. “When the NFL season begins, it's similar to what coaches go through. If I'm not sleeping, eating or spending time with my family, I'm preparing for that Sunday's game. “And when I first work with a particular analyst, researching their career is definitely a big part of it,” Albert added. “With (Daryl Johnston) ‘Moose,’ for example, there are various anecdotes from his years with the Dallas Cowboys that pertain to our games. When I work local Knicks telecasts with Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier on MSG, a percentage of our viewers were avid fans of Clyde during the Knicks’ championship runs in 1970 and 1973, so we weave some of those stories into the broadcasts.” As the 2016 NFL season gets underway, Albert once again teams with longtime broadcast partner Johnston, with whom he has paired for 10 seasons, sideline reporter Laura Okmin and producer Barry Landis.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 24, 2021 LIGHTNING, ISLANDERS VIE FOR STANLEY CUP FINAL BERTH IN GAME 7 SHOWDOWN FRIDAY NEW YORK (June 24, 2021) -- The Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders will decide their Stanley Cup Semifinals series Friday night when they take to the ice at AMALIE Arena in Tampa for a winner-take-all Game 7 (8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, SN, TVAS). The teams will be vying for a berth in the Stanley Cup Final against the winner of the other Semifinals series between the Vegas Golden Knights and Montreal Canadiens. The Lightning will be skating in their ninth Game 7 in franchise history (5-3) and for the sixth time in the final-four round (2-3). Only three other clubs – all from the Original Six – have played as many such contests in the Semifinals: the Boston Bruins (8 GP; 4-4), Detroit Red Wings (6 GP; 5-1) and Chicago Blackhawks (6 GP; 3-3). Lightning defenseman Ryan McDonagh has made a team-high eight career appearances in a Game 7 (6-2), one of 10 active players with at least six career Game 7 wins. McDonagh is attempting to join two active NHL players with seven-or-more such wins: Carl Hagelin (8-2) and Anton Stralman (7-2). Other players on the Lightning roster with at least five previous Game 7s are defenseman Victor Hedman (3-3) and forwards Steven Stamkos (3-3) and Pat Maroon (2-3). The Islanders, who blanked the Philadelphia Flyers 4-0 in Game 7 in the Second Round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, are competing in a Game 7 in consecutive seasons for the first time in franchise history.
