  • Review - DVD - Sting Jamaica 2003
Review - DVD - Sting Jamaica 2003 http://www.reggae-vibes.com/rev_dvd/sting2003.htm Title Sting Jamaica 2003 (2 DVD) Artist Various Date January 24 - 2009 Label Charly Films/MVD Visual Format DVD - Region Free Languages English Subtitles None Length 360 minutes (approx.) Producer/Director Gunther Kutsch & Ira Bruggmann - Jean Luc Young Here's a nice release that we've enjoyed watching. Since it started back in 1984, Jamaica's Sting Festival, "The Greatest One-Night Reggae Show on Earth", has established itself as the Island's premier one-night reggae show. Held each year in Portmore, Sting is renowned as being a showcase for the best reggae acts, primarily dancehall, which Jamaica has to offer. Its performers invariably rise to the occasion and it has witnessed many memorable performances over the years. This 2-disc DVD set recorded live in Portmore, St. Catherine, Jamaica on December 27, 2003 features vital dancehall acts like Elephant Man, Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel, Assassin, Bling Dawg and Wayne Marshall. There's also a good part filled with reggae vocalists such as Junior Kelly, Sanchez, Anthony B and the German reggae vocalist Gentleman. Rumor has it that the most bottles, clashes and gunshots "rained" at Sting 2003! Fact is that the concert was brought to a dramatic and premature end following an on-stage brawl between the often-controversial 1 of 3 3/30/2009 3:18 PM Review - DVD - Sting Jamaica 2003 http://www.reggae-vibes.com/rev_dvd/sting2003.htm Ninjaman and Vybz Kartel, who subsequently both made up. But there are also lots of memorable moments (musically wise!).

Yet, though numerous academics study Rastafari, a certain lacuna exists in contemporary scholarship in regards to the movement’s scriptural basis. By interrogating Rastafari’s recovery of the Hebrew Bible from colonial powers and Rastas’ adoption of an Israelite identity, this dissertation illuminates the biblical foundation of Rastafari ethics and symbolic registry. An analysis of the body of scholarship on Rastafari, as well as of the reggae canon, reveals

ANANSI The Beginning ANANSI The Beginning By nan-c FOLLOW nan-c It was neither famine nor draught that spread throughout the land but something that could not be controlled by man or his imagination. The traps were set not to capture animals but to capture people. Anansi had been captured and could not get away, no matter how hard he tried. Anansi longed for his yams, a shaded place and his soft bed as he stumbled with the wooden devices that he associated with cattle and not with men connected at both his hands and feet. Strange men pushed he and the others. Men yelled words not understood, men that were not from his tribe, not from his village. He could not figure out why these men attacked his people. They had no treasures, no borderlands of interest, no rich soil to plant in. Why had these men come to take them away? The walk was long, sometimes they walked in shaded areas but most of the journey was done directly beneath the hot sun.

International media and the millions of eyes around the world don't care if it's just that one bad apple. We are all being judged by the actions of a handful of individuals, whether it's the politician trying to hide his/her indiscretions, to the hustler that harasses the visitors to our shores.
