How to use the Atlas The Atlas has two map sections The Main Section shows the location of Russia’s intact forest landscapes. The Thematic Section shows their tree species composition in two different ways. The legend is placed at the beginning of each set of maps. If you are looking for an area near a town or village Go to the Index on page 153 and find the alphabetical list of settlements by English name. The Cyrillic name is also given along with the map page number and coordinates (latitude and longitude) where it can be found. Capitals of regions and districts (raiony) are listed along with many other settlements, but only in the vicinity of intact forest landscapes. The reader should not expect to see a city like Moscow listed. Villages that are insufficiently known or very small are not listed and appear on the map only as nameless dots. If you are looking for an administrative region Go to the Index on page 185 and find the list of administrative regions. The numbers refer to the map on the inside back cover. The first annotated checklist of the long-horned Orthoptera (Ensi- fera) of Tuva and adjacent territories is presented. This list is based on numerous published and unpublished data. A total of 22 species belonging to 2 families, na- mely Tettigoniidae and Gryllidae, are known as occurring in Tuva. Six species are recorded from the region for the first time, namely Tettigonia cantans (Fuessly), Platycleis albopunctata (Goeze), Platycleis affinis Fieber (also new for the Asian part of Russia), Roeseliana fedtschenkoi (Saussure), Poecilimon intermedius (Fie- ber), Acheta domesticus (Linnaeus) (synanthrope). Montana tomini (Pylnov) is also mentioned for the southern part of Krasnoyarsk Region for the first time. Tuva's Ethnocultural Landscapes in Changing

The paper is devoted to ethno-cultural landscapes of the Republic of Tuva. Ethnocultural landscapes (ECLs) are specific socio-environmental systems that developed as a result of the interaction of ethnic groups with their natural and social environments and are in a constant process of transformation. An attempt is made to identify the mechanisms of the formation, functioning and dynamics of ethnocultural landscapes in the specific conditions of the intracontinental cross-border mountain region, as well as to establish the main factors-catalysts of their modern changes. For the first time an attempt is made to delimit and map the ethnocultural landscapes of Tuva. For this, literary sources, statistical data and thematic maps of different times are analyzed using geoinformation methods. The results of 2014-2018 field studies are also used, during which interviews with representatives of different ethno-territorial, gender, age and social groups were taken. It is revealed that the key factors of Tuva’s ethnocultural landscape genesis are the natural isolation of its territory; the features of its landscape structure; the role of government; population migrations from other regions and the cultural diffusion provoked by them. 13 ethnocultural landscapes are identified at the regional level. Their modern transformation is determined by the shift of climatic cycles, aridisation, globalisation of sociocultural processes, changes in economic specialisation and ethno- psychological stereotypes. -

A total of 30 species belonging to the family Acrididae (the tribe Gomphocerini from the subfamily Gomphocerinae, and the subfamily Locustinae = Oedipodinae), are known as occurring in Tuva. Two taxa are recorded from the region for the first time, namely Chorthippus dorsatus orientalis Bey-Bienko and Sphingonotus nebulosus (Fischer de Waldheim). At least 6 species and a subspecies are known from the adjacent areas and listed as probably occurring in the region. For Tozhu reindeer herder-hunters, however, such a perspective ignores the important roles of dogs and horses. These species are equally vital and interdependent partners of daily life in the mountainous areas of Tuva where Tozhu people live. Each animal comes with specific characteristics, challenges and benefits that necessitate a multispecies perspective—the reindeer-dog-horse triad of Tozhu hunting and reindeer herding economies. This research completes the picture of how taiga-dwelling Tozhu and the three important animal species co-exist together. It seeks to portray: 1) how the Tozhu reindeer herder hunters interrelate the role of these animals in hunting and reindeer herding; 2) how their intense crossbreeding of dogs and horses has in turn influenced human-animal relationships; and 3) how humans and animals cooperate with each other to achieve shared goals. An overview of anthropological studies of human-animal relations is presented in Chapter 1 and has revealed that humans and their animals are bound in mutual relations in which humans and animals have reciprocally influenced each other. -

Seven species are recorded from the region for the first time, namely Tetrix similans (Bey-Bienko), Zubovskya koeppeni (Zubovsky), Podismopsis poppiusi (Miram), P. jacuta Miram, Stenobothrus nigromaculatus (Herrich-Schäfer), S. carbonarius (Eversmann), and Omocestus petraeus (Brisout de Barneville). Zubovskya mongolica Storozhenko, comb. resurr. is mentioned for the southern part of the Republic of Khakassia for the first time.
