To recognise the importance of this milestone, the first ever Global Alumni Reunion was held and AIMS launched a book on its history titled AIMS: the first decade. Other notable achievements for the year included over 100 students graduating, planning for a future centre in Cameroon, online courses and the launch of the AIMS Industry Initiative.     NEW AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE AFRICAN INSTITUTE FOR MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES AND AARMS TO ENHANCE TRAINING AND RESEARCH AT NETWORK OF CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE Toronto, Canada- 21 January 2016- The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences- Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI) announced a partnership with the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS), marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership will support academic training and research at AIMS as faculty from AARMS institutions are allocated teaching positions across the network of centres of excellence to deliver three-week courses within the AIMS one-year Structured Master’s Program. “All ten universities in the Atlantic Provinces of Canada make up the membership base of AARMS,” said Dr Jeanette Janssen, Director of AARMS. “This partnership is a great opportunity not only for faculty from these universities to expand their academic exposure beyond the borders of Canada, but also for them to teach, work and collaborate with some of Africa’s brightest minds in mathematical sciences, who form the backbone of AIMS’ cohort of students.” In addition to the teaching opportunities afforded to AARMS faculty through this partnership, AARMS will reserve up to five spots annually in its flagship summer school program for AIMS students and graduates, and will contribute up to CAD$10,000 annually towards the students expenses. “AIMS is enabling Africa’s youth to shape the continent and the world’s future through science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and training Africa’s next generation of leaders,” said Thierry Zomahoun, President and CEO of AIMS.
