Veronica Gambara Undici lettere inedite Edited by Luigi Amaduzzi Guastalla: R. Pecorini [p. [5]] Cenni biografici di Veronica Gambara (1) Tre donne vennero in maggior fama di letterate nel secolo XVI; Vittoria Colonna, Gaspara Stampa, e Veronica Gambara. Moltissime altre coltivarono le lettere in quel tempo; di esse alacremente oggi si studia richiamare la memoria onorevole e ridonarla al culto dei moderni. Dissi molte altre, ma le tre nominate tennero il primato su tutte. La data della loro nascita varia di pochi anni, quella della morte quasi coincide. La Gambara nacque il 30 Novembre 1485, nel novanta nascerà la Colonna, trentaquattro anni dopo, la Stampa. Nel 1550 morì la Gambara, tre anni dopo, la Colonna; nel cinquantaquattro si spense la Stampa. Erano adunque tre stelle che risplende. vano ad un tempo nel cielo letterario d'Italia. Un luogo assai popolato del territorio bresciano, detto Prato Alboino, che fu feudo della nobilissima Famiglia Gambara, diede i natali alla nostra Veronica. Suoi genitori furono il Conte Gianfrancesco Gambara e Alda Pia da Carpi, personaggi ragguardevolissimi, siccome le istorie mostrano. Veronica ebbe quattro fratelli e due sorelle; Camillo, Uberto, Brunoro, Ippolito, Violante ed Isotta, tutti non meno per azioni che per letteratura illustri. Aveva essa sortito da natura un ingegno assai vivace, penetrante, e molta inclinazione per le lettere, alle quali si diè fin [p. 6] da' più teneri anni. Chi fosse suo maestro negli studi non è chiaro; taluni affermano il Bembo, col quale fu in domestichezza, ma molti dubbî sorgono leggendo alcuni passi delle poesie di lui. Quello che più manifesto appare, si è che della guida e del patrocinio del Veneziano molto profittevolmente si valse la Gambara, come attesta il fatto che a lui per primo mandava ogni suo poetico componimento ed attenevasi al suo giudizio, come a quello che autorevole stimava. -

The Poetry of Parmigianino's “Schiava Turca”
Iconic Painting is Newly Interpreted and Comes to the U.S. for the First Time THE POETRY OF PARMIGIANINO’S “SCHIAVA TURCA” The Frick Collection, New York May 13 through July 20, 2014 Legion of Honor, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco July 26 through October 5, 2014 Francesco Mazzola (1503–1540), called Parmigianino after Parma, the Northern Italian city of his birth, was one of the most prolific and celebrated artists of the sixteenth century. Known as “Raphael reborn,” he mastered the arts of painting, drawing, and printmaking and was renowned for his portraits. Today his exquisite portrait of an unknown woman called the Schiava Turca (Turkish Slave) is an icon of Parma. The painting, which has rarely been seen outside its home institution, the Galleria Nazionale di Parma, travels to the United States for the first time for its presentation at The Frick Collection (and subsequently at the Legion of Honor, part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco). The showing at the Frick marks the museum’s third collaboration with the Foundation for Italian Art & Culture (FIAC), a series of loans focused on the female portrait in the Renaissance. The collaboration previously featured Raphael’s La Fornarina (Rome, Parmigianino, Schiava Turca, c. 1531–34, oil on panel, Galleria Nazionale di Parma, photo: Scala/Art Resource, NY Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica, Palazzo Barberini) and Parmigianino’s Antea (Naples, Museo di Capodimonte). The Poetry of Parmigianino’s “Schiava Turca” will be accompanied by a catalogue and numerous public programs. Veronica Gambara Veronica Gambara, assai nota come poetessa tanto da essere accostata a figure quali Gaspara Stampa e Vittoria Colonna, e lodata, ancor prima di conoscerla personalmente, da Pietro Bembo – il quale conclude uno dei suoi sonetti affermando “e la voce udirò, che Brescia onora”- in realtà si caratterizza per uno sfaccettato profilo nel quale coesistono e si integrano la letterata, l’accorta politica e reggente del feudo del marito, la lucida intellettuale profonda conoscitrice del suo tempo e l’instancabile animatrice di cenacoli culturali. La sua cifra essenziale è quella di “poetessa reggente”, come emerge anche dalla sua corrispondenza con Pietro Bembo, che ci presenta l’immagine di una donna intenta a comporre versi e, allo stesso tempo, “politicamente impegnata, sempre attenta a cogliere l’occasione per creare una rete di protezione per la famiglia e il feudo”. 1. Foto di Claudia Speziali Veronica nasce nel vecchio castello, poi distrutto nel XVIII secolo, di Pratalboino (oggi Pralboino) la notte tra il 29 e il 30 novembre 1485, figlia di Alda dei Pio di Carpi e di Gianfrancesco Gambara, titolare del feudo. La famiglia Gambara, nobile e assai colta, fa crescere figli e figlie in un ambiente nutrito di cultura e profonda ammirazione per i classici e l’antichità. Veronica riceve un’ottima educazione umanistica che comprende lo studio della filosofia, della teologia e del latino. Per le famiglie nobili vige la consuetudine di cimentarsi con la poesia e la conversazione letteraria e Veronica comincia quindi a scrivere versi già nell’adolescenza, prendendo a modello la lirica petrarchesca e mostrando un notevole talento e un accento personale, una voce poetica unica e privata che si discosta fin dall’inizio dalle tante imitazioni di maniera. -
