Topic 5. The nature of jiva and isvara. 1. Both are reflections. The reflection of consciousness in maya which is indescribable as real or unreal is Isvara. The reflection of consciousness in the infinite number of limited parts of maya, which have avarana and vikshepasakti and which are known as avidya is jiva. The part of maya with both avarana and vikshepa sakti is avidya. This is the view of Prakatarthakara. 2. Mulaprakriti is maya when it is predominantly pure sattva not overcome by rajas and tamas and it is avidya when it is impure sattva subordinated by rajas and tamas. The reflection in maya is Isvara and the reflection in avidya is jiva. This is the view of Swami Vidyaranya in Tattvaviveka, chapter 1 of Panchadasi. 3. Mulaprakriti itself with vikshepasakti being predominant is maya and is the upadhi of Isvara. With avarana sakti being predominent, mulaprakriti is avidya and it is the upadhi of jiva. Because of this, jiva has the experience of being ignorant, but not Isvara. This is the view of some. 4. Samkshepasariraka view—The reflection of consciousness in avidya is Isvara and the reflection in the mind is jiva. In the above views in which Isvara and jiva are reflections, the bimba (prototype) is pure consciousness (Brahman ) which is attained by the liberated. 5. Chitradipa view: Giving up the threefold aspect of Brahman as pure consciousness, Isvara, and jiva, a fourfold aspect is postulated. The reflection in ajnana tinged with the vasanas in the minds of all living beings, which is dependent on Brahman is Isvara. -

Journal of Ethnology and Folkloristics 10 (1): 3–24 DOI: 10.1515/jef-2016-0001 SEARCHING FOR THE HIDDEN GOD: THE INTIMACY OF SOUND AND LISTENING AMONG KRISHNA DEVOTEES IN MAYAPUR MARJE ERMEL Lecturer and PhD candidate Cultural Theory / Social and Cultural Anthropology Tallinn University, School of Humanities Uus-Sadama 5, Tallinn 10120 e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT This article looks at how the Krishna devotees in Mayapur, West Bengal, learn how to chant and listen to the sound of the holy name properly. They suggest that if one is ‘pure’ enough and knows how to listen one experiences the syneasthetic level of sound called pashyanti. At this level, one can reach beyond the duality of the ‘hidden and manifested’ worlds, the external and internal levels of sound; and one can ultimately see God face to face. This is also considered a level at which one can realise that the sound of God’s name and God himself are the same. I will focus on how the devotees learn to create this sense of intimacy with God through the sound of his holy name, and argue that listening is not merely a process connected to our auditory sense but rather a creative and engaging activity, a skill that one can develop. Can anyone spare me a crumb of faith, a drop of purification, steadiness, or taste, or even a little love for Krishna? (Kancana-Valli Devi Dasi) In her book Crying for Krishna, Genevieve Brewster (2013: 32), with the initiated name Kancana-Valli Devi Dasi, captures the nature of the long journey of learning how to hear and chant the holy names of the Lord. -

Muktinath Temple "The holiest of holy Vishnu temple in Mustang District of Nepal" Muktinath Temple (Chumig Gyatsa) District: Mustang Country: Nepal Altitude: 3710 meter Distance: 406 km from Kathmandu Nearest Airport: Jomsom 200 km from Pokhara Name in Hindu: Mukti Kshetra Name in Buddhist: Chumig Gyatsa Divya Desam (premium 106th Shakti Peethams 51st temples) God Worshipped Vishnu Introduction: Muktinath Temple (Chumig Gyatsa) is symbol of the religious symbiosis between both Hindus and Buddhists. Hindu believes that lord Vishnu got salvation from curse of Brinda (wife of Jalandhar) here. Therefore he is worshipped as Muktinath (Lit. the lord of salvation). The holy shrine, which is said to have risen on its own, is one of eight such shrines (the others include Srirangam, Sri Mushnam, Tirupati, Naimisaranyam, Thottadri, Pushkaram and Badrinath). This Pagoda Style Muktinath Temple is also one of 108 Vaishnava shrines. Here in the early 19th century the Hindus consecrated a Vishnu temple and named is Muktinath - Lord of Liberation. Against a backdrop of incredible starkness you can sit and stare to the south the snow covered Annapurna range, or to the north the Tibetan plateau Importances: According to Hindu Myth it is belief that this world is "MAYA" (an illusion) of life cycle of birth and rebirth. Everybody seek to get rid of this cycle and get nirvana. A visit to Muktinath will help to achieve this goal. There are 108 waterspouts in the back yard of this temple called as Muktidhara where froozen water are continuously flowing from the bull head and two Kunda (ponds in front of the temple). -
Dvaita Vs. Advaita
> Subject: dvaita vs advaita > I have a very basic question to this very learned group. could someone please > tell us what exactly does dvaita and advaitha mean. kanaka One of the central questions concerning Vedanta philosophers is the relationship of the individual self to the Absolute or Supreme Self. The sole purpose for this question is to determine the nature of contemplative meditation and to determine whether moksha, the state of release, is something worth seeking. The Dvaita school, inaugurated by Madhvacharya (Ananda Tirtha), argues that there is an inherent and absolute five-fold difference in Reality -- between one soul and another, between the soul and God, between God and matter, between the soul and matter, and between matter and matter. These differences are not only individuations, but also inherent qualitative differences, i.e., in its essentially pure state, one individual self is _not_ equal to another in status, but only in genus. Therefore, there are inherently female jIvas, inherently male jIvas, brahmin jIvas, non-brahmin jIvas, and this differentiation exists even in liberation. Consequently, any sort of unity, whether it be mystical or ontological, between the individual self and God is impossible in Dvaita. Hence the term ``Dvaita'' or ``dualism''. Liberation consists of experiencing one's essential nature in parama padam as a reflection of God's glory. Such liberation is achieved through bhakti or loving devotion. The Advaita school, represented in its classical and most powerful form by Sankaracharya, argues that only the Absolute Self exists, _and_ all else is false. The universe and our existence as individuals is not _unreal_, mind you, but a false imposition on a real substrate, the non-dual, undifferentiated principle of consciousness. -

K Lecturer Department of Water Resource and Irrigation Engineering University of Jijgiga, Ethiopia Abstract: Jijiga is a city in eastern region of Ethiopia country and the Jijiga is capital of Somali Region (Ethiopia). Located in the Jijiga Zone approximately 80 km (50 miles) east of Harar and 60 km (37 miles) west of the border with Somalia, this city has an elevation of 1,609 meters above the sea level. The population of this city was 185000 in the year 2015. The elevation of this city is 1609m from sea level. The natural water source for jijiga is limited, most of the time people getting limited quantity of water. The main source of this city is a small pond and one spring. The rainy season also not that much. The municipality supplying water to every house based upon intermittent system, the time limit is morning only (8am to 9am). The municipality water contains discernible brackish. The public using this water for drinking and cooking purpose, it wills danger for human health. My focus is planning to remove discernible brackish by distinct method. My research results indicate the removal of discernible brackish from drinking water by simple charcoal filtration method for low cost. “My Father's Yoga” As A
My Father’s Yoga (among them are Yvonne Millerand and Gerard Blitz). By T.K.V. Desikachar I feel a little uneasy about the term yogin and I would like to say a few things about it before talking about Krishnamacharya. This word is almost part of the English language; most of the time, when somebody says: “I am a yogin”, it is almost as if he has said “I am a Hindu”. And the only requirement to become a yogin, is to add it to your name. That is the first problem.As for the second problem: Who am I to decide whether Krishnamacharya is a yogin or a bhogi (sensualist)? We must remember that a minor is incapable of telling whether a gem is precious or not, and, as far as I am concerned, I am only a minor. The word yogin, in the Bhagavad Gita has two meanings. The first meaning refers to the person who is preparing to start what we call the yoga Shri Krishnamacharya, the oldest and arguably sadhana. He still has a lot of problems but he most famous among the great yogis still alive, persists in his desire to do something about lives in Madras and next year will be 100 them. The second meaning refers to the years old. person who is above any worry, who shuns any activity because he is totally immersed in Yoga, and means that he becomes divine or that he is at one with the divine. Then, Patanjali goes much further when he says that yogin is one who has achieved the highest state of vairagya. -
