Castlerigg Stone Circle Visitor Survey Volunteer Why does English Heritage Trust need my support? Castlerigg is perhaps the most atmospheric and dramatically sited of all British stone circles, with panoramic views and the mountains of Helvellyn and High Seat as a backdrop. It is also among the earliest British circles, raised in about 3000 BC during the Neolithic period. Castlerigg is one of 90 free to enter English Heritage sites spread across the North. We want our visitors to have a unique experience at our sites and we value their feedback. As a friendly, organised individual, you help us to gather visitors’ general perceptions of Castlerigg Stone Circle. The data you collect could help us in the future in creating new projects or developing new historical interpretation. How much time will I be expected to give? This is a flexible role with dates available between April - October. Where will I be based? Castlerigg Stone Circle, Castle Lane, Underskiddaw, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 4RN. What will I be doing? Using a short printed survey, you will ask those visitors who wish to participate, a series of straightforward questions. You will also conduct a simple head count of visitors who arrive at the site whilst you are there. You will then enter the data into an online web survey. What skills, qualities and experience do I need? We are looking for individuals who feel comfortable interacting with visitors and working as part of a very small team. You will have an interest in research, particularly around the historic environment. You may be required to lone work on site and independently input data from home. For this reason we would like you to be confident with IT and have access to the internet. What support and training will I receive? You will receive: An English Heritage volunteer induction and handbook A site introduction and role specific induction Health and Safety training; this will include lone working training and any other materials and resources as identified by your Volunteer Manager What will English Heritage Trust expect from me? To be the friendly face of English Heritage To be reliable in attendance and dependable Help us maintain the highest standards of presentation at our sites and properties To wear English Heritage volunteer uniform where provided Help us protect our properties and collections by understanding and following our security and safety procedures Maintain good working relationships with staff, other volunteers and members of the public Castlerigg Stone Circle Visitor Survey Volunteer V1 November 2019 Castlerigg Stone Circle Visitor Survey Volunteer Attend appropriate training and learn about the work of English Heritage. Observe organisational policy and procedures Safeguard confidential information about English Heritage and let us know about anything relating to your role or the work of English Heritage that you think might be controversial Any documentary or other material (including any copyright applying thereto) you are provided with or which is created by you in respect of your volunteering will be the property and copyright of English Heritage (unless otherwise agreed in writing) What can I expect from English Heritage Trust? A welcoming and enjoyable experience To be treated fairly and with respect Recognition and appreciation for your contribution A full induction and training programme with on-going support A volunteer pass allowing free entry to English Heritage properties is available on completion of 60 hours and four months of volunteering Reimbursement of reasonable travel costs between home and volunteering location within agreed limits A certificate for your personal profile to demonstrate work carried out for English Heritage is available on request to show future employers or further education providers You will be covered by English Heritage’s own indemnity arrangements in respect of all liabilities that may result from your appointment as a volunteer You will be given a site induction and will be briefed on our lone working procedures Castlerigg Stone Circle Visitor Survey Volunteer V1 November 2019 .
