Views Before That August Body and the Parliament Which Was Back of It, in Hopes That He Might Inñuence the Final Form of the Church Discipline
1936.] Report of the Librarian 153 REPORT OF THE LIBRARIAN THE USE OF THE LIBRARY TN accepting membership in the American Anti- -•• quarian Society in 1915, the Right Honorable Sir George Otto Trevelyan, distinguished historian of the American Revolution, said: "Recognition from such a body as the American Antiquarian Society has for me a value of a rare character. I shall never see Worcester or enter the Library in which henceforth I should have the privilege of reading but I accept the position of membership with gratitude and pleasure." Many other English and Continental scholars have been more fortunate than Sir George and have spent happy and profitable hours within these walls. This summer as never before our reading room has, at times, been thronged with historical students occupying every available seat. The follower of the curious hobby of license plate hunting would have been richly re- warded by an examination of the cars parked about our building, for he would have found plates from almost every state in the union in the course of a few midsummer visits. As soon as the last college class has been dismissed many a historian packs his travelling bag and the notes for his forthcoming volume and turns the prow of his trusty car toward Worcester. The subjects of their inquiries are of infinite variety and all of their problems are interesting. A scholar from the University of Kansas wished to know when aerial photography began and was delighted when we produced a balloon photograph of Boston taken, believe it or not, in 1860. -

Project Plan EDCP 331 Conspiracy Theories and Critical Thinking
Conspiracy Theories and Critical Thinking EDCP 331 December 2016 1 Project Plan EDCP 331 Conspiracy Theories and Critical Thinking Class Description: The Grade 7 classroom was located in a typical elementary school in a suburban neighbourhood in Delta, British Columbia. There was a total of 29 students, 16 males and 13 females. The teacher is female and has been teaching for seven years. It is a racially diverse classroom of children who come from various ethnic backgrounds. The socioeconomic status of the children could be described as middle class. There were no obvious indicators of wealth such as high end name brand clothing and accessories. Nor was there obvious indicators of poverty worn clothing, unkempt hygiene. The teacher did indicate three males that needed additional support. One diagnosed with autism and a hearing impairment, another diagnosed with autism and is a Jehovah's Witness, and a third ELL with an unstable family environment. These two males required more monitoring, one on one communication and patience from the TC’s during the lessons than did the other students. A third student was identified as gender fluid, listed on the class list as female but preferring to be called by a male name. This challenged the TC’s to attempt to avoid saying “his”, “her”, “boys and girls” and instead call the group by their division and number. This classroom appeared to be keenly interested in the topic at hand but needed monitoring, guidance and support to stay on task. The teacher dealt with a social issue, unrelated to our lesson, for at least one student every time we provided a lesson. -

Extraterrestrial Life Craft Instructions
What’s Fact and Fiction @ Area 51? Area 51 is a secret United States Air Force military base located at Groom Lake in Southern Nevada and was built in 1955. This facility has been the focus of many conspiracy theories involving extraterrestrial life (alien lifeforms), though the official information confirms the base as being a flight-testing facility. The official name for Area 51 is the Nevada Test and Training Range. The name, Area 51, came from its geo- graphical location on a map. Aerial photo of Area 51 Gate at Area 51 Some people believe that Area 51 is a site where government officials have performed experiments with extrater- restrials and their spacecrafts. Others believe that the moon landing in 1969 was fake and was filmed right here on Earth at Area 51. Over the years the CIA, Air Force, and aerospace company Lockheed Martin, have all used Area 51 as a staging ground for test flights of experimental aircraft. According to documents declassified in 2007, in the 1950s and 1960s Area 51 was used as a site for top-secret Cold War-era program known as Oxcart. The purpose of Oxcart’s program was to develop a spy plane that would be undetectable in the air and could be used for gathering information on the Soviet Union. This spy-place called the Archangel-12, was eventually developed at Area 51. The A -12 could travel speeds of more than 2,000 miles an hour and take clear pictures of objects on the ground from high altitudes. These spy planes developed at Area 51 may resemble people’s idea of what alien spacecrafts could look like, which helps explain why so many people reported UFO sightings in the skies above Nevada over the years. -
Instrumentalising the Past: the Germanic Myth in National Socialist Context
RJHI 1 (1) 2014 Instrumentalising the Past: The Germanic Myth in National Socialist Context Irina-Maria Manea * Abstract : In the search for an explanatory model for the present or even more, for a fundament for national identity, many old traditions were rediscovered and reutilized according to contemporary desires. In the case of Germany, a forever politically fragmented space, justifying unity was all the more important, especially beginning with the 19 th century when it had a real chance to establish itself as a state. Then, beyond nationalism and romanticism, at the dawn of the Third Reich, the myth of a unified, powerful, pure people with a tradition dating since time immemorial became almost a rule in an ideology that attempted to go back to the past and select those elements which could have ensured a historical basis for the regime. In this study, we will attempt to focus on two important aspects of this type of instrumentalisation. The focus of the discussion is mainly Tacitus’ Germania, a work which has been forever invoked in all sorts of contexts as a means to discover the ancient Germans and create a link to the modern ones, but in the same time the main beliefs in the realm of history and archaeology are underlined, so as to catch a better glimpse of how the regime has been instrumentalising and overinterpreting highly controversial facts. Keywords : Tacitus, Germania, myth, National Socialism, Germany, Kossinna, cultural-historical archaeology, ideology, totalitarianism, falsifying history During the twentieth century, Tacitus’ famous work Germania was massively instrumentalised by the Nazi regime, in order to strengthen nationalism and help Germany gain an aura of eternal glory.
