  • Cricket Memorabilia Society Postal Auction Closing at Noon 10
CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down. Items will be sent to successful postal bidders the week after the auction and will be sent by the cheapest rate commensurate with the value and size of the item.

  • Settlement Profiles
Settlement Profiles Local Plan Evidence Base www.doncaster.gov.uk Doncaster Settlement Profiles 1.1. As part of the emerging Local Plan, a Settlement Audit was undertaken in 2014 to better understand the service provision across the borough, which in turn helped to determine the Local Plan Settlement Hierarchy. This process is dealt with at length in both the Settlement Audit and the Settlement Background Paper. 1.2. However, some consultation responses to the Settlement Audit and the Homes and Settlements consultation intimated that the Settlement Audit could be further expanded on and clarified. 1.3. As such, the following profiles have been developed which seeks to provide portraits of each defined settlement within the borough (the Main Urban Area; 7 Main Towns; 10 Service Towns and Villages; and 12 Defined Villages). 1.4. Each portrait will expand on the results of the Settlement Audit, and will provide ‘profiles’ for each settlement, dealing with social, economic and environmental matters, as per the Settlement Audit. 1.5. Occasionally, some scores or information published in the Settlement Audit Update (2017) have been amended. These amendments and the rationale are presented overleaf in Table A. 1.6. Information about the Settlement Hierarchy and allocations within each settlement are provided in the Settlement Background Paper and Site Selection Methodology. For convenience, a number of abridged settlement profiles have also been provided in the Settlement Housing Summaries. 1 Settlement Amendment Rationale Change to Scores? Auckley – Settlement scores merged Settlement made up of two Scores now reflect the combined settlement proposed Hayfield Community Profile Areas so in the Settlement Hierarchy.

Elder Yard Chapel was founded in 1662 and built 1692/1694. It was the first non-conformist O chapel in the town. The history of the building is unique in that it is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the town, built when the surrounding areas were a mixture of small alleyways and cottages for working people. The congregation was founded by Reverend John Billingsley in 1662 having previously been employed as vicar of Chesterfield Parish Church from 1653. The Pearson pottery family worshipped there and in 1875 Theophilus Pearson became a trustee. As a result of this connection the Chapel has a large collection of Pearson Pottery including some unusual pieces – Many of which were on display. • North Eastern Railway Civil Engineering Drawings List
North Eastern Railway Civil Engineering Drawings List Description: The collection includes a minority of architectural plans, along with drawings of structures such as bridges and viaducts, maps of permanent way routes and alterations, signalling plans and diagrams, with a variety of miscellaneous components for structures and infrastructure. The collection comprises approximately 3500 plans, diagrams and maps on paper, wax linen and linen- backed cartridge paper. System of arrangement: The original arrangement of the drawings has been lost and they derive from a wide variety of applications within the architectural and civil engineering genres. The drawings have therefore been listed in the rolls in which they were found, and every effort made to record the variety of numbering systems used at different times by the railway company departments involved in creating and storing the drawings, representative of the different types of drawing. There is no one single and consistent numbering arrangement. Physical Characteristics: The drawings survive in a variety of formats and sizes – there are wax linen tracings, colour washed linenbacked original office drawings, drawings on cartridge paper, blueprints and other copying processes. Administrative/Biographical History: The North Eastern Railway Company was formed in 1854 as an amalgamation of the York & North Midland Railway, the Leeds Northern Railway and the York, Newcastle & Berwick Railway. It continued to absorb other companies in the north eastern region of England over subsequent decades, including the Stockton & Darlington Railway, South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway and the West Hartlepool Railway. In 1923 the various railway companies of the United Kingdom were grouped into four large amalgamations.

  • The Works Brass Band – a Historical Directory of the Industrial and Corporate Patronage and Sponsorship of Brass Bands
The works brass band – a historical directory of the industrial and corporate patronage and sponsorship of brass bands Gavin Holman, January 2020 Preston Corporation Tramways Band, c. 1910 From the earliest days of brass bands in the British Isles, they have been supported at various times and to differing extents by businesses and their owners. In some cases this support has been purely philanthropic, but there was usually a quid pro quo involved where the sponsor received benefits – e.g. advertising, income from band engagements, entertainment for business events, a “worthwhile” pastime for their employees, corporate public relations and brand awareness - who would have heard of John Foster’s Mills outside of the Bradford area if it wasn’t for the Black Dyke Band? One major sponsor and supporter of brass bands, particularly in the second half of the 19th century, was the British Army, through the Volunteer movement, with upwards of 500 bands being associated with the Volunteers at some time – a more accurate estimate of these numbers awaits some further analysis. However, I exclude these bands from this paper, to concentrate on the commercial bodies that supported brass bands. I am also excluding social, civic, religious, educational and political organisations’ sponsorship or support. In some cases it is difficult to determine whether a band, composed of workers from a particular company or industry was supported by the business or not. The “workmen’s band” was often a separate entity, supported by a local trade union or other organisation. For the purposes of this review I will be including them unless there is specific reference to a trade union or other social organisation.

These are all associated with Iron Age to Roman activity, including two enclosures recorded through cropmark evidence and geophysical survey, and two pottery kilns, one within an enclosure, the other outside. One of the enclosures was interpreted as a possible settlement site. The strong magnetic signature of the kilns indicated a considerable quantity of burnt clay. It was noted that the geological background would otherwise make identification of infilled ditch-features difficult through geophysical survey. The site is at the northwest edge of an area where many pottery kilns have been recorded, associated with a major pottery industry concentrated to the east of Doncaster in the Roman period. It is unclear whether the features were excavated; the SMR records only refer to geophysical survey and surface finds but the HEC data for this site states that kilns were excavated in this area.
