NEW YORK I Ul UTU CAIRO BERLIN-ROME 2 NBC TRANSMITTER When, a few short weeks ago, the United States was plunged into war, the big NBC family from coast to coast assumed its new responsibilities without confusion and with an efficiency of which I am extremely proud. The job you did during those stirring hours of December 7th and the way you have carried on since that day has been no surprise to us; but it was a heart-warming example of NBC spirit. 1941 saw NBC working in close coopera- tion with the National Government and its various agencies. The Treasury Depart- ment, the Army, the Navy, the Marine Corps and the other branches of the Gov- ernment having a part in the preparation of National Defense made heavy calls on the broadcasting industry. But we had antici- pated their needs. NBC, with its hundreds of fine programs, conceived in the interest of National Defense, made its impress on the American public; there can be no doubt of that. 1942 will present new problems, many of them, no doubt, of serious moment. But come what may, NBC will be ready. We’re enlisted for the duration; we’ll giye no less than our best. Thanks to eyeryone of you for what you haye done and what you are doing.

Daniela Pierre-Bravo Teaches Us How to 'Earn It' Daniela Pierre-Bravo has never met an obstacle more formidable than her will. Disqualified from college scholarships due to her legal status, she built a thriving local Mary Kay business to pay for it. Invited to an interview for an unpaid internship in NYC, she took an 18-hour overnight bus from Ohio and showed up the next morning. And nailed it. Now And now she's the coauthor of the new book, Earn It: A Career Guide for Women in Their Twenties and Beyond with MSNBC Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Alicia Menendez: Hey. For those of you who follow us on Instagram or Twitter, you may already know this, but for those of you who don't, we have merch. We have a brand new mug, perfect for your morning coffee con leche or matcha tea or whatever it is you're into. We've got these canvas pouches that you can use to organize your bag, put in your headphones, your lipstick. And then, we have these sticker sets that you can put wherever you want. I have mine on my laptop. I love it. My laptop feels so much cooler. We'd be so grateful if you headed over to latinatoLatina.com/shop. Check it out. Buy one for yourself, for your friend, for your favorite listener. Again, we love you. We love being able to do this for you, and creating a product at this level requires things like studio time, sound engineer, and so, a little bit of support will really go a long way.

Kenneth possesses qualities with which many after him identify: a passion for the NBC brand and a deep-rooted love for entertainment. NBCUniversal is a peacock in entertainment, fanning out its feathers across various platforms in the industry and mastering each. In 1933, the NBC Page Program was established. In the 85 years since its inception, the Page Program has not only evolved but thrived through that evolution. For 85 years, the Page Program has transformed independent, intelligent individuals into gifted professionals ready to fly on their own. These media professionals learned over the course of twelve months. They succeeded. They failed. They were mentees, and evidently graduated to become mentors. Who are these media professionals? The idiosyncrasies of each Page are what make his or her Program unique. Just like a snowflake, no two experiences are alike. Pages Through the Ages delves into the lives of over fifty former and current NBCUniversal Pages. Telling each personalized story, this exposé presents all NBC has to offer, highlights both the importance and expectation that comes with the title of a Page, and illustrates the incredible twists and turns involved in a career in media.

  • Building American Puppetry on the Jim Henson Foundation
BUILDING AMERICAN PUPPETRY ON THE JIM HENSON FOUNDATION DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Jennifer Kathleen Stoessner, M.A. ***** The Ohio State University 2008 Dissertation Examination Committee: Approved by Dr. Joy Reilly, Adviser Dr. Beth Kattelman Adviser Dr. Alan Woods Graduate Program in Theatre Copyright by Jennifer Kathleen Stoessner 2008 ABSTRACT Historically the United States, with the exception of ritual performances by indigenous Americans, did not have a distinct puppetry tradition, utilizing instead the imported techniques of its immigrant population. In the twentieth century, puppeteers began to explore puppetry’s capabilities, producing challenging and innovative theatrical work in a distinctly American style. Puppetry was given a stage as popular broadcasting content on the newly invented television. In this media environment, Jim Henson pioneered new techniques, becoming the most famous puppeteer in history. His success enabled him to serve his field as a spokesman and sponsor. In 1982, he established the Jim Henson Foundation, a non-profit organization to support puppetry artists. The Jim Henson Foundation is the only organization in the United States devoted to funding puppet theater and its mission reflects Jim Henson’s commitment to the community of artists who make American puppetry the vivid panorama it has become. Without the Foundation, puppetry in the United States would not be experiencing the explosion of creativity and exposure it currently enjoys. To present a picture of puppetry in the United States and Henson’s work, a brief history of puppetry in America as well as an in-depth scrutiny of Jim Henson’s career is provided.
