  • 25 Handbook of Bibliography on Diaspora and Transnationalism.Pdf
BIBLIOGRAPH Y A Hand-book on Diaspora and Transnationalism FIRST EDITION April 2013 Compiled By Monika Bisht Rakesh Ranjan Sadananda Sahoo Draft Copy for Reader’s Comments Global Research Forum on Diaspora and Transnationalism www.grfdt.org Bibleography Preface Large scale international mobility of the people since colonial times has been one of the most important historical phenomenon in the human history. This has impacted upon the social, cultural, political and economic landscape of the entire globe. Though academic interest goes back little early, the phenomenon got the world wide attention as late as 1990s. We have witnessed more proactive engagement of various organizations at national and international level such as UN bodies. There was also growing research interest in the areas. Large number of institutions got engaged in research on diaspora-international migration-refugee-transnationalism. Wide range of research and publications in these areas gave a new thrust to the entire issue and hence advancing further research. The recent emphasis on diaspora’s development role further accentuated the attention of policy makers towards diaspora. The most underemphasized perhaps, the role of diaspora and transnational actors in the overall development process through capacity building, resource mobilization, knowledge sharing etc. are growing areas of development debate in national as well as international forums. There have been policy initiatives at both national and international level to engage diaspora more meaningfully since last one decade. There is a need for more wholistic understanding of the enrite phenomena to facilitate researchers and stakeholders engaged in the various issues related to diaspora and transnationalism. Similarly, we find the areas such as social, political and cultural vis a vis diaspora also attracting more interest in recent times as forces of globalization intensified in multi direction.

View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by OpenGrey Repository The Production of Religious Broadcasting: The Case of the BBC Caitriona Noonan A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Centre for Cultural Policy Research Department of Theatre, Film and Television University of Glasgow Glasgow G12 8QQ December 2008 © Caitriona Noonan, 2008 Abstract This thesis examines the way in which media professionals negotiate the occupational challenges related to television and radio production. It has used the subject of religion and its treatment within the BBC as a microcosm to unpack some of the dilemmas of contemporary broadcasting. In recent years religious programmes have evolved in both form and content leading to what some observers claim is a “renaissance” in religious broadcasting. However, any claims of a renaissance have to be balanced against the complex institutional and commercial constraints that challenge its long-term viability. This research finds that despite the BBC’s public commitment to covering a religious brief, producers in this style of programming are subject to many of the same competitive forces as those in other areas of production. Furthermore those producers who work in-house within the BBC’s Department of Religion and Ethics believe that in practice they are being increasingly undermined through the internal culture of the Corporation and the strategic decisions it has adopted. This is not an intentional snub by the BBC but a product of the pressure the Corporation finds itself under in an increasingly competitive broadcasting ecology, hence the removal of the protection once afforded to both the department and the output.

  • Leigh Rugby Club Was Formed in 1878 and Has Been the Heartbeat of the Community Ever Since
Leigh Rugby Club was formed in 1878 and has been the heartbeat of the community ever since. One of the few towns in England where Rugby League is the dominant sport, Leigh’s own history is intrinsically linked with the fortunes of its rugby league club. Indeed, our town’s crest features a Latin motto which means ‘Progress with Unity’ something we always strive to instil. If you visit Leigh on a Sunday morning you will witness hundreds of children playing the game of rugby league. At our community clubs like Leigh Miners Rangers and Leigh East you will find entire families committed encouraging the disciplines and togetherness of our sport. It is a story reflected in Leigh’s own history where generations of the same family have pulled on the hooped shirt with pride. Both Leigh East and Leigh Miners play a kick away from Leigh Sports Village, a facility which has regenerated the town since it opened more than 10 years ago. More than just a stadium, this is a complex which has welcomed Champions League winners Bayern Munich and Rugby League World Champions Australia for training. Next year, the stadium will host several matches in the Rugby League World Cup and will also be a host venue for the Women’s European Football Championships. Manchester United Women have played their games at the stadium since their formation and global TV coverage means the name of the Leigh Sports Village is now a familiar one with sports fans across the world. It is a stadium which ‘Leythers’ are happy to call home and the atmosphere on match days can take your breath away.
