I wanted to get in touch to remind you who I am and how I can help you. My name is Krystyna Tipple and I am the C&K Careers Adviser based at Honley High School. Even though I am not in school right now, I am still here to help. Access our digital service Chat via telephone 01484 213856 o r email [email protected] At this time in Year 10 it is important to start thinking about the options that are available to you at the end of Year 11 and to start doing some research and preparation for the decisions you will be making about your future. I hope that you have been shown the PowerPoint presentation at school, which explaining the post-16 options. You have also been sent a link to a questionnaire to complete to help me find out more about you and your career plans. Thank you to those that have filled this out so far. I will be working my way through them and will answer any questions you have asked over the next few weeks. I work closely with staff at your school and you may have received several emails from us about different careers activities which will help you make those crucial decisions in Year 11. In this leaflet I have summarised some of the things you can be doing over the next few months.

Revisit the post Year 11 options and discuss them at home

After Year 11 you have three main options (You have to stay in learning until you are 18 and continue with English and maths if you don’t achieve GCSE grade 4 or above)

Full-time education Apprenticeship Part-time education or Traineeship or training One/two year courses in a combined with work, wide range of subjects Apprenticeship volunteering, or self- Courses to suit all ability involves work employment levels and can be and training academic, work related or Part time education job specific Traineeship is must be at least 280 You can study them at course with work planned qualification college, sixth form college, experience hours per year and another school sixth form or lead to accredited a training provider qualifications Where do you stand on this learning ladder? This information will help when looking at courses, levels, and qualifications at colleges and sixth forms: BTECs, CACHE, NVQs are vocational and related to an area of work. They are available at level 1, 2, and 3 and are mainly coursework based. Level 3 Qualifications * BTEC Level 3 courses are available as Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A levels), Diploma (equivalent to 2 A levels) and Certificate (equivalent to 1 A level)….. Assessed mainly by coursework.

* A levels - most students will choose to study 3 subjects. Some colleges will allow you to combine BTECs and A levels…...Assessed mainly by exams.

* T levels are new 2-year courses equivalent to 3 A levels - mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ work experience (none in Calderdale or Kirklees for September 2020).
