Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) took second place in the long jump at the Penn Invitational (Apr. 4). He recorded a distance of 23’ 7.5” (7.20 meters). Hayes also ran the first leg of the eighth place 4x100 meter relay (43.48). For his performance, he was selected the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Field Athlete of the Week. FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Midfielder Carly Welsh (sr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) totaled 12 points for the women’s lacrosse team. She recorded eight goals and four assists in a 2-0 week for the Profs. Against Eastern University (Mar. 31), Welsh compiled three goals, two ground balls and one draw control. She followed that up with five goals and four assists versus NJAC opponent Kean University (Apr. 2). This season, Welsh leads the team with 25 points and 18 goals. She is tied for first with 17 ground balls. Sat., Apr. 11 New Jersey City University (DH), noon at York College (PA) - ppd. to 4/20 Last week, the baseball team lost to Gwynedd-Mercy College, 6-3 (Mar. 31) and Ramapo College, 9-7 (Apr. 2). Rowan split a doubleheader at William Paterson University, losing 20-9 and winning 12-5 in six innings (Apr. 4). Against Gwynedd-Mercy, second baseman Brandon Winkler (fr. Glendora, NJ/Paul VI) went two for three with one RBI and a double. Center fielder Garrett Mull (sr. Chatsworth, NJ/Lenape) added two hits in five trips to the plate. Left fielder Keith Evans (jr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon), right fielder Scott Weaver (so. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) and catcher Nick Turano (fr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) each scored one run. 2009 Rowan Weekly Sports Release Versus Ramapo, first baseman Tom Ready (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) posted three hits (five at bats), three RBIs, two runs scored, two doubles and a home run. Second baseman Pete Delleani (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) registered two hits (four at bats), two RBIs, one run scored and a double. Third baseman Brad Woodend (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was two for four with one run scored. In game one at William Paterson, right fielder John McMullin (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) compiled two hits (four at bats), one RBI, two runs scored and a home run. Designated hitter Tom Reindel (sr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) contributed with three hits (five at bats), two runs scored, one RBI and two doubles. Shortstop David Lenig (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville) and first baseman Sam Parks (sr. Monroeville, NJ/Woodstown) both drove in two runs. Woodend chipped in with two hits and two RBIs. In the second game, right-hander Jay Gallen (jr. Gibbsboro, NJ/Bishop Eustace) tossed 4.2 innings to improve to 4-0. Reindel totaled five hits (five at bats) and two runs scored. Parks went two for three with three RBIs, two runs scored and a home run. McMullin posted three hits (four at bats), three RBIs and one run scored. Mull added two RBIs and left fielder Jordan Marsch (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) scored twice. WOMEN’S LACROSSE (5-4, NJAC 2-0) Results: Upcoming Games: at Eastern University 11-9 Wed., Apr. 8 at Stevens Institute of Technology, 7:00 p.m. Kean University 18-4 Sat., Apr. 11 at Montclair State University, 1:00 p.m. The women’s lacrosse team went 2-0 last week. Rowan beat Eastern University, 11-9 (Mar. 31) and Kean University, 18-4 (Apr. 2). At Eastern, midfielder Carly Welsh (sr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) found the net three times. Attacks Tori Hart (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Alli Dickey (so. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) and midfielder Nicole Valianti (so. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) all scored twice. Attack Lauren Crennan (sr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and midfielder Kelly Angstadt (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) added one goal apiece. Angstadt also picked up two assists, while Crennan and Hart each had one. Goalie Kerry Pehnke (fr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) made eight saves in 48:20. Goalie Alicia Mannino (sr. Richboro, NJ/Conwell-Egan Catholic) was in the net for 11:40. Versus Kean, Welsh totaled five goals and four assists. Midfielder Ali Goodman (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Crennan, Hart and Dickey all scored two goals. Goodman also had two assists. Midfielder Trish Harrington (so. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) registered one goal and one assist. Midfielder Michelle Lubrano (fr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross), attack Alayna Morris (jr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.), defender Annette Merlino (sr. Berlin, NJ/ Eastern Reg.) and Angstadt contributed with one goal apiece. Tue., Apr. 7 at Rutgers-Camden, 3:00 p.m. Montclair State University 5-0, 7-1 Sat., Apr. 11 at Kean University, 1:00 p.m. Last week, the softball team posted a 4-0 mark in conference play. Rowan swept New Jersey City University, 8-0 and 11-0 (Mar. 31). Both games went five innings due to the eight-run rule. The Profs defeated Montclair State University, 5-0 and 7-1 (Apr. 5). Rowan was ranked 16th in last week’s National Fastpitch Coaches As- sociation Poll. In the first game against New Jersey City, right-hander Jackie Sasko (sr. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) recorded a no-hitter. She struck out three batters. Designated player Ashley Landi (so. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) went three for three with two RBIs, two runs scored, two doubles and a triple. First baseman Nicki Veneziano (fr. Bloom- field, NJ/Bloomfield) and center fielder Kristina Brenner (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) each recorded two hits in three at bats. Veneziano posted one RBI and one run scored, while Brenner crossed the plate twice. Second baseman Jenna DiDonato (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and catcher Steph Taraschi (jr. Mt. Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) both drove in two runs. Right-hander Amanda Singer (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/E. Brunswick) earned the win in the second game. She struck out five batters for her fifth shutout of the year. DiDonato was three for three with three runs scored, two RBIs, a double and a home run. Catcher Ashley Minch (fr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) had three hits (three at bats), three RBIs, two runs scored and a double. Landi contributed with two hits (three at bats), two runs scored, a double and a triple. Third baseman Julie Leskanic (fr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) and left fielder Casey Roselle (so. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) both went two for three with two RBIs. Roselle also recorded a double and Leskanic hit a home run. In game one versus Montclair State, Sasko pitched a complete game to improve to 12-1. She only allowed four hits and struck out eight batters for her sixth shutout of the season. Roselle registered two hits (three at bats), three RBIs, one run scored and a triple. Minch and Brenner both drove in one run, while Leskanic scored twice. Singer threw four innings for the win in game two. She only surrendered four hits. Sasko was on the mound for the final three innings to earn her second save. She was named the NJAC Pitcher of the Week for the second con- secutive week. Leskanic compiled three hits (four at bats) and one run scored. Landi totaled two RBIs, one run scored and a triple. Right fielder Heidi Smith (jr. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) went one for two with two RBIs. Minch chipped in with one hit (two at bats), one RBI, one run scored and a double. She earned NJAC Rookie of the Week honors. MEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD Result: Upcoming Meet: at Penn Invitational - ind. competition Fri., Apr. 10 Rowan Open, 3:00 p.m. (University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA) (Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ) The men’s outdoor track and field team competed at the Penn Invitational (Apr. 4). Mark Lisa (fr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) came in fifth with a leap of 22’ 5.25” (6.84 meters). Mike Rivera (sr. Old Tappan, NJ/ Northern Valley Old Tappan) was sixth in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:20.04. In the javelin, Sean Biehn (jr. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) finished third with 181’ 2” (55.21 meters). Matt Tholis (fr. Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) took sixth place with 175’ 2” (53.40 meters) and Anthony Ruggeri (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was 11th with 166’ 4” (50.70 meters). Jason Yanchuck (jr. Somerset, NJ/Frank- lin) had an eighth place in the shot put with a toss of 46’ 2.5” (14.08 meters).
