DUNN, STEVENS SELECTED PIONEER OF THE WEEK FOR NCAA CONFERENCE (May 5) WAYNE, N.J. – William Pa- terson University student-ath- letes Bobby Dunn (Garwood, N.J./Johnson Regional) and Joi Stevens (Somerset. N.J./Franklin) have been selected to participate in the 2008 NCAA National Student- Athlete Development Conference at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Stevens will att end the May 25-27 session, while Dunn will participate in the May 27-29 event.

The NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may aff ect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the Mike Guadango -- opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and Baseball problem-solving skills. Center fi elder John Elia (Emerson, N.J./Pascack Val- ley) posted one hit (four at-bats), a double, one RBI and one run scored. Rowan got on the scoreboard fi rst with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Hasenauer scored on an error and Urbanovich came home on a ground out by Rodriguez. The Profs added eight runs in the sixth. Urbanovich drove in Hasenauer with a double and Ready’s double scored Urbanovich. Rodriguez’s single plated Ready and right fi elder John McMullin. Second baseman Joe Franceschi- ni’s single knocked in center fi elder Garrett Mull. The Profs went up 14-0 aft er tacking on six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Catcher Robert Fox doubled in fi rst baseman Tom Ready and McMullin and Rodriguez came home on a wild pitch. Fox crossed the plate on a ground out by shortstop David Lenig. Ur- banovich added a two-run double. William Paterson scored six runs in the bott om half. Elia doubled in Guadango, and third baseman Anthony Perrone (Midland Park, N.J./Bergen Catholic) scored on James Gregory’s (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) single. MONTCLAIR STATE 10, PIONEERS 1, NJAC Tournament (May 4) Montclair State (25-15) took a 4-0 lead aft er three innings en route to a 10-1 victory against William Paterson (23-19) in an elimina- tion game of the 2008 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Baseball Tournament May 4 at Newark’s Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Senior catcher Jeff Miller led the Red Hawks with a 3-for-5 day at the plate, fi ve RBI, three runs scored, a double and a . Senior fi rst baseman Lou Politan was 3-for-4 and scored three runs, and junior third baseman Stephen Piscitello was 2-for-5 with a two- run home run. Sophomore second baseman Vin Ganz (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) was 2-for-4 with a RBI for William Paterson, and sopho- more right fi elder Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) went 2-for-3 with a double. Sophomore outfi elder Andrue Laguerre (Jersey City, N.J./St. Benedict’s Prep) added a pair of doubles, and senior shortstop Dan Limone (Teaneck, N.J./Te- aneck) was 1-for-4 with two stolen bases to fi nish his career with a Pioneer-record 95 steals, including a program-best 38 this spring. Sophomore right-hander Jesus Castano was the winner on the mound (2-0), pitching 7.0 innings of six-hit ball and allowing just one run. Freshman left -hander Chris Mongelli (Riverdale, N.J./Pompton Lakes) suff ered the loss (3-4) aft er 4.0 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs (three earned). Junior left fi elder Ed Kloepping started the scoring in the top of the second, lift ing a solo shot over the right-fi eld fence. The Red Hawks extended that advantage to 4-0 in the third, thanks to a two-run Miller single and a run-scoring Rob Bowness double down the left -fi eld line. Miller made it a 6-0 edge with a two-run homer in the fi ft h. The Pioneers’ Laguerre later kept it a six-run game in the sixth, snatching Kevin Cuozzi’s fl y ball back from going over the left -fi eld wall with one out and a runner on fi rst. Laguerre broke the scoreless drought for the Pioneers in the seventh aft er a double inside the third-base bag, a grounder that moved him to third base, and a Ganz RBI-single through the left side of the infi eld. The Red Hawks plated four runs in the top of the ninth, two coming from a Piscitello round-tripper to left fi eld.

GUADANGO REPEATS AS FIRST-TEAM ALL-NJAC SELECTION For the second straight year, William Paterson sophomore outfi elder Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern High- lands) was named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference’s (NJAC) Baseball All-First Team, the conference offi ce announced May 1. Through games of April 30, Guadango ranked among the league leaders in almost every off ensive category, including a NJAC-lead- ing 50 runs scored (tied-27th in Division III), 56 RBI (tied-12th in NCAA), 16 doubles, 71 hits (tied-11th nationally) and 117 total bases (tied-14th in Division III). He also ranked fi rst in hits/game (1.82) and doubles/game (0.41), second in batt ing average (.430), (.709), home runs (eight), RBIs/game (1.44, 22nd in Division III) and runs/game (1.28), fi ft h in homers/game (0.21), seventh in on-base percentage (.486), and tied for 11th in triples (three). On the Pioneer single-season charts, he was sixth in hits, seventh in RBI, ninth in batt ing average and tied for 10th in doubles, and on the WP career list, he stands fourth in batt ing average (.421, 130-309). Kean threatened with two on and one out in the eighth before ending its at-bat with a pair of fl y outs, and WP did not threaten during the home half of the inning. The Cougars began the ninth with a double to left , sacrifi ced the runner to third and scored follow- ing a grounder to third for an 8-7 game. The Pioneers’ fi rst two hitt ers recorded outs in the ninth, but Abourashed’s single gave William Paterson hope. Zippler stepped to the plate and hit a ball hard to the warning track, but Kean’s left fi elder was able to sett le under it and record the game’s fi nal out. Caruso was 3-for-5 for the Pioneers, while Reilly was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Vitale suff ered the loss (6-7), throwing a total of 6.1 innings aft er starting the contest and then recording the fi nal six outs.

TRIO EARN ALL-NJAC HONORS Three members of the William Paterson soft ball team – senior pitcher Diana Schraer (Paramus, N.J./Paramus), junior catcher/out- fi elder Meghan Reilly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) and freshman infi elder/outfi elder Lindsey Nadolny (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) – were named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Second Team, the conference offi ce announced April 30. For Schraer, it was her fourth career all-conference accolade (2008, 2007 and 2006 second teams, 2005 fi rst team). Through games of April 27, she led the William Paterson pitching staff with an 11-6 record and 1.97 earned-run average in 19 appearances. Starting 17 times with nine complete games and one shutout, she was tied for seventh in the NJAC in victories, ranks 11th in innings pitched (99.2) and 12th in strikeouts (60). For her career, she is William Paterson’s leader in winning percentage (.789, 60-16), third in victories, strike- outs (275) and shutouts (20), and fi ft h in ERA (1.33) and innings pitched (523.0). Reilly, a fi rst-team all-NJAC selection last year, was batt ing .307 (27-88) while starting 34 of the Pioneers’ 40 games. Tied for second for WP in runs scored (19) and third in RBI (13), she added fi ve doubles, a triple, a team-best .436 on-base percentage and a .992 fi eld- ing percentage through games of April 27. On the conference statistical charts, she was sixth in walks/game (0.56), eighth in on-base percentage, and tied for ninth in walks (19). Nadolny earned her fi rst conference award aft er leading WP’s everyday players with a .358 batt ing average in 34 games as a fresh- man. Also the team leader in RBI (26), triples (six), home runs (two), and slugging percentage (.566), she added 18 runs scored and four stolen bases this spring. The NJAC leader in triples/game (0.18, tied-17th in Division III), she was tied for second in triples, ninth in RBI/game (0.76), 10th in slugging percentage, and 12th in hits/game (.1.12) in the conference statistics.
