Public Works Department

Along with regular road maintenance the Public Works Department offers two optional seasonal programs for residents, they are...

Driveway Snow Removal

Brazeau County has a driveway snow removal program which al- lows residents (excluding hamlets) to sign up for limited snow re- moval. This service has several important points that people should take note of prior to applying.

The plowing will happen only when it is convenient for the County to do so. After the most recent snowfall event has ended, expect a wait of up to 7 days before driveways are plowed. If immediate plowing is re- quired, the landowner/resident will have to seek other options to have the snow removed. The County’s first priority is public roads.

Driveway snow clearing does not involve "custom snow clearing of yards". It involves a pass in and out on the driveway. If custom cleaning is required, the resident should make arrangements with private operators.

The same applies to emergent situations as private driveway snow removal is not the priority for the County. If there is an emergency, alternate arrangements should be made.

The first plowing of the season is free, each plowing after is a minimum charge of $20.00 plus GST. Seniors are free if the “EXEMPTION DECLARATION” section of the agreement has been executed.

It is the landowner’s responsibility to ensure there is enough room to accommodate the grader. The County has the right to refuse service. If the driveway is “treed” in, meaning if a grader cannot make it in and out without damaging the grader with limbs breaking antennas off, etc., then the County will not plow the drive- way. Dust Control Program

The Dust Control Program provides landowners in Brazeau County with the opportunity to have dust control products ap- plied to gravel roads in front of their residences. Please pay at- tention to the important points outlined below:

Each year, the County will advertise (in the local paper) that applications for dust control are being ac- cepted. The dust control season is from May 1 to September 30 of each year.

The County does not guarantee that the dust control agent will be effective to eliminate dust, but only to control it. Dust control spots will be maintained at the County’s discretion.

A new application form is required for each application that is requested seasonally. The $157.50 fee per rural road residence or $78.75 per country residential residence must be paid prior to the County applying the dust control.

Applications for both of these programs are available on our website or at the County office. If you require any further information, please contact our Public Works Department at 780-542-7711.

Agriculture Department

With so much of our Municipality being both rural and agricultural in nature our Agriculture Depart- ment offers the following programs for our residents.

Fence Line Agreements This entails a herbicide application to approximately 1 meter from the fence line to con- trol restricted/noxious weeds and deciduous trees under 2 meters in the road allowance.

Forage Sampling A forage sampler is available to County residents to collect from feed stocks and then have them tested. Results are often available within 5- 10 days, depending on the tests being done.

Fusarium Graminearum For this service, bring in at least two cups of the cereal grains that you wish to sample. There is no cost for the first two samples per farm.

“No Spray” Request Applications Requests can be made to refrain from spraying herbicides used to control brush and weeds along the road right-of-ways. By requesting this, the applicant must take respon- sibility of controlling the weeds and brush themselves. There is a one time fee of $35.00 for this program.

Rental Equipment Several pieces of equipment are made available to ratepayers of Brazeau County. Livestock handling equipment, seeders, skunk traps, sprayers and several other pieces of equipment are here to rent. Please call the office ahead of time for pric- ing and availability.

Soil Sampling Soil sample results aid in assessing fertility and help to make fertilizer recom- mendations. Staff from Agricultural Services will take samples for producers. A 50% subsidy is available on the first two samples per farm.

For more information on any of the above mentioned services, please contact our Agriculture Department at 780-542-7777.
