If you would like an updated version of the paper feel free to contact me. 1 Introduction Research has already established that the availability of interactive features in news sites distinguishes online journalism from its offline counterparts (Pavlik 2000; Deuze and Paulussen 2002). Interactivity signifies a shift from the traditional media one-to-many communication flow to the emergence of a two-way communication model which converts online audiences from pas- sive to active media consumers (Pavlik 2001). The potential of interactivity to facilitate a dialogue between the media and its audiences is therefore in- disputable. Nonetheless, a series of studies has demonstrated that the use of interactive features by mainstream news sites is relatively limited, espe- cially features that promote user-to-user interactions (Chung 2004; Deuze 2003; Domingo 2008; Kenney et al. 2000; Massey and Levy 1999; Quinn and Trench 2000; Rosenberry 2005; Schultz 2000).1 This paper focuses primar- ily on mainstream news sites for two reasons. First, these sites are some of the most popular news sources in the World Wide Web (Rosenberry 2005). Additionally, these sites represent prominent offline news organizations and thus are more likely to be perceived as authoritative sources. Most research thus far on interactivity and the news media is mainly con- cerned with the integration of interactive features as a whole (Chung 2004, 2007; Domingo 2008; Massey and Levy 1999). This approach is important because it helps us to understand the aggregated effect of these features on the news production process. -

The 50-ton marble tablet, engraved with the 45 words of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, was displayed on the four-story-high, 74-foot-tall Pennsylvania Avenue façade of the Newseum, a nonprofit museum founded by the Freedom Forum and dedicated to the five freedoms of the First Amendment. Work has begun to remove the stone pieces from the building, which was sold to Johns Hopkins University after the Newseum closed in 2019. The tablet remained the property of the Freedom Forum, and will be a gift to the National Constitution Center. The tablet will be reconfigured and emplaced along a 100-foot-wide wall on the National Constitution Center’s Grand Hall Overlook, the second-floor atrium overlooking historic Independence Mall. “We are thrilled to bring this heroic marble tablet of the First Amendment to the National Constitution Center, to inspire visitors from across America and around the world for generations to come,” said National Constitution Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen. “It’s so meaningful to bring -

The Donald Trump-Rupert Murdoch relationship in the United States When Donald Trump ran as a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, Rupert Murdoch was reported to be initially opposed to him, so the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post were too.1 However, Roger Ailes and Murdoch fell out because Ailes wanted to give more positive coverage to Trump on Fox News.2 Soon afterwards, however, Fox News turned more negative towards Trump.3 As Trump emerged as the inevitable winner of the race for the nomination, Murdoch’s attitude towards Trump appeared to shift, as did his US news outlets.4 Once Trump became the nominee, he and Rupert Murdoch effectively concluded an alliance of mutual benefit: Murdoch’s news outlets would help get Trump elected, and then Trump would use his powers as president in ways that supported Rupert Murdoch’s interests. An early signal of this coming together was Trump’s public attacks on the AT&T-Time Warner merger, 21st Century Fox having tried but failed to acquire Time Warner previously in 2014. Over the last year and a half, Fox News has been the major TV news supporter of Donald Trump. Its coverage has displayed extreme bias in his favour, offering fawning coverage of his actions and downplaying or rubbishing news stories damaging to him, while also leading attacks against Donald Trump’s opponent in the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton.
