K-State’s men are No. 33 in the preseason rankings with two Wildcats in the Top 10 in their events. Defending NCAA champion is No. 1 in the high jump and Mantas Silka- uskas is No. 9 in the decathlon using his best score from 2010 after not competing in the event last season. Silkauskas also is No. 23 in the 110 meter hurdles. The men also have a number of athletes in the Top 50, including a pair of Wildcats ranked in both the 100m and 200m (Marty- nas Jurgilas, Carlos Rodriguez). Again, Krais posted her best mark of the season in an event with her jumping 18-07.25 (5.67m) in the long jump. The fourth-place finish was Jeffrey Julmis -- 60m Hurdles 2012: 11th place, 7.79 the best for the men since taking third in 2005. The women finished seventh with 56 points, 2011: 5th place, 7.72 and the last time the women finished seventh or better was 2009. Rovelto said he was happy 2010: 13th place, 7.84 with how his teams performed and praised the effort against some of the best teams in the country in arguably the deepest league in the country. Erik Kynard -- High Jump 2012: T-4th place, 2.20m/7-02.50 2011: 3rd place, 2.20m/7-02.50 K-State came away from the conference championship meet with a combined total of five ti- 2010: 11th place, 2.13m/7-00.25 tles, as K-State continued to show its dominance in the combined events and the high jump. Women Boglarka Bozzay -- 800M 2012: 6th place, 800M 2:06.00 The Wildcats helped solidify their chance to claim K-State as High Jump U with a sweep of the 2009: 11th place, DMR 11:23.11 men’s and women’s titles along with adding another scorer in the event. Erik Kynard success- fully defended his title clearing 2.27 meters (7-05.25) with no other competitor clearing seven Ryann Krais -- Pentathlon feet. He failed his attempts at clearing 2.34 meters (7-08.00), which would have tied for the sec- 2012: 5th place, 4142 points 2011: 6th place, 4115 points ond best mark in NCAA history. Freshman Alyx Treasure won the women’s high jump with her 2010: 10th place, 3949 points (UCLA) clearance of 1.83 meters (6-00.00). The mark puts her in fourth on the NCAA list this season. “When we were asked to pick someone to win this award and we looked at the criteria, one person in particular stood out,” Rovelto said. “When you look at character, when you look at moral standards, when you look at dedication and work ethic there are a number of people on the team that we feel meet the criteria, but Blaine here stood out. He started as a walk-on, and he has been a wonderful member of our team.”

Cash said he was humbled by the award considering the criteria and other members of the team he believed were worthy of such an honor.

“It’s mind blowing to think that someone like coach thought enough of me with the group of guys and girls that we have and he thinks I’m a reflection of what the Army expects,” Cash said. “It kind of leaves me speechless to think I stood out and it was, like he said, a no brainer for him.”
