Con- taining available services, directories, names, addresses, telephone numbers, and, now, Web site and e-mail addresses, it puts helpful ministry information at our fingertips. The yearbook also tells a story. That story is about who we are as a fellowship. It’s about the partnerships that unite us in ministry. It’s about where we’ve grown and the departed servants of God who are no longer with us. It’s about how we are organized and where we can go for answers, assistance, and direction. The yearbook tells the story of who we are lo- cally—and around the world. Even as the pages of this volume were rolling off the presses, churches and ministers were relocating; dates, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses were changing—we are a movement after all! For that reason, the information you will find here is a snapshot in time. Our story is ever-changing. Nonetheless, this yearbook provides the most current, most complete look at the Church of God available anywhere. Critical Information about the Web Contents of the 2009 Yearbook External Web site links and resources are neither sponsored nor endorsed by Church of God Ministries, which assumes no responsibility for their content. Some of the Web site addresses found in this yearbook may be incorrect. For various rea- sons, the address of a Web site may change at times. When such changes occur, on occasion objectionable material may appear at a Web address that was previously used by a church or Christian organization. We recognize the challenges that many pastors, laypeople, and constituents face with the Internet and would like to ask you to help us keep our records updated. Whenever some- thing changes, contact us at [email protected] and we will update your Web address in our records and on www.chog.org as soon as possible. You can always check for updated addresses and Web site links on www.chog.org in the Church Finder. 1 Important Information from the United States Treasury Department Annually, the Ministries Council of the Church of God is required to submit supplemental information concerning subordinate organizations of the Church of God. Records are then changed at the Internal Revenue Offices to reflect any additional congregations or organiza- tions, deletions, and name or address changes to the roster of subordinates included in our group exemption letter. This exemption letter recognizes the exemption of all subordinates included under Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; any new subordinates in- cluded have been classified as organizations that are not private foundations as defined in Section 509(a) of the code, based on notification submitted. In response to evidence presented by the Ministries Council Office, letters have come from the U.S. Treasury Department verifying the exemption of the Church of God and its congre- gations from Federal Income Tax and also certifying that contributions, bequests, legacies, devises, or transfers to the Church of God or its congregations are deductible in making income tax reports. In response to the many inquiries that come regarding tax issues, please be informed of a letter addressed to the General Assembly of the Church of God dated June 9, 2004: This is in response to your request of June 9, 2004 regarding a copy of your organization’s group exemption letter. In July 1960 we issued a determination letter that recognized your organization as exempt from federal income tax. Our records indicate that your organization is currently exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Based on the information submitted, we recognized the subordinates named on the list your organization supplied as exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Code. Also, we classified those subordinates as organi- zations that are not private foundations because they are organizations of the type described in sections 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(i) of the Code. Donors may deduct contributions to your organization’s subordinates as pro- vided in section 170 of the Code. Bequests, legacies, devises, transfers or gifts to the subordinates or for their use are deductible for federal estate and gift tax purposes if they meet the applicable provisions of sections 2055, 2106, and 2522 of the Code. Your organization and its subordinates are not required to file federal income tax returns unless subject to the tax on unrelated business income under sec- tion 511 of the Code. If subject to this tax, the organization must file an income tax return on Form 990-T, Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return. In this letter, we are not determining whether any of your organization or its subordinates’ present or proposed activities are unrelated trade or business as defined in section 513 of the Code. 2 Unless specifically excepted, your organization and its subordinates are liable for taxes under the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (social security taxes) on remuneration of $100 or more paid each employee during a calendar year. This does not apply, however, if your organization makes or has made a timely election under section 3121(w) of the Code to be exempt from such tax. Your organization and its subordinates are not liable for the tax imposed under the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA). Section 6104 of the Internal Revenue Code requires organizations that received recognition of exemption on July 15, 1987, or later, to make available for public inspection a copy of the exemption application, any supporting documents and the exemption letter to any individual who requests such documents in person or in writing. Organizations that received recognition of exemption before July 15, 1987, and had a copy of their exemption application on July 15, 1987, are also required to make available for public inspection a copy of the exemption application, any supporting documents and
