Work began on the new bridge in March 2010 and it was opened to two lanes of traffic in July 2011. The old bridge was scheduled for demolition by September 2011. The new bridge will form a significant architectural feature and focal point for the Ulverstone Wharf redevelopment. Premier of Tasmania - Anniversary of June 2016 floods a time for reflection Search Home News About Cabinet Speeches Budget Contact Will Hodgman Premier of Tasmania 5 June 2017 Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Primary Industries and Water Anniversary of June 2016 floods a time for reflection In marking the 12-month anniversary of last June’s devastating floods, it is a time to reflect on the tragic loss of life and the many families, farms and communities that were impacted. Once in a century floods swept across 20 of Tasmania’s 29 municipalities with enormous speed and causing catastrophic damage to farms and infrastructure and people’s livelihoods. It is difficult to adequately describe the heartache of missing family members, farmers losing stock or a family seeing their home go under water – it has a different impact on every individual. The community, including the Tasmanian Government, stood beside these families and communities as they rebuilt and we continue to help with rehabilitation grants, loans and financial advice. The total damage bill is estimated in excess of $180 million and my thanks go to the many organisations like the local councils, TFGA, Dairy Tas, Rural Business Tasmania, Rural Alive and Well, and DPIPWE who all worked magnificently together to help affected families and communities. The Tasmanian Government quickly responded with a series of Emergency Assistance Grants, Community and Primary Producer Clean-up Grants, funding to the Rural Relief Fund, established the Flood Recovery Taskforce, the Flood Recovery Loan Scheme and also successfully liaised with the Australian Government for the affected regions to be covered by the National Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangement. -

Tasmanian Freight Survey 2008-09 – Data Summary Page 1 of 38 Tasmanian Freight Survey Data Summary 2013 Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources Tasmanian Freight Survey 2008-09 – Data Summary Page 2 of 38 Tasmanian Freight Survey Data Summary 2013 Introduction The Tasmanian Freight Survey is undertaken by the Infrastructure Strategy Division of the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources (DIER) to inform planning for Tasmania’s future freight transport system. The 2011-12 Survey is the fourth time that the survey has been conducted, with previous surveys held in 2002-03, 2005-06 and 2008-09. Around 150 interviews were conducted, allowing DIER to capture data from many businesses across Tasmania; to understand freight movements to and from businesses; the frequency of trips; and the types of vehicles used. Survey results can be compared to previous years’ results to better understand changes in freight demanding industries, such as the recent decline in the forestry task, and major structural changes to the freight system such as the withdrawal of a direct international shipping service from the Port of Launceston (Bell Bay). The Survey provides a summary of large freight movements across the major parts of Tasmania’s land transport network. The Survey provides information on: • the location of freight trips, including: o movements between and through major sea and air ports; and o between industrial areas and across network segments (road and rail). • freight tonnage; • commodity type; and • mode and vehicle type. Data from the Survey is used for a number of different purposes, including: • detailed freight movement analysis and modelling for projects including funding submissions and State transport policies; • developing the State Road Hierarchy; • developing regional integrated transport plans, including the o Southern Integrated Transport Plan; o Northern Integrated Transport Plan; and o Cradle Coast Integrated Transport Plan • assessing the potential impact of road development proposals on freight movement. -

INTRODUCTION While the outcome of the March 2018 Tasmanian State Election was predictable,1 the controversies that dogged the campaign were not. Yet it was the aftermath of the election that was most astonishing—not only to the public but also to members of Cabinet. Tasmania is different. Its parliamentary institutions are unusual and its electoral system is distinctive. So were the issues on which the March 2018 state election was fought. In the lead up to the election both major parties campaigned to govern alone or not at all—neither in minority nor in coalition with the Greens. As well as this apparently overarching concern, there were three other major issues prominent during the campaign—an acute housing shortage, the thousands of poker machines in pubs and clubs, and the surprise matter of gun control. A Review of Geoconservation Values
Geoconservation Values of the TWWHA and Adjacent Areas 3.0 GEOCONSERVATION AND GEOHERITAGE VALUES OF THE TWWHA AND ADJACENT AREAS 3.1 Introduction This section provides an assessment of the geoconservation (geoheritage) values of the TWWHA, with particular emphasis on the identification of geoconservation values of World Heritage significance. This assessment is based on: • a review (Section 2.3.2) of the geoconservation values cited in the 1989 TWWHA nomination (DASETT 1989); • a review of relevant new scientific data that has become available since 1989 (Section 2.4); and: • the use of contemporary procedures for rigorous justification of geoconservation significance (see Section 2.2) in terms of the updated World Heritage Criteria (UNESCO 1999; see this report Section 2.3.3). In general, this review indicates that the major geoconservation World Heritage values of the TWWHA identified in 1989 are robust and remain valid. However, only a handful of individual sites or features in the TWWHA are considered to have World Heritage value in their own right, as physical features considered in isolation (eg, Exit Cave). In general it is the diversity, extent and inter-relationships between numerous features, sites, areas or processes that gives World Heritage significance to certain geoheritage “themes” in the TWWHA (eg, the "Ongoing Natural Geomorphic and Soil Process Systems" and “Late Cainozoic "Ice Ages" and Climate Change Record” themes). This "wholistic" principle under-pinned the 1989 TWWHA nomination (DASETT 1989, p. 27; see this report Section 2.3.2), and is strongly supported by the present review (see discussion and justification of this principle in Section 2.2).
