Football of today is not a carefree game but big business" - A study of Swedish leading football journals view of the Swedish national football team and the professionalization 1958-2015 In this study we’ve followed the Swedish national team in football from 1958, nine years before the removal of the Swedish amateurisms, throughout the professionalism until 2015. The purpose has been too look at the leading football and sports journals to compare the view of the Swedish national teams in football during the world cup years of 1958, 1974, 1994 and the qualification too the UEFA Euro 2016 which was played in 2015. We have also looked into the view of the professionalization of Swedish football which has turned into a more international professionalization during the last twenty years. The football and sports journals we’ve study is Idrottsbladet (1958 & 1974), Svensk fotbolltidning (1974 & 1994), Goal (1994 & 2015) and Offside (2015). We have an analysis with focus on the professionalisms progress. The analysis is based on three views, philosophy, organization and economics. The philosophy has changed from being a game too become a spectacle, the organization has gone from volunteering too wage work and professionalism too interacting agents. In the economics football has gone from having its focus on the results of the sport to the result of the profit, to being about money by spectacle.

  • CSR in Swedish Football
CSR in Swedish football A multiple case study of four clubs in Allsvenskan By: Lina Nilsson 2018-10-09 Supervisors: Marcus Box, Lars Vigerland and Erik Borg Södertörn University | School of Social Sciences Master Thesis 30 Credits Business Administration | Spring term 2018 ABSTRACT The question of companies’ social responsibility taking, called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), has been widely debated in research since the 1900s. However, the research connecting CSR to sport was not started until the beginning of the 2000s, meaning that there are still many gaps in sport research that has to be filled. One such gap is research on CSR in a Swedish football context. Accordingly, the purpose of the study was firstly to examine how and why Swedish football clubs – organised as non-profit associations or sports corporations – work with CSR, and secondly whether or not there was a difference in the CSR work of the two organisational forms. A multiple case study of four clubs in Allsvenskan was carried out, examining the CSR work – meaning the CSR concept and activities, the motives for engaging in CSR and the role of the stakeholders – in detail. In addition, the CSR actions of all clubs of Allsvenskan were briefly investigated. The findings of the study showed that the four clubs of the multiple case study had focused their CSR concepts in different directions and performed different activities. As a consequence, they had developed different competences and competitive advantages. Furthermore, the findings suggested that the motives for engaging in CSR were a social agenda, pressure from stakeholders and financial motives.

What happened on 29 May 1985 at the Heysel stadium in Brussels was the darkest hour in the history of the UEFA competitions. Disaster struck the final of the Champion Clubs’ Cup between Juventus and Liverpool before a ball had even been kicked, leaving 39 spectators dead and injuring many more during what should have been a celebration of football. Whilst this tragedy could have called into question the future of the major European football competitions, particularly the Champion Clubs’ Cup, it soon became clear that defeatism was not the best way to pay tribute to the victims.
