1 “Global Command Series” Char 2C (FCM 2C) Super Heavy Tank French Set A Global War 2nd Edition 3d Printed Expansion © Historical Board Gaming Overview We are excited to present the fourth 3D printed series featuring the Char 2C Heavy tank. The rules for the 3D printed sets are identified in Global War 2nd edition as “TDP” sets, followed by a designating letter (A,B,C) etc. for reference. This set is TDPD2 – Our original set contained an L.521 Seaplane that is now sold separately. The rules are written for Global War -2nd edition, yet they are compatible with Global War 1st edition and Axis & Allies 1940. Slight modifications for use with Axis & Allies 1940 are included in Appendix D. Set Contents Base Set Char 2C (x2) 3d Printed in color Blue Rule Set (x1) 2 TDPD 1.0 Char 2C The enormous Char 2C (FCM 2C) was a French, super-heavy tank. The vehicle was developed in the later years of World War I but never saw combat. At 69 tons, this was by far the heaviest tank of its time and remains to date the largest tank ever fielded. The Char 2C had a 75mm main gun and four 8mm machine guns for infantry protection. This slow vehicle was obsolete by the time World War II began. A total of ten tanks were built; thus, this Char 2C would represent an expanded production and upgraded version that would be competitive at the start of World War II. NORTH ESSEX MODELLERS NEWSJuly 2021 Intro The good news is that our return to club meetings this month is ON! Yes, finally something approaching normality returns to our club, with our July meeting happening on July 15, subject to certain conditions which you should see attached to the email accompanying this newsletter. Chiefly this will mean that facemasks are “encouraged”, as per our meetings last summer, whilst we will need to forego our usual arrangement of tables at Stanway Village Hall since under the Hall’s Covid rules it would have put a tight restriction on the number of attendees we were allowed! However, we do not anticipate that our plans for the meeting need to be unduly disrupted, and these comprise another Bring & Buy sale of kits, books and other modelling paraphernalia. Do come along and buy, sell, exchange or otherwise just chat like we all used to do….! For the benefit of those whose familiarity with the club has so far not included meetings (and those who might have forgotten…?) we have Stanway Village Hall booked from 7pm onwards, although the first hour is generally very informal as not everyone is able to arrive at this time. Two tables will be set aside for models that people have brought in: one is for finished models and the other for “work in progress”. At around 8pm we give everyone a chance to say a few words about any models they have brought in, after which we cover any important announcements and move on to whatever special theme we have arranged for the meeting……..which is rather informal in the case of the July meeting, as you will appreciate! Towards the end of the evening, one of the club committee will be handing out slips of paper for everyone to vote for their first, second and third choice from the finished models, with the winner announced once all of the votes have been totted up.

Volume 11, Issue 2, 2009 Baltic Security & Defence Review The French Army in the Interwar Period * By Igors Rajevs, Colonel, Latvian Army Marshal Ferdinand Foch once described Versailles Treaty as “not a peace but an armistice for twenty years.”1 The majority of Frenchmen agreed to the bitter truth that Germany would never accept its defeat. The upcoming war with Germany was expected to be different from World War One. Still, not everybody agreed at the time that future battlefield environment will be so different. The French Army had a need to learn from the lessons of World War One and to adapt those lessons to the possible future challenges of a new war. All the French Army's efforts in legislation, doctrine development, modernization, education and training were conducted in order to prepare it for the future war with Germany. However, it is obvious from events that these preparations were unsuccessful. The aim of this paper is to analyze the development and transformation of the French Army in the interwar period between 1918 and 1939. In light of the known facts on the development of the French Army in the interwar period my question is: How was the transformation of the French Army in the interwar period conducted and what was the effectiveness of this transformation in preparing the French armed forces for the upcoming war? The paper will initially analyze the French policy developments made in order to prepare France for inevitable war with Germany. It will also touch upon the inability of the French government to implement the policy decisions in reality.

French vehicles and guns in 1940 (by Luca Avogaro) Tanks Light tanks FT-17: weight 7 tons, 2 men crew, armed with 1 MMG (Medium Machine Gun) or 1 37mm short gun in turret; the turret was in two versions: the turret produced by Renault had octagonal base; the turret produced by Berliet-Giraud had rounded base. There was also a command tank version without weapons. This tank was utilized since 1917 but still in use in 1940, either gun version or MMG version. R-35: produced by Renault, weight 10 tons, 2 men crew, armed with 1 37mm short gun + 1 coaxial MMG in turret (a small number received the 37mm long gun). R-40: derived from the R-35, this Renault tank had covered wheels and suspensions, like the Somua S-35 tank, and had a more powerful engine; weight 10 tons, 2 men crew, armed with 1 37mm long gun (a small number had the 37mm short gun yet) + 1 coaxial MMG in turret. H-35: produced by Hotchkiss, weight 12 tons, 2 men crew, armed with 1 37mm short gun + 1 coaxial MMG in turret. H-39: derived by the H-35, this tank had a bigger and taller engine box to contain a more powerful engine, weight 12 tons, 2 men crew, armed with 1 37mm long gun + 1 coaxial MMG in turret (some vehicles still had the 37mm short gun).
