Shante Anthony Franklin (born April 4, 1981 in New Orleans, Louisiana), better known by his stage name Curren$y, is an American rapper and former member of the group Fly Society. Previously a member of Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment, he joined the No Limit Records collective as a teenager. After releasing countless free mixtapes online he released his debut album, This Aint No Mixtape on April 21, 2009. Curren$y is also a former member of Master P's rap group 504 Boyz, and has released collaboration mixtapes with Wiz Khalifa and Mack Maine. Curren$y had an underground hit in 2006, Where Da Cash At, which can be heard on several of Lil' Wayne's mixtapes, including Dedication 2. He was featured on Lil Wayne's song "Grown Man" from the album Tha Carter II. Due to certain issues concerning the release of his album Music 2 Fly 2, he left Young Money and formed his Fly Society crew with professional skateboarder and rapper Terry Kennedy. He has since focused on his Jets movement, and worked in New York with Ski Beatz and other MCs at Dame Dash's DD172. He was featured on several songs on Ski Beatz' 24 Hour Karate School. Pilot Talk 2 was released on November 16, 2010. While established acts fight to remain relevant, up and coming artists also squabble to take control of the positions now left vacant by those who came before them. One hungry MC that has a good chance at solidifying a spot is Louisiana native Shante “Curren$y” Franklin —as he debuts with his album, This Ain’t No Mixtape . Although it might not be a mixtape, the cover art is themed after the Grand Theft Auto videogame series, which gives it the appearance of one. Backed by Amalgam Digital [Click here for purchase details], the lyricist with the lazy flow invites familiar names like Young Chris (of Young Gunz fame), Mickey Factz , Amanda Diva , and Bun B to join him on his first official outing. With that said, the former affiliate of both Young Money Entertainment and No Limit gets things started with ‘The Briefing , ’ as a well-placed guitar loop is used to reinsure listeners that his album isn’t a mixtape. From there he makes a strong bid as an artist to pay close attention to with songs like, ‘Get It Ya Self , ’ the stadiums sounds of ‘Blown Away , ’ (which also includes a spin on a Biggie line), and ‘Scared Of Monstas . ’ On ‘Elevator Musik , ’ Amalgam’s newest signee is accompanied by a track that sounds like something you might hear in an elevator, but instead of waiting for the doors to open on his respective floor, he touches on the previous situations that didn’t pan out, “ Google my name, and you can read all about it/no longer No Limit , but a n*gga still bout it/no longer Cash Money , still got fat pockets.” Curren$y gets a little creative on ‘The Jets Son ,’ by rapping behind sampled elements from the Jetsons cartoon theme song, while getting his braggadocio game up. The buzz-worthy MC keeps his momentum going throughout the project with strong production and lyricism to match on contributions like ‘LOL , ’ ‘Sail On’ (feat. Young Chris ) , ‘Up Here , ’ ‘Food 4 Thought’ (feat. Mickey Factz and Amanda Diva ), and ‘16 Switcher Spitter . ’ This Ain’t A Mixtape is indeed not a mixtape, but instead a remarkable showing by an artist trying to etch his way to upper echelons of Hip-Hop, and if he keeps releasing material like this, it won’t be long until that plateau is reached… Curren$y – Welcome To Jet Life Recordings 2 (2021) Tracklist: 01. Where is the beat on "Montreux" in Pilot Talk II from? Or who else sampled it? It sounds so familiar. would love to find a sample for this song. most underrated rapper of all time!! JETS FOOL. These are cool, man. I know we had the thing with the 9th Wonder remixes. But we definitely allow mixtapes from notable rappers. All of Curren$y's projects with the exception of his studio albums: This Ain't No Mixtape, Jet Flies, Pilot Talk and Pilot Talk 2 are unofficial. These need to be cleaned up..

Philadelphia Weekly New Orleans weed-rapper Curren$y has built a large following over the past few years for his mellowed-out rhymes and spacey instrumentals, releasing a string of solid albums and mixtapes at a nearly inhuman rate. Riverfront Times "You also can't argue against the fact that Curren$y's both prolific and consistent, a rare quality if there ever was one." PrefixMag.com "There is not a week that goes by, where his name isn’t either buzzing or trending online, something new drops on the radio, or there is new material available on iTunes." stupidDOPE.com Verde Terrace doesn't break any new territory for Curren$y, but "new territory" isn't really part of his M.O.-- he is digging a groove, one into which he settles more comfortably each year…Curren$y is refining the contours of his tiny universe so that it resembles no one else's. Pitchfork.com, Verde Terrace review (7.3 of 10) Curren$y understands the formula to creating a cult following: consistent, high quality music delivered frequently…Spitta offers an album full of his standard weed, women and clothes that made him the cult icon and fan favorite he is now. Off Beat Magazine, album review Curren$y’s the paradox in the microwave rap argument. Ology.com, mixtape review (3 of 5) With that, Curren$y and his Jets crew add to his ever-growing discography of mixtapes.
