From 1959 to 1985 EKO was the biggest guitar factory in Europe. In 1985, EKO decided to interrupt its main production in Italy and to transfer its pur- chases in foreign countries. EKO established some joint-ventures in China and in the Czech Republic. Today all Eko guitars and amplifiers come from these two countries. EKO kept its “R&D” offices and a small “custom shop” in Italy, where it produces about 100 high quality guitars per year. Today EKO sells its variety of products in Italy and all over the world. Almost all important Italian musicians have at least one or more EKO hand-made guitars. In 1988 EKO also decided to enter in the distribution field and from then onwards every year important brands decide to shift their distribution to EKO confiding in its loyalty, professionality, and structure. Today EKO can proudly consider itself the first distribution reality in Italy with Eko, Esound, Eko Pro, Quik Lok, Opera and Montarbo: the “Eko Music Group”! We have ... • For each Division we have different Division Managers and each one of them is in charge of approx 5 million Euro of sales. • Every Division has its own “history” and organization with its own DM and PS but they share the Accounting, the Marketing Communication & Web and Logistic & Warehouse. • We have a very powerful and professional IT system who can control all sales and accounting in real time. Our warehouse is completely computerized and all the products stocked are labelled and traceable by bar-codes. All our reps are working in all their daily visits with PC equipped by our IT system and they transfer their orders to us by inter- net in real time to our warehouse keepers who prepare all the orders by “handheld PC” also in real time. We normally ship all the orders in 24 hours max. • Our reps in the MI market work on an exclusive basis for E.M.G.. In the other markets (Hi-Fi, Commercial audio and Consumer) we allow our reps to work also with other lines but not in competition with us. • We advertise all our products and spend about 5% of the turn-over of each brand (in pages, shows, clinics, demos, web, etc.). The higher the sales are for a brand the more we spend in advertising. Naturally, when a new brand needs to be introduced we normally do advertise- ment on it in any case. We have a very strong Marketing & Communi- cation dept. • We have our official internet magazine that we send every month two or three times to all our dealers and final users. We have a mailing list with more than 50.000 contacts all connected to the products we sell.

In the Upper Vogtland region, in Germany‘s »Music Corner«. Mu- sical instruments have been produced here in the south of Saxony, close to the borders with Bavaria and the Czech Republic, for more than 350 years. Around 1900, the Vogtland region was widely renowned for its large-scale musical in- strument making, with the capacities to supply whole orchestras and choirs. Impressive townhouses and villas continue to pay testimony to this economic heyday. The prosperity of the region was founded by hundreds of craftsmen who produced not only the musical instruments themselves, but also all the necessary components and accessories. This legacy has been cultivated through to the present day in countless artisan workshops. Alongside, there are many larger companies who similarly work with great manual skill and craft know-how and can thus quite rightly be termed instrument making workshops. Over 100 workshops of all sizes are glad to offer interested visitors an insight into their musical craft, and invite you to discover the birthplace of so many different musical instruments. Tour- ists and music enthusiasts can look over the shoulder of a master craftsman in a number of faithfully recreated demonstration workshops. 4 5 BRASS WIND INSTRUMENT MAKING alf past six in the morning. During the company’s rich history, Framus was responsible for introducing a large number of innovations to the market. In the 1960s, the company went on to become the leading guitar manufacturer of all of Europe. Clearly, it was not without reason that Bill Wyman, Peter Kraus, Bill Lawrence a.k.a. Billy Lorento, Jim Hall, Attila Zoller, Charles Mingus, Eberhard Weber and Volker Kriegel all swore by instruments manufactured by Framus. Our goal for the Framus Vintage series is to make the most interesting vintage models manufactured in the tradition-steeped Framus factory buildings in Erlbach and Bubenreuth come to life once again. The result is quality instruments crafted in Asia that are manufactured carbon neutral, and conjure up the classic spirit of Framus once more. Wherever possible, all Framus models come with hardware and pickups crafted according to original specifications. This results in an authentic vintage feel, beautiful looks, and of course, true vintage tone. The Framus Vintage series radiates pure vintage cool for lovers of traditionally-styled guitars originating from the heyday of rock’n’roll and jazz! We have every reason to be proud of Framus’ rich tradition.

  • Framus Archtop Guitar Restoration & Repair. Nov 2017
Framus Archtop Guitar Restoration & Repair. Nov 2017 This Framus archtop was literally coming apart at the seams. Photo 1: Serial number 28909-G53 is stamped on the back of the headstock which indicates that it dates from July 1953. Although the last digit is possibly a badly stamped number 8; giving a more likely production year of 1958. There is no model number or name identified anywhere on it. It looks very much like a 5/50 or 5/51. Originally it had a scratch-guard but that has been lost, leaving only the mounting holes in the side of the neck & body. At some time it had been fitted with a neck-mounted pick-up. There are witness holes on both sides of the fingerboard where it was mounted & there is a hole for a jack socket in the side of the lower bout. Photo 2: The back was pulling loose most of the way around the body. Photo 3: The front & binding had lifted around the lower bout. Framus Archtop Restoration - Page 1 of 9 www.jwluthierservices.co.uk ©2017 Photo 4: The neck heel had shrunk back from the body leaving a gap at the end of the heel. Photo 5: The tuners worked but some were quite stiff to turn & others were bent. Also some of the knobs were splitting. Photo 6: Only 2 of the tuners had their bushes. The others had no support & so the pull of the strings was deflecting the shafts & causing the holes in the head to be worn out of shape.
