Many people have worked countless hours over these past ten years to make HHF the solid community organization that it is. Pursuing its purpose with much success, HHF continues to promote the preservation of architectural structures and historic sites throughout Huntsville and Madison County, and to increase public awareness of their value to the community. The sale of the HHF cookbook, "Huntsville Entertains", is an on-going project with the proceeds benefitting local preservation. An order blank for this excellent cookbook is located on the last page of the Quarterly, along with a membership application form.     Historic Preservation Element – Draft June 23, 2019 Prepared by the Cranford Historic Preservation Advisory Board Copyright 2019 – All rights reserved Section I – Executive Summary The Historic Preservation Element (HPE) provides background and rationale for the preservation of Cranford’s architectural and land resources in the context of the Master Plan. It lays out the objectives of preservation, the town’s history, and a review of the historical resources that have been identified and previously described, as well as those that need to be examined further. It also presents the current issues facing Cranford, and some future preservation proposals. The town of Cranford as we know it started as Crane’s Ford, part of the West Fields of New Jersey, in the early 1700’s. Development really began in the 1860’s, and the town grew from the area near the railroad in what is now downtown. Large estates at the end of the 19th century gave way to denser neighborhoods with their own character as the 20th century progressed. Some of these estates and neighborhoods still exist and have been listed and described in Phase 1 Cranford Historic Resources Survey, completed in November 2016 by the Cranford Historic Preservation Advisory Board. This survey,which summarizes studies that have been done in the past, along with other documents about Cranford, serves as a basis for assessing Cranford’s historical and architectural resources and how they can fit in with the future direction and development of the town. The 2009 Master Plan contained a short section on historic preservation within the Land Use section, and the Township Code Section 6, Part 4 outlines the duties and powers of the Historic Preservation Advisory Board.

Thompson and Carolyn Cloyd Coles County Historic Preservation Advisory Council April 2018 i Executive Summary The following document is the master National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) nomination form, which was submitted in a draft version to the Illinois State Historic Preservation Officer on 29 June 2017 for the Lumpkin Heights and Elm Ridge Subdivision Historic District (the District) located in the southeast quadrant of the city of Mattoon, Illinois. This NRHP document addresses the District’s historic significance regarding residential development and architectural resources within the broader historic contexts of the city of Mattoon. The research of the associated contexts and the preparation of the NRHP nomination form was undertaken by Coles County Historic Preservation Advisory Council members Stephen A. Thompson and Carolyn Cloyd, with the assistance of numerous past and contemporary District residents and other interested parties. The Coles County Historic Preservation Advisory Council is an historic preservation advisory body under the Coles County Regional Planning & Development Commission, which reports to the Coles County Board.
