The annual program is designed to recognize women who not only have achieved personal success but also contribute to bettering the communities in which they work and live. Addition- ally, they play an active role in mentoring the younger generation of businesspeople. Nominations for the award are solicited from previous winners, as well as economic develop- ment agencies, chambers of commerce, women’s organizations and the business community at large each year from May through January. For this year’s awards, 370 nominations were re- ceived. Each nominee is asked to supply an application outlining her educational and career history, professional and community involvement, and corporate and nonprofit board membership. Nominees also are asked to provide a letter of reference. After a preliminary round of judging, a panel of seven judges – including previous Top 100 Women honorees and Maryland business leaders – selected the 2014 Top 100 Women. Sixty- three women are first-time winners of the award. Fifteen women are being inducted into the Circle of Excellence. Circle of Excellence honorees will receive the award for a third and final time. It is the purpose of this magazine to better acquaint you with these 100 exceptional people. The public had the chance to meet them all in person on Monday, May 5 at the Joseph Meyer- hoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, where the awards were distributed and the women were cel- Suzanne E.
