Clark is endemic to the Sneeuberg Centre of Floristic Endemism, Eastern Cape, South Africa. This resprouter is characterised by its small greenish-white flowers with a small trifid purple nectar patch and translucent veins; 5(–7)-pin- nate leaflets; multi-branching erect short seasonal flowering shoots; and tall habit of many stiff bare stems with the seasonal shoots massed at the apex. It is most similar to P. oligophylla Eckl. & Zeyh., a widespread species found in the Eastern Cape. The reseeder P. oligophylla differs in its lax virgate spreading habit with numerous long glaucous seasonal shoots; single stem, 1(–3)- glaucous leaflets; more numerous white flow- ers; and standard petals with a purple ring surrounding a bright yellow nectar patch. -

The flowering plants were collected, preserved, identified and classified. All together 12 species belonging to 12 genera of 9 families were included. Among them,Aristolochia tagala Cham., Boscia variabilis (Kurz) Coll. & Hensl Paederia tomentosa Blume, Myriopteron paniculatum Griff, Streptocaulon tomentosum Wight & Arn and Sterculia versicolor Wall. are medicinal plants, Bombax anceps Pierre Abstract andErythrina microcarpa Kurz &Vahl are valuable trees, Blinkworthia lycioides Choisy, Ceropegia lucida Wall. and Kalancho laciniata (L.) Pers. are valuable species for ornamental purposes. Aristolochia tagala Cham. is under the basal angiosperms, and the rest species are under the clade eudicot. The description of the collected species with figures, Scientific names, Myanmar names, and flowering period have been mentioned. An artificial key to the species was also constructed and stated. Fynbos Biome Project: Second Annual Research Meeting I"'\~O
NATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES (TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEMS) NP14/l06/9L/S FYNBOS BIOME PROJECT: SECOND ANNUAL RESEARCH MEETING I"'\~O INTRODUCTION The Fynbos Biome Project has as one of its principal objectives the integration and coordination of ecological research within the biome. Formal coordination at an inter-organizational level is provided by the Steering Committee while informal contact between field workers is maintained through workshop meetings, seminar, etc. As the project develops, annual research meetings will be needed to bring all parties together for an exchange of progress reports, research plans and the review of programme goals. The second such meeting is planned for Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 July 1980, at the conference facilities of the Food and Fruit Technology Research Institute, Stellenbosch. FORM OF MEETING The meeting will consist of a series of approximately one hour sessions addressing specific topics. Each researcher currently undertaking, or planning to undertake a project within the theme, will be asked to present a 10 minute summary of his/her plans or progress. At the end of each session the Chairman will lead discussion on the overall aims of the topic under review, related to existing and future activities within it. DOCUMENTATION Every listed participant will be asked to prepare, in English or Afrikaans, an abstract (IlSO words) of his/her proposed contribution for compilation and distribution before the meeting. These should be submitted to the Liaison Officer, Fynbos Biome Project, c/o Department of Organic Chemistry, University of Cape Town, Rondebosch, 7700. PARTICIPATION All researchers already associated with the Fynbos Biome Project and those who are interested to learn more about its activities are welcome to attend. -

Blume) รองลงมา คือ เสี้ยวป่า (Bauhinia saccocalyx Pierre) และแดง (Xylia xylocarpa (Roxb.) W. Theob. var. kerrii (Craib & Hutch.) I.C. Nielsen) ตามล าดับ ส่วนไม้ต้นชนิดที่มีค่าดัชนีความส าคัญสูงที่สุด คือ เสี้ยวป่า ติ้วเกลี้ยง และแดง ตามล าดับ ค่าดัชนี ความหลากหลายของไม้ต้น มีค่าเท่ากับ 3.6656 ค่าความสม่ าเสมอในการกระจายตัว มีค่าเท่ากับ 0.7995 ค่าความหลากหลาย มีค่าเท่ากับ 39.0785 นอกจากนั้นพบว่ามีไม้พื้นล่าง จ านวน 61 วงศ์ 137 สกุล 145 ชนิด ไม้พื้นล่างชนิดที่พบมากที่สุด ได้แก่ พลูช้าง (Scindapus officinalis -

Both species display the following floral structures: style-head bearing pollen translators, shelf-like nectaries, staminal feet, nectar-collecting troughs, trisegmented corolline corona lobes and corolla lobes, and anthers and nectaries covered by unicellular hairs. Lateral segments of adjacent corona lobes are fused with half of the adaxial base of the adjacent corolla lobes, creating openings through which pollinators can reach the nectar-collecting troughs in the corolla base. Flowers are rotate with spreading corolla lobes and exposed gynostegium, thus sorting in the open-access fly pollination system. The following features are useful to distinguish the flowers of the two species: corolla color, presence or absence of long unicellular hairs and white spots size on the adaxial surface of corolla lobes, translator length, pollen tetrads color, and presence or absence of linear tetrads. It seems that the floral modifications of the two Periploca species serve to optimize pollination efficiency by attracting a wide number of pollinators, thus enhancing the pollination success of plants. -
