Bolsover District Council: R. Gadsby (Customer Service and Improvement), R. Knightley (Partnership and Communications) Cllr Mary Dooley (Deputy Leader BDC), Cllr Emma Stevenson (BDC), Cllr Tom Munro (BDC Chair). Chair: Shirebrook Academy. 1. HOUSEKEEPING AND APOLOGIES The Youth Council were reminded of the Housekeeping requirements of the Arc. Apologies were received from Stubbin Wood School, Tibshelf School and Jon Tipton (Extreme Wheels). The chair asked the youth councillors to make sure that they have signed the register. 2. ICE-BREAKER An icebreaker exercise was organised by Shirebrook Academy in which a ball was thrown between Youth Councillors in a circle who had to say something they liked using the first letter of their names. 3. MINUTES OF LAST MEETING Agreed – the minutes of the Young Voice meeting held on the 13/11/17 be approved as a correct and accurate record. 4. MEET THE COUNCILLOR Q&A (EMMA STEVENSON) Cllr. Emma Stevenson gave the Youth Councillors an insight to her journey as a Councillor. She gave a background of how she became a councillor and the etiquette was required to have. Cllr. Stevenson gave information to the youth councillors about PUBLIC voting and how this has changed over time, she spoke about UNIONS and the different types of councils that are responsible for different things. -

Career Education, Information, Advice and Guidance Policy 1. Introduction 1.1 The Two Counties Trust works in collaboration with different schools in the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire area to provide a comprehensive Careers Service to years 7-13. 2. Aim 2.1 Our aim is to provide an outstanding service to help prepare students in the local community for the next transition into Higher Education, Apprenticeship, Further Education or Employment. 3. Vision 3.1 Our ultimate goal is to provide students with transferable skills and a good understanding of Employability. By 2021 we aim to ensure all students are prepared for the world of work and have a good understanding of how they are able to achieve future Career goals. We will work with local companies and providers to ensure that all students will have at least 1 interaction with an employer for every year they are in education, they will receive at least 1 Careers Guidance appointment by the age of 16 and at least 2 by the age of 18’. 4. Careers Leaders 4.1 Each school has two named Careers Leaders who are contactable to discuss the provision we have in place. Contact details are found at Appendix 1 5. Our Commitment 5.1 The Two Counties Trust is committed to providing a planned programme of careers education for all students in years 7-13 and information, advice, and guidance (IAG). 5.2 In a highly competitive employment market choices students make are taking on new levels of complexity. This requires a planned programme of careers education, information, advice, and guidance (CEIAG) that allows students to develop the skills for employability, which develops their knowledge, skills and understanding to make well- informed and realistic decisions about their future in learning and work and which encourages young people to aspire and to make successful transitions and achieve positive progression 5.3 The Two Counties Trust Careers Team endeavours to follow the Careers Education framework 7-19 (DCSF 2010) and other relevant guidance from the DCSF, DfE and more recently The Gatsby Benchmark requirements. -

Impact of Building Schools for the Future announcement of Monday 5 July 2010 1. This list sets out the impact on schools of the announcement on Building Schools for the Future (BSF) made by the Secretary of State for Education on Monday 5 July 2010. It has been produced by Partnerships for Schools (PfS) after validation at senior level in Local Authorities and rigorously checked by the Department for Education, including by making telephone contact with every Local Authority listed and with all affected Academy sponsors. 2. This process of checking has been necessary because of the complexity of the BSF process, to ensure the accuracy of this list and, in particular, because, to date, PfS has collected data from Local Authorities about BSF schools as they progressed. Rather than micromanaging individual schools, PfS has relied on Local Authority-level information. 3. All Local Authorities which were participating in BSF are listed, plus those who have had one school pathfinders or academies built or being built through the Partnerships for Schools Academies Framework. That is 102 Local Authorities out of a total of 152. And every school which was included within a Local Authority project is listed and is categorised as either ‘open’, ‘unaffected’, ‘for discussion’ or ‘stopped’. 1592 schools are listed in total. 159 are categorised as ‘open’, 547 as ‘unaffected’, 151 as ‘for discussion’ and 735 as ‘stopped’. 4. For simplicity, and because large numbers of pupils cross constituency boundaries to attend school, this list does not provide a breakdown of schools by constituency. 5. 2010 / 2011 No 13 June 2011 Memories of Year 13’s Celebration Day Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Governor colleagues The exam season is well underway and I want to congratulate all the students who have taken exams so far. Their commitment to their studies, and their behaviour in exams, has been exemplary. This is the case, from Year 10’s (taking their GCSE units for the very first time) to Year 13’s who are veterans of taking exams in this school. We wish all our students taking external exams every success and wish all those students who still have exams to take—all the very best. If you require any information about the exam timetable or the examinations rules and regulations, then please access the information on the school’s website. I am most grateful to the staff at the school who have given up lots of their time to ensure that students are well prepared for their exams. This will continue right up until the end of the very last exam. I would like to wish a warm welcome to my new PA, Mrs Mary Johnson- Evans who joined the school on 6th June. We wish her every success in her new role. I am very pleased to be able to report individual success stories for students. As you can see from the newsletter, we have a budding golfer, we have Scott Chapman in Year 8 who has won a national prize for his entrepreneurship for the second year in a row, and we have two Year 12 students who have won prizes at Young Enterprise. -

There Will Be a Flash-Mob Performance of All Three Songs at Tesco In
Preparations are well under way for the Namibia 2016 expedition students, who depart for their trip of a lifetime in just a matter of weeks, on 19th July! In April, the five lucky Year 10 participants took part in a really successful teambuilding training weekend. They joined forces with students from three other North Derbyshire schools who will be joining them on their adventure. Students will live for the entirety of their two-week stay in tents, so in preparation, pupils from Shirebrook Academy, Stubbin Wood School, Heritage High School, Tibshelf School and Frederick Gent School camped out on two cold evenings at Drumhill Scout Camp, and learned how to stay safe and what to do in case they come face to face with a wild animal.
