The first FD hit the water late 1951 in Loosdrecht (). Mr Gülcher had many international sailing connections and promoted the boat intensively causing the class to grow very quickly In 1952 the FD was excepted by the IYRU as and also in 1952 the International FD Class Organization (IFDCO) was established. Shortly after the Dutch Class Organization (NFDO) was established and is the oldest Class Organization in the Netherlands. In 1962 there were fleets of FD 36 countries, spread all over the world. After winning the trails with ao 505 the FD became Olympic class in 1960 and stayed Olympic until 1992. The is still considered to be the formula 1 under the conventional sailing The boat is easy to but due to it's may trim options it is difficult and requires extensive training to get the maximum speed out .

Hornet: Website: The Hornet was Jack Holt’s favorite design. This is from the that designed the , GP14, , , , , etc.

The Hornet is shown by to be quicker than a or Olympic 470 it's ‘slim easily-driven ’ is unique in performance sailing dinghies and allows the boat to be driven hard upwind with the ability to plane to windward

The Hornet outlasts many of its rivals by years and years - you don’t have to buy a new boat every two years to stay at the top – 20 year old can still be made competitive and do win championships.

Symmetric boats are more challenging to sail than asymmetric, but don’t let that put off mixed crews – don’t forget symmetrical boats are good in estuaries and where there is strong current as they have a better range of fast direction than an asymmetric. The association owns the rights to the design.....commercial enterprise can’t suddenly decide to stop making them and devalue your boat in seconds or make a new batch that is faster than the earlier boats. Hornets can be adapted as sailing, materials and fittings progress.

Flying Junior: Designed as training boat for the FD Website: NFJO

The International or FJ is a sailing dinghy which was originally designed in 1955 in the Netherlands by renowned boat designer Van Essen and Olympic Conrad Gülcher. The FJ was built to serve as a training boat for the then Olympic-class Flying Dutchman. The FJ has a beam of 4'11" and an overall sail area of 100 square feet (9.3 m2). These dimensions make the FJ an ideal class to teach young the skills of boat handling and racing. In 1960 the Flying Junior formed its own class organization and by the early 1970s the Flying Junior was accorded the status of an International Class by the International Racing Union, the precursor to the International Sailing Federation. This status indicates that the class applies to strongly restricted class rules and holds regularly scheduled international regattas.
