TENNIS NEW ZEALAND ANNUAL REPORT 2014 - 2015 3

PRESIDENT & CEO REPORT If last year was to be described as a year of implementation in Participation, Coaching and Performance then the 2014-15 year can be described as the year of achivements.

It is with a great deal of satisfaction that we reflect on committed to achieving its four 2020 Strategic Objectives, the outcomes achieved throughout the 2014/2015 year. namely: In all operational areas, we have continued to build on the momentum achieved throughout the 2013/2014 year with the implementation of our three foundation Participation: strategies of Participation; Coaching; and Performance. 200,000 participants This year, we have also recorded a pleasing financial Coaching: result underpinned by positive growth in commercial 200 professional coaches sponsorship and TAB levies. FINANCE During the 2013/2014 year, we moved our annual balance date from 30 April to 30 June meaning the 2014 accounts detailed in the financial report are for a period of 14 months compared to this year’s 12 months, making direct comparisons difficult. When extracting comparative figures for the 12 months ending 30 June 2015 from the 2014 accounts, however, we can report the following: • Income for the 12 months to 30 June 2015 was up $97,153 or 4% on the same period in 2014 with expenditure down $22,015 or -0.92% for the same period. The resulting operating surplus of $122,111 was up $119,168 on 2014. A strong increase in commercial sponsorship and TAB levies and tight controls on expenditure has contributed to this year’s solid financial performance. • After depreciation of $51,984, we have recorded a net surplus of $70,544, up $115,320 on the comparative year’s net deficit of -$44,777. We have been working very closely with Tennis New Zealand on a number of ongoing issues from MOU between us to new policies regarding weather, more specifically heat issues that can occur at any of our tournaments and the health and wellbeing of players and officials need to be looked after. Since around October 2014 TNZ and NZTUA have been looking at ways to officially implement such guidelines and policies while in the meantime continuing to use the policy of common sense when it comes to deciding whether or not to bring players of court due to conditions of heat. This report is made solely to the Members, as a body, in accordance with Section 18 of the Constitution. Our audit has been undertaken so that we might state to the Members those matters we are required to state to them in an auditor’s report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the Members, as a body, for our audit work, for this report, or for the opinions we have formed. Board of Director’s Responsibility for the Financial Statements The Board of Directors is responsible for the preparation and fair presentation of financial statements, in accordance with Old GAAP which comprises Financial Reporting Standards (FRSs) and Statements of Standard Accounting Practice (SSAPs) and Differential Reporting Recognition, Measurement and Disclosure Concessions and generally accepted accounting practice in New Zealand, and for such internal control as the Board of Directors determine is necessary to enable the preparation of financial statements that are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error. Auditor’s Responsibilities Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audit. We conducted our audit in accordance with International Standards on Auditing and International Standards on Auditing (New Zealand). Those standards require that we comply with ethical requirements and plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free from material misstatement. An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. The procedures selected depend on the auditor’s judgement, including the assessment of the risks of material misstatement of the financial statements, whether due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers internal control relevant to the entity’s preparation and fair presentation of the financial statements in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity’s internal control. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of the accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates, as well as the overall presentation of the financial statements. We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our audit opinion. Other than in our capacity as auditor and the provision of an agreed upon procedures engagement, we have no relationship with or interests in Tennis New Zealand Incorporated. Opinion In our opinion, the financial statements on pages 41 to 47 present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of Tennis New Zealand Incorporated as at 30 June 2015, and its financial performance for the period ended on that date in accordance with Old GAAP which comprises Financial Reporting Standards (FRSs) and Statements of Standard Accounting Practice (SSAPs) and Differential Reporting Recognition, Measurement and Disclosure Concessions and generally accepted accounting practice in New Zealand.
