Chapitre VI La ville et ses équipements collectifs Introduction L'intérêt accordé à la connaissance du milieu urbain et de ses équipements collectifs suscite un intérêt croissant, en raison de l’urbanisation accélérée que connaît le pays, et de son effet sur les équipements et les dysfonctionnements liés à la répartition des infrastructures. Pour résorber ce déséquilibre et assurer la satisfaction des besoins, le développement d'un réseau d'équipements collectifs appropriés s'impose. Tant que ce déséquilibre persiste, le problème de la marginalisation sociale, qui s’intensifie avec le chômage et la pauvreté va continuer à se poser La politique des équipements collectifs doit donc occuper une place centrale dans la stratégie de développement, particulièrement dans le cadre de l’aménagement du territoire. La distribution spatiale de la population et par conséquent des activités économiques, est certes liée aux conditions naturelles, difficiles à modifier. Néanmoins, l'aménagement de l'espace par le biais d'une politique active peut constituer un outil efficace pour mettre en place des conditions favorables à la réduction des disparités. Cette politique requiert des informations fiables à un niveau fin sur l'espace à aménager. La présente étude se réfère à la Base de données communales en milieu urbain (BA.DO.C) de 1997, élaborée par la Direction de la Statistique et concerne le niveau géographique le plus fin à savoir les communes urbaines, qui constituent l'élément de base de la décentralisation et le cadre d'application de la démocratie locale. Au recensement de 1982, était considéré comme espace urbain toute agglomération ayant un minimum de 1 500 habitants et qui présentait au moins quatre des sept conditions énumérées en infra1. -

REVIEW ARTICLE IUCN Red Listed Medicinal Plants of Siddha Divya Kallingilkalathil Gopi, Rubeena Mattummal, Sunil Kumar Koppala Narayana*, Sathiyarajeshwaran Parameswaran Siddha Central Research Institute, (Central Council for Research in Siddha, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India), Arumbakkam, Chennai 600106, India. *Correspondence: E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT Introduction: Siddha system which aims at both curative and preventive aspects is a holistic treatment methodology using herbals, metals, minerals and animal products. Medicinal plant conservation is one of global concerns because the consequence is loss of many species useful in the primary healthcare of mankind. These natural resources are dwindling, as nearly 80 to 85% of raw drugs are sourced from the wild. International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it. IUCN congresses have produced several key international environmental agreements like the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) etc. It is noted that raw drugs for making a good number of Siddha formulations are derived from plants falling under IUCN’s rare, endangered and threatened (RET) category. The current study is aimed at exploring the RET status of medicinal plants used in Siddha. Method: The data of medicinal plants used in various Siddha formulations and as single drugs were collected and the IUCN status of the plants was checked in the Red list. Result: Siddha medicinal plants like Aconitum heterophyllum, Aquilaria malaccensis, Adhatoda beddomei, Nardostachys jatamansi are some of the examples of critically endangered species of plants facing threat due to continuous exploitation from wild. -

454 Characterization of Small Ruminant Breeds in North Africa Chapter Two Small Ruminant Breeds of Morocco Ismail Boujenane Institut Agronomique et Vétérinaire Hassan II, Rabat, Morocco Introduction Agriculture plays an important role in Morocco. According to official statistics, there are 8.7 million hectares of agricultural land of which 14.4% are irrigated, 5 million are forest, and 23 million are pasture (Ministere de l’Agriculture 1998). Depending on climatic conditions, agriculture, including forestry and deep-sea fishing, annually contributes between 12% and 24% to the national GDP. In 1998, the country’s GDP was US$35,546 million and the agricultural GDP was around US$5,688 million (Secrétariat d’Etat à la Population 1999). Agriculture also employs 3.4 million people, which represents 40% of the total active population, and 76% of the rural active population (Ministere des Plans 1994). Livestock is one of the most important components of agriculture. Its contribu- tion to the agricultural GDP ranges from 20% to 25%. It employs 20% of the active rural population and secures the industry and artisanal sectors with products such as milk, meat, wool, and skins. Moreover, animal products represent 35% of total food consumption. Livestock production is practiced on 1,100,123 farms, representing 74% of the total number of agricultural farms (1,496,349 farms) (Ministere de l’Agriculture 1998). Small ruminants have an important economic and social role. Their estimated contribution to the country’s GDP varies from 1.5% to 2%. There are 781,563 farms practicing sheep production, representing 52% of all agricultural farms and 71% of all livestock farms (all species).
