The creation of the new platform has been led by the council’s adult social care, health and housing team to help ensure people of all ages and abilities are able to access information on the activities and support available locally to meet their needs and interests. It is a comprehensive online guide so people can easily find things to do, organisations which can support them or simply help them to meet like-minded people. Features include a community map so residents can find events and social groups available locally, a wellbeing planner to allow people to identify how they can improve their wellbeing and a search tool for those looking for a particular activity. Bracknell Forest Help Yourself also supports people with social care needs as information is available on agencies which provide support at home, businesses that can deliver meals and registered care homes for people who no longer feel able to live in their own home. The website has been launched as part of the council’s transformation programme which aims to empower residents to take control of their health and wellbeing. It also allows local voluntary groups and charities to showcase how they can support members of the community and increase participation. Bracknell Forest Help Yourself will replace the council’s current information hub (iHub) as the go-to place for information on what’s on in your local area, however it is not intended to be a council run and managed platform. Our locking cooker valve helps people with dementia retain their independence at home and provides reassurance to family, friends and carers. The simple safety device is fitted to existing gas cooker pipework. When the valve is locked, the gas supply to the cooker is stopped. This eliminates the risk of the cooker being unintentionally turned on or left on, and gives peace of mind to the carer or relative that the cooker can’t be used when they leave the house or the room. The carer or relative can easily turn the valve on using the key when the cooker is required, enabling the person with dementia to continue to use their gas cooker safely. We offer this free service across the south of England and Scotland. To find out more about our locking cooker valve or to make a referral, please visit our website: sgn.co.uk/LCV.
