Of Interest House of Memories app My House of Memories app allows you to explore objects from the past and share memories together. It can be used by anyone, but has been designed for, and with, people living with dementia and their carers. The app has pictures of objects from across the decades, which are brought to life with sound, music and descriptions, and provide an easy-to-use way to help people living with dementia explore things that resonate with them. You can browse the objects, which include everyday things such as cinema tickets, a Singer sewing machine and a 10 shilling note. You can save your favourite objects to a digital memory tree, digital memory box or timeline. Rallyround Rally Round is a free and secure online tool that allows family members, friends and carers to organise support for someone they care about. Members in someone’s Rally Round group, including the person them- selves, are able to add tasks which need doing such as shopping, DIY and social activities. Members can then choose to take on these tasks and click to show when they are completed. Text and email alerts remind everyone what needs doing, who is doing what and when things need to be done.

Residents of Bracknell Forest are able to set this up for free. Website: www.rallyroundme.com

Picture Guess App An app that’s been specifically designed to provide cognitive stimulation for people living with dementia. This can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store (iPad only) and Google Play (just search for ‘Picture Guess’)

Storii App Storii was created to help families and care workers in residential care settings create per- sonalised life stories for people living with dementia. Families are able to use the platform to share family photos and other media. Care staff can log in and show residents what has been uploaded to their account and run reminiscence sessions to track what is useful for improving a resident's level of happiness and wellbeing. The app is free to use – further information can be found at: https://www.storii.com/ 9 10 Of Interest

The Triangle of Care, Carers Included: A Guide to

Best Practice in Mental Health Care in

Berkshire Health Care Foundation Trust (BHFT) uses the guidance from the Triangle of Care to ensure carers feel included and well supported.

The Triangle of Care is based on six principles that mental health trusts can use to include and support carers: 1. Carers, and the essential role they play, are identified at first contact or as soon as possible thereafter. 2. Staff are carer aware and trained in carer engagement strategies. 3. Policy and practice protocols regarding confidentiality and sharing information are in place. 4. Defined post(s) responsible for carers are in place. 5. A carer introduction to the service and staff is available, with a relevant range of information across the care pathway. 6. A range of carer support services is available along with a self-assessment tool.

The Triangle of Care delivers many benefits including recognition for you as a carer. This can help you feel that there is an appreciation of your unique knowledge about the person you care for. Emotional and practical support can be offered to help you feel better able to cope with your caring role. When professionals recognise the support that you are giving and see you as a key partner in care, then the person you care for is more likely to receive better care. The Triangle of Care is an initiative by Carers Trust. With local Network Partners, Carers Trust works to improve support, services and recognition for carers in communities across the UK To find out more about Carers Trust, tel: 0844 800 4361 email: in- [email protected] or www.carers.org Carers Trust 2012 30 31 Carers
