Year 11 students may return to school on Wednesday 17th February 2021 for face-to-face (F2F) lessons in preparation for their oral language examinations. Once the oral examinations are over the situation will be reassessed. 2. All other Year Groups are required to continue with on-line lessons for a further period of four weeks from this date, unless otherwise advised. 3. The School will undertake a weekly review of the situation to assess the success or otherwise of the scheme for Y11 students and also to help decide when other students can return. 4. Once the School decides that other Year Groups may return to school, parents will be informed 1 week in advance. 5. Sri KL’s target date for the return of other Year Groups is the middle of March 2021. Kindly note, this assumes that the MoE will actually allow all other Year Groups to return to school before the end of Semester One. At this point in time, all other Year Groups have been instructed to study at home. 6. In addition to this delayed return to school, Sri KL will most likely adopt a circuit- breaker approach employing a “one week on, one week off” system for all Year Groups except Y11 for the remainder of Semester One 2021. More details will follow at the appropriate time. 7. Please note, the above plans are still subject to Government policies and directives and may be over-ruled or may be required to change at short notice. 1 A BRIEF SUMMARY OF REASONS FOR OUR CURRENT COURSE OF ACTION We have formulated our current plan based on, • Official Government policy including current guidelines and directives from the Health and Education Ministries; • The results of the Sri KL parent and staff questionnaires; • Our assessment of the significant risk posed by Covid-19 infection to our staff and students based on the scientific evidence put forward by experts in the field of public healthcare; • Our assessment of the probable time-frame for vaccinations in Malaysia; • Continuous monitoring of the infection rate for Selangor and KL; • A wide review of creative proposals by various stakeholders for the return of students; • The prioritisation of Y11 students sitting for oral and written IGCSE exams in 2021, the majority of whom wish to return to school for uninterrupted F2F lessons; • The need to avoid intermittent forced closure and reopening of Primary or Secondary School due to frequent but non-concurrent cases of infection amongst students and/or staff; • The consequential need for a system that will be robust in the face of possible positive cases in the Sri KL community, ie. the adoption of the circuit-breaker “one week on, one week off” system. A significant number of parents (approximately 56%) took the time to answer the School’s Covid-19 questionnaire giving us valuable feedback on your feelings over the return of your children to school. Thank you to all participants. With this in mind, we are keenly aware that the decision to allow Y11 students back to school and to continue with on-line lessons for other Year Groups will be welcome to some but will be disappointing to others. As such, we sincerely apologise to all parents and students who were hoping for different outcomes. However, as a school with finite resources and a high duty of care to observe, we believe we must err on the side of caution. Clearly, we must also avoid a scenario whereby in attempting to please everyone we end up pleasing no one. We hope you can continue to be patient for a little while longer. In the meantime, parents with children in Year 11 should now read the attached section of this circular entitled Semester One 2021: Scheme For the Return of Y11 Students. *** 2 Finally, we would like to wish all our parents and students a peaceful and happy Chinese New Year as we look forward to a better, safer and more prosperous time for everyone in the Year of the Ox. Thank you for your continued co-operation and please stay safe. The Board of Management of Sri Kuala Lumpur 3 SEMESTER ONE 2021: SCHEME FOR THE RETURN OF Y11 STUDENTS Parents with children in Year 11 please take note: ❖ The date for the physical return of Y11 students is Wednesday 17th February 2021. ❖ All Y11 students are encouraged to return to school in order to prepare for the IGCSE oral examinations UNLESS they or persons in their immediate household have an underlying health issue that places them at greater risk due to the effects of Covid-19 infection. ❖ The School will take all precautions necessary to make the campus and surrounding area safe for students to return. ❖ Y11 teachers considered to be at higher risk, and who choose not to return to school, will deliver their lessons to the class via Google Classroom. ❖ Government SOPs relating to students and staff in school will be strictly applied. ❖ Lunch and tea break will be provided following MoE guidelines. ❖ The subject timetable together with details of drop-off/pick-up times and locations will be made available to students prior to their return. ❖ In the event of any positive cases subsequently occurring in returning staff or Y11 students, affected classes will be closed, on-line learning will resume and students will be required to self-isolate for 14 days. ❖ Students who are required to self-isolate must produce a negative Covid-19 test prior to returning to school. ❖ Sanitisation of affected classes and common areas will be performed by in-house staff. ❖ Non-affected classes will continue with F2F lessons. ❖ IMPORTANT: If half of the total number of Y11 classes are simultaneously forced to close OR total Y11 student attendance drops below 50%, then ALL Y11 classes will automatically revert to on-line lessons until further notice. ❖ Once IGCSE oral examinations have been completed in March, the School will reassess the need for F2F classes and may revert to on-line lessons again depending on the prevailing conditions. For Y11 students now wishing to return to school for F2F lessons, ❖ Parent/Guardians must first complete and submit the Sri KL Parent Declaration Form (DF) which will be sent to you via Google Forms three days before the start of school. ❖ Students whose parents/guardians are unable to meet the requirements set out in the DF will not be allowed to enter school. ❖ Students returning to school must bring a copy of their submitted DF to school which will be cross-checked at the main gate before entry is allowed. ❖ As long as Y11 classes continue to be held at school, parents/guardians shall be required to update and resubmit the DF on a weekly basis to allow their children to attend F2F classes. 4 For Y11 students who do not wish to return to school for F2F lessons, ❖ Hybrid classes will be made available to students on a best effort basis. ❖ As such, students will log into a broadcast of the physical lesson via Google Classroom and follow the lesson from home. ❖ In this regard, teachers will use microphones and network-connected tablets /laptops for “chalk and talk” explanations together with slides and other visual aids projected directly onto whiteboards. ❖ In the event of any internet disruption, students staying at home will receive updates and notes from their teacher for the affected lesson in question later that same day. FINAL REMINDER: Do not let your child attend school if they or anyone in your immediate household shows any symptoms of Covid-19 and ask them to seek medical advice if symptoms persist. THANK YOU 5 .
