  • Why the Cookie Monster Should Never Become the Veggie Monster… a Classical Argument
Why the Cookie Monster should never become the Veggie Monster… A Classical Argument “Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?” Hearing the lyrics and the tune seems nostalgic and reminds us of simpler times: our childhood. While Sesame Street may only be intended for three or four year olds, Jim Henson’s ragtag group of puppets has made a mark on America’s pop culture over the years. We see fashion retailers selling t-shirts with the face of Elmo or Cookie Monster upon them and we have chuckled at the various parody videos of Sesame Street characters on YouTube. However, after such a long legacy, can you imagine if our beloved characters were changed? What if your own child was subjected to the image of Veggie Monster instead of Cookie Monster? In light of recent struggle to fight childhood obesity, many have advocated to change the Cookie Monster character to the Veggie Monster in order to encourage more children to eat healthy. I propose, while their intention may be well mannered, Sesame Street, and more specifically Cookie Monster is not the right avenue to express these opinions and the Cookie Monster should remain the Cookie Monster. While we have only discussed the general popularity of Sesame Street, we have yet to even discuss Cookie Monster, himself. Cookie Monster with his voracious appetite proves to be adorable and often, provides comic relief on the show. Cookie Monster along with his pals Big Bird and Elmo has become one of the most popular icons of the show.

  • How to Get to Sesame Street by Keilani Gleave Cast (In Order of Appearance) Count Von Count Bert Cookie Monster Big Bird Oscar T
How To Get To Sesame Street By Keilani Gleave Cast (in order of appearance) Count Von Count Bert Cookie Monster Big Bird Oscar the Grouch Setting: The Greenroom of the set of Sesame Street. The present. In this play the characters are playing themselves (there are no actors or voice talent controlling puppets, etc.) 1 (The scene opens on a greenroom, backstage of the set of sesame street. There is a table with Kraft Food Services, a couch, a chair, a large garbage can (Oscar’s), and a coffee table with some old magazines and a puzzle that has been partially completed. There is a door exiting the greenroom stage left and a door that goes to a restroom stage right. Cookie Monster is holding a box of cookies, which he keeps eating. Count Von Count is in the middle of a dramatic recap. He has a box of chicken nuggets.) COUNT: So I told them, “I ordered ten chicken nuggets, and you only gave me nine.” And they said, “No we didn’t.” So I pulled them all out of the box and counted them! Ah ah ah! (“Ah ah ah” is the way the COUNT laughs. Think Dracula.) BERT: You didn’t! COUNT: I did. One, two, three, four-- BERT: I know how to count. COOKIE: Well did they give you another one? COUNT: Yes. Ten nuggets! Ah ah ah. (Big Bird Enters.) BIG BIRD: Hey guys. I uh… I’ve got news… The show’s been cancelled. (Everyone is stunned and confused. Various “What?”s and “You’re not serious”s.) BERT: What do you mean ‘cancelled?’ BIG BIRD: We’re stopping.
