WESLEY FREY Curriculum Vitae Department of Biological Sciences 688 Life Sciences Building, Louisiana State University Ph. (225) 301-0512 Email: [email protected] Summary Graduate Student, Lab of Dr. Joomyeong Kim (College of Science, Louisiana State University) B.S., College of Science, Louisiana State University Experienced in molecular biology techniques on a wide range of organisms Diverse teaching experience Professional Experience Teaching Experience Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (LSU) -- Summer 2008, Summer 2009 Under Advisement of: Tiffany A. Simms Introductory Biology Lab for non-majors (BIOL 1005) Introductory Biology Lab for majors (BIOL 1208) Graduate Teaching Assistant (LSU) -- December 2010-Present Employed By: Dr. Wischusen Introductory Biology Lab for non-majors (BIOL 1005) Introductory Biology Lab for majors (BIOL 1208) Principles of Genetics (BIOL 2153) Research Experience I am classically trained in molecular biology (DNA, RNA and protein work) in a wide array of organisms, including E. coli, C. reinhardtii, S. cerevisiae, M. musculus and standard cell culture lines (human and mouse). I have also been trained in mouse husbandry, including the maintenance of many mouse knockout lines as well as management of complex breeding schemes. Recent endeavors include mouse behavioral analysis (specifically involving maternal care) and “dry” bench work including bioinformatic analysis of ChIP-seq data and small RNA data with the use of custom shell scripting. Future interests are focused on expanding my toolbox in RNAi, from delivery of smRNAs in vivo, to large-scale analysis of target transcripts. In the long-run, I hope to develop an efficient ncRNA gene delivery system that is effective in long-term silencing of a specific gene of interest. Undergraduate Student Worker (LSU) – May 2007-December 2010 Advisor: Dr. James Moroney Research Focus: Carbonic Anhydrases, specifically CAH6, involvement in CCM of C. reinhardtii Graduate Student (LSU) – December 2010 - Present Advisor: Dr. Joomyeong Kim Research Focus: Molecular function and evolutionary conservation of APeg3 in M. musculus. Protein interactions and evolutionary conservation of Peg3. Behavioral and molecular characterization of Peg3 conditional knockout mice. Education B.S.
