Transportation Information International Airports are located in Pamplona, Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, and Santiago de Compostela. Both Madrid and Barcelona are great cities to spend time in before or after your tour. For price and logistical convenience, we recommend flying into Madrid. When your international flight arrives in Madrid, Barcelona, or Málaga be aware if you have a domestic connection that domestic flights may leave from a different part of the airport than international flights. Just ask at airport information. The general airport website www.aena.es has a great section detailing how to access any Spanish airport by taxi, train or metro. They have an English version of this site if you just click on English in the upper right hand corner of the home page. Air Travel within Europe and Spain European carriers such as Alitalia, British Airways, Sabena, and Lufthansa service several cities in Spain. It is also possible to fly into small airports from other European cities as well as from Pamplona, Santiago de Compostela, Málaga, Jerez de la Frontera, Sevilla, Madrid and Barcelona. Try the following national airlines: Iberia Airlines - Tel: 800-772-4642 www.iberia.com (inglés=English) AirEuropa Airlines http://www.air-europa.com There are also many low cost airlines that fly in and out of Spain, see the list below. ABSTRACT: Spain has been a popular destination among Britons for some centuries. There is written evidence of their journeys to our country since the 18th century when our country was said to be old-fashioned, stuck in time and remote from European reality. This, together with our History, facts such as the Spanish Civil War and the Franco dictatorship, form the image of Spain. Through this study, we will conclude whether they have acquired an acuurate imatge or a distorted one, and how much the idea of “Spain is diferent” has iinfluenced their perception of us; our traditions, society, politics and history. Making a comparison with the first travel writings, we will see if we are that that different or, in reality, we are just the same as we used to be portrayed in the first travel writings. KEY WORDS: Travel books, Travel writing, British travellers, , travels, Spanish transition, British travellers accounts on Spain, stereotypes, Black Legend RESUMEN España ha sido un destino común entre los británicos desde hace siglos.

The magazine’s redesign and in- novative new contents over the last year have met with broad approval among our readers and advertisers, but we do not rest on our laurels. This is a special, more varied issue dedicated in part to business and trade issues in recognition of our corporate supporters and the growing number of new members, many of whom are young professional Spaniards living and working in the UK. It seems only right that we should mark this year’s 125th anniversary of the foundation of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in London with an article on its history and devel- opment. The Chamber’s evolution mirrors the growing impor- tance of Anglo-Spanish trade, along with the hugely expanded presence in the UK of major Spanish companies in key sectors- a topic covered with insight in this issue by Tom Burns . I am delighted to bring on board as my deputy Isabel del Rio, with years of experience in the world of media, including BBC and the Financial Times.
