Evreii Khazari. Istorie Si Etnografie Româneasca/Khazar Jews Adrian Majuru Adrian MAJURU EVREII KHAZARI. ISTORIE ªI ETNOGRAFIE ROMÂNEASCà Motto: „Se ºtie cã atunci când e sã disparã un popor, întâi dispare înalta societate ºi o datã cu ea ºi literatura.” În veacurile VIII ºi IX, acesta s-a extins spre nord, est ºi vest, cucerind noi teritorii. Spre nord influen˛a lor a atins regiunea Vladimirului ºi a Moskovei, spre vest linia Nistrului iar spre est, mun˛ii Ural ºi lacul Aral, unde locuiau turcii oghuzi. Începând cu secolul al IX-lea ºi îndeosebi în veacurile X ºi XI, numeroase comunitã˛i khazare emigreazã ºi se stabilesc în Polonia, Rhutenia, Ungaria, România ºi în Balcani, formând aºezãri 6 „In the early Middle Ages a powerful state, inhabited by the Khazars, existed on the coast of the Black Sea.” (Raymond Leslie Buell, Polland: Key to Europe, New York, N.Y.: A.A. Knopf, 1939, p. 288) „The immigration (originally transmigration) of fews to Poland started in the middle of the IX century. (…) Chazars was situated in the vicinity of Kiev and extended to the Dniestr (Nistru n.a.), it ceased to exist in 1969.” (Michal M. Borwicz, A Thousand years of Jewish Life in Poland, Paris, 1955, p. 18). 7 Vezi Khazaria (586-1083 A.D.), essay bassed on Dennis A. Leventhal’s article, Suggested Modifications to an MW Army List: The Khazars, Saga, no. 73, February 2000, pp. 31-35. 8 „(…) kaghanul se îndreptã spre trimisul evreilor întrebându-l ce avea de zis despre religia sa. Cum to˛i pãreau mira˛i de gândirea lui, rabinul le explicã: Voi nu sunte˛i khazari. Sunte˛i niºte evrei care vã întoarce˛i acolo unde vã e locul: cãtre adevãratul Dumnezeu al strãbunilor voºtri.” Nici n-o sã vã cerem ca o datã cu crucea sã vã însuºi˛i ºi limba noastrã greacã. Dimpotrivã, ˛ine˛i-vã sãnãtoºi limba voastrã khazarã. Dar ave˛i grijã, dacã ve˛i trece la legea iudaicã ori la cea mahomedanã, n-o sã mai fie tot aºa. Cãci o datã cu credin˛a lor o sã trebuiascã sã le însuºi˛i ºi limba.” (Idem, p. 130.) 9 Vezi site-ul The Khazar Heritage, cap. The Jewish Kingdom of Khazaria. Despre teritoriul imperiului khazar, aflãm: „The geographical expansion did not decrease until the khazar empire covered an area from Hungary-Austria in the west to the Aral sea in the east, Kiev-Upper in the North and the Black and Caspian seas and Caucasus in south. They installed counts (the so called Jewish princes) in Hungary-Austria, they taxated Goths in Crimeea and Greek-Byzantine towns and landlords at the northern shores of the Black sea, they taxated Rhus merchands and raiders and all other trading through their territory.” 10 „A khazar official could be of Turk, Slav, Greek, Rhus, Arab, Goth, Roman and Magyar ethnical origin, as well as a confessional Christian, Jew, Muslim or maybe just pagan. They then just had to be multilingual and capable of communicating with all these nationalities.” (Ibidem) 11 Arthur Koestler, op. cit., pp. 45-47. „(…)

  • The Szeklers and Hungarians from Romania
STUDIA UBB GEOGRAPHIA, LX, 2, 2015, pp. 53-68 (RECOMMENDED CITATION) THE SZEKLERS AND HUNGARIANS FROM ROMANIA GR. P. POP1, A. NIŢĂ1 ABSTRACT. – The Szeklers and Hungarians from Romania. This study regards, as its main topic, the possibility of establishing at present, a geodemographical entity on Romania’s territory, since certain representatives of the Hungarian ethnical minority in our country, and with a particular insistence of those in the vicinity of the western border, always remember to bring into view the problem of establishing an autonomy, common to a Székely Land, located in the central area of our country, which would include Mureş, Harghita and Covasna counties. Without carrying out a detailed account of this situation, it needs to be mentioned, just as it will emerge of the following presentation, that such an approach has neither the most reduced geodemographical support, since the Szeklers, after being assimilated by the Hungarian ethnic group, are no longer present at the census of 20 October 2011. By taking into account the above mentioned aspects, in order to be able to respond to the insistent requests for autonomy in Transylvania, we proceeded to highlight, through a fairly detailed approach of the Hungarian ethnical minority, obviously in point of the number of inhabitants and of their distribution on Romania’s territory, resulting of this the fact that the number of Hungarians is of 1,227,623 people, value which related to those 20,121,641 inhabitants of Romania, means 6.10%. The total number of mentioned Hungarians is characterized by a pronounced concentration on Romania’s territory, standing out by creating a corridor with a diagonal aspect, on the northwest- southeast direction, consisting of seven counties, the first four (Satu Mare, Bihor, Sălaj and Cluj) being registered with 2.01% (404,561 inhabitants) of those 6.10% Hungarians, the following three (Mureş, Harghita and Covasna) accounting for 3.03% (609,033 inhabitants), and hence in the corridor are present 5.04% (1,013,594 Hungarians) of 6.10% at the level of the entire country.

  • Terra Ultrasilvana.

The present article tackles a very actual and heavily debated topic in our country, that of the regionalization. Our aim is to present how the memory of belonging to a historical region, the ethnical criteria, the local/regional identity and pride influence the outlining of the regionalization projects from the North–West Region of Transylvania. As a case study we have chosen to unfold the regionalization initiatives which target the North–West Region due to its unique character, being an administrative unit, which during history formed part of a multiethnic province with many autonomous regions. In order to better understand the current decentralization projects of various political parties we have considered also necessary to present the historical regions, ethnical– and administrative territorial configuration of Transylvania throughout the centuries. We wish to prove that despite the devices used in the regionalization process, stating that its role is purely economic reality shows that neither the ethnical nor the historical criteria can be neglected in case of Transylvania, an extremely heterogonous region with strong regional identities. THE AUTOCEPHALY OF THE ROMANIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH: 125 YEARS SINCE ITS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT by Theodor Damian Father Theodor Damian, PhD, is Professor of Philosophy and Ethics at the Metropolitan College of New York. He presented this paper at the annual meeting of CAREE, held in March 2011. Introduction From antiquity, the ancestors of the Romanian people, the Geto-Dacians, living in the Carpatho-Danubiano-Pontic area, were well known, according to ancient sources, for their profound spirituality and monotheistic religion. That is why Christianity, first preached to them by the apostle Andrew, was welcome and rapidly took root in their minds and hearts. For centuries, the Romanian Orthodox Church, as a spiritual mother of the Romanian people, bestowed eternal values on it, forming its identity and helping it live with dignity among the other peoples in the area.

VOIEVODATELE ROMÂNEŞTI DIN TRANSILVANIA ÎN SECOLELE IX-XIII Ecaterina OPREA, Facultatea de Istorie şi Filosofie The Romanian voivodeships of Transylvania in 9 th – 13 th centuries” it’s a controversial problem due to the political context generated by the political fight between Hungarians and Romanians for Transylvania. We have analyzed the voivodeship of Menumorut in Crishana, the voivodeship of Glad-Ahtum in Banat and the ,,terra Ultrasilvana” of Gelou-Gyula, all mentioned in ,,The Gesta Hungarorum” of Anonymus and other sources before and after their conquest until 13 th century, through the Hungarian politics of colonization, influence of Catholicism, organization of counties etc. This period is significant by the organization of Voivodeship of Transylvania.
