The city on the Tiber. The "eternal city." Imperial. Proud. It was ca. AD 63. The great fire of AD 64 was yet to happen. Nero was his embarrassing self, unaware that on June 9, AD 68 he would commit suicide. Paul, Christ's apostle to the nations, was also in the city, a prisoner for the gospel. Several of his co-workers and companions were also with him. At the same time, far away in the city of Colosse, in the Lycus River valley of western Asia Minor (now Turkey), a vital issue was coming to a head. But first, let's explore a little background. Paul had already preached the gospel in Ephesus, an important city by the Cayster River. He stayed there for two years, with the result "that all who dwelt in Asia [a Roman province] heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks" (Acts 19:10).

FREE Circulation TheHighlander 5,000 Thursday 29 March 2012 | Issue 25 Haliburton County’s Independent Newspaper Feds shine on Northern Lights with 98K grant By Stephen Patrick Federal Conservative MP Barry Devolin has announced a grant of almost $100,000 from its Skills Link program to the Haliburton Branch of Northern Lights Canada. The monies will be used to fund a 16-week program for 10 young adults to help them successfully enter the labour force. Lindsay Ketner, Northern Lights Vocational Rehab Services team leader, told The Highlander that the 10 successful applicants, aged 19 to 27, would start out augmenting their employable skills in a classroom environment for the first six weeks before spending the remaining 10 weeks working for a local employer, with the program picking up the tab. “We’re very excited about this program,” said Ketner. “We had many more applicants than we had places for, and we’re looking forward to working with this great group of people. They come to us with a variety of skills already – some administrative, some in construction and hospitality, like cooking, for example. They’ve all had some difficulty in the past connecting to the labour force, so we’ll be looking at each individual’s skills, interests, and past work experience. We also provide a ‘life skills’ component in the classroom part of the program. This program is specifically targeted at young people who are not currently employed, or collecting EI [Employment Insurance] benefits. “Our local employers, as usual, have been very co-operative and we hope that many of the young people will be able to continue to work for them after the 16 weeks.” In a press release, Devolin commented that, “Our government is creating opportunities for youth to succeed through support for initiatives like Skills Link, from the human resources and skills development department.

ALL IN THE FAMILY January 27, 2020 It's the Bible study Evangelista show and I’m Sonja Corbitt happy to be with you. I am the Bible study Evangelista. We are in our ‘Then Sings My Soul’ series for 2020. We’re looking at a vision for 2020. What makes our soul sing? What makes our soul sing is proper priorities. And so, we looked, in our first show we looked at how to put God first and making him our top priority. And then we looked at worship and rest as a pair that go together in a Sabbath, or for us as Christians, a Sunday observance. And today we are going to look at vocation. The next call under holiness and under a love for God, loving God with all our heart soul mind and strength, we saw in last week’s show, the very next priority is then our vocation. So, we’re going to talk about family. The name of the show this week is All in the Family. We are going to talk about our families of origin, and we’ll talk then also about our vocation, whether that’s to – well it’s always to community, but whether that’s in a marriage, or holy orders, or a call to religious life, and maybe a little bit about singleness. I have just a few things to say about that mostly because there’s so much involved in this kind of discussion on family. I’m going to try my best to get in everything that I have prepared, but also, I’m going to try to narrow the focus really to our vocation to marriage, and we are going to do that in just a moment.

Desperation to Destiny Stanley Arumugam Feb 2012 - Ver.12 1 Contents Part One: The Woman's Initiative Introduction Chapter One: The Place of Desperation Chapter Two: The Point of Decision Chapter Three: The Spirit of Determination Chapter Four: The Attitude of Defiance Chapter Five: The Heart of Dedication Part Two: Christ's Response Chapter Six: Coming Out of the Crowd Chapter Seven: Called By Your Own Name Chapter Eight: Completed by His Touch 2 Introduction Have you been really desperate? So much so, that you feel you can’t breathe; that life will slip away, that tomorrow must not come; that you could end it all, that you’d rather die than go through; that you will do anything but anything to get you what you desire most; that you will beg even your enemy to save your life? These are places of deep desperation, ripe with the promise and hope of transformation. We come into a place of desperation either out of deep pain or deep promise; a place where we want to avoid death or seek abundant life. Either way, we need the touch of God to propel us into a new dimension – which cannot be achieved in our own strength. If you are in any of these places then I invite you to come on a journey with me as we learn how we can grow and discover our destiny, primarily through making space for God in our lives or allowing God to make space for His work with our willingness. Paradoxically, this place of desperation is the place where God dwells in fullness.
