The Clearwater | Full Time Staff Position | 2019-2020 School Year

Position Summary:

Clearwater Staff are hired and held responsible by School Meeting. Employed adults at Clearwater are referred to as “Staff,” a term used to distinguish the role adults at Clearwater from the role of traditional . In an effort to create an environment that truly allows staff and to be equal, staff members must actively combat society’s preconceived notion that adults equal authority and knowledge. Staff at The Clearwater School are available as facilitators, mentors, peers, and friends while students pursue their own interests. They act as dependable stewards of the school; facilitate access to resources; exemplify mature practice of personal fulfillment and societal engagement; and anchor school culture to values of interpersonal respect. Clearwater students are not required to follow a predetermined and adults do not have authority to unilaterally establish or enforce rules.

Term:

Clearwater is seeking a full-time staff member starting September 1st. All staff are expected to work 40hrs a week + occasional overtime for events and after school activities. Staff vacation time aligns with the school calendar + three flexible weeks in the summer.

Compensation: 1st year staff: 10 month (Sept - June) salary of $40,000 + $5,500 in benefits Compensation is subject to change. Staff Compensation is determined annually by school meeting. Compensation is determined based on the school’s current student enrollment and billed income.

Required Qualifications:

● Belief in the natural impulse of children (and adults!) to strive for personal growth, and a commitment to one’s own personal growth; ​ ​ ● Understanding of Clearwater’s approach to - this may include experience with Sudbury, , self-directed , etc; ● Experience working with of a wide range of ages; ● Must be extremely reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious; ● Possess high levels of professionalism, personal maturity, and authenticity; ● Excellent communication and literacy skills, including abilities to express thoughts in writing; tailor communication levels for different age groups and developmental levels; and interact effectively with children and adults from a wide variety of backgrounds; ● Be an interested, interesting, engaged, and passionate person ● Ability to work both collaboratively and independently on multiple simultaneous projects;

● Strong self-management skills, including high levels of initiative and ability to authentically and effectively prioritize, including the ability to decline requests from children when appropriate; ● High level of computer literacy, including fluency with word processing, email, and more; ● Ability to work in an environment with frequent distractions; ● Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and family data, as well as to keep a constant eye out for the protection of student privacy in less formal ways; ● Commitment to upholding equal right between all people, particularly between youth and adults; ● Ability to clear a Washington state and Federal background check

Additional Qualifications: (Absence of these qualities will not necessarily result in an application being denied)

● Background in social justice analysis and anti-oppression work with an understanding of intersectionality; ● Framework around youth empowerment and ; ● Experience with non-hierarchical organizational structures; ● Experience with mediation; ● Passion for early-childhood education; ● Experience with writing grants; ● Administrative skills; ● Have a specialty or skill you are passionate about and be ready and able to share that skill;
