SEPTEMBER 15 16 17 18 - 2010 BOLOGNA, ITALY an event produced by Associazione Culturale Shape Con il patrocinio del Comune di Bologna, della Provincia di Bologna, della Regione Emilia Romagna, dell’Accademia delle Belle Arti, di Unibocultura- Università di Bologna e con il sostegno della Fondazione del Monte e della Fondazione Teatro Comunale presenta: roBOt03 - digital paths into music and art - IBRIDAZIONE * Dopo il grande successo delle due edizioni precedenti, roBOt Festival torna a sondare nuove forme d'arte, di sperimentazione ed intrattenimento, calandosi per la terza volta in un mondo dove il rinnovamento sociale, estetico e ideale è caratter- izzato da un continuo processo di innovazione tecnologica. Un’innovazione tecnologica ormai pervasiva la quale ha portato ad una definitiva ibridazione fra uomo e macchina, ultimo stadio di un evoluzione che può definirsi socio-tecnologica. Ibridazione. Questo è il tema principale che roBOt03 ha intenzi- one di sviscerare in quattro giorni di workshop, conferenze e sopratutto tanta musica di qualità. L'edizione del 2010 sarà caratterizzata di fatti da una ricchis- sima programmazione artistica: ATOM TM, JON HOPKINS, KING MIDAS SOUND, ALAN1, TOBI NEU- MANN, DONNACHA COSTELLO, JESSE ROSE, BASS CLEF, REBOOT, CASSIUS, ROBOT KOCH feat. Nella magnifica cornice del comunale i due dj francesi, accompagnati da una band composta da musicisti jazz e funk, uniranno la loro sapienza digitale al calore umano della splendida voce della californiana Dani Siciliano, voce e musa ispiratrice di Matthew Herbert. L'immaterialità digitale contro la carnalità analogica, il battito quadripartito della house contro il genere dell'improvvisazione per antonomasia. Un progetto imperdi- bile: gioia creativa allo stato puro, dove (re)interpretare gemme del proprio reperto- rio e grandi classici senza tempo. Il compositore britannico, autore di numerose collaborazioni e remix per artisti del calibro di Brian Eno ed Herbie Hancock, porterà a Bologna un nuovo esperimento composto da consueti prismi musicali, gelidi echi dubstep che si condensano attorno ad un crescendo ritmico di stampo tipicamente idm, ma questa volta accompagnati dal pianoforte classico e dalle immagini di un artista visuale. Una performance davvero imperdi- bile. Una serata insolita, in cui rimanere estasiati dalle contaminazioni fra musica da ballo e da ascolto in un’atmosfera tanto sofisticata quanto magnificente come solo i palchi del Comunale sanno creare. La serata non finirà allo spegnersi delle luci del foyer. Dani Siciliano e Noze saranno infatti protagonisti della consolle nell'esclusivo afterparty del Kindergarten targato roBOt Festival. A fare gli onori di casa ci penseranno i Pasta Boys, autentica istituzione nel panorama del djing nostrano. * IL FESTIVAL roBOt allunga, anche in questa edizione, i suoi tentacoli elettronici verso Palazzo Re Enzo, un altro tesoro del patrimonio storico-architettonico di Bologna, e verso i club che hanno fatto la storia della nightlife bolognese: Link, Cassero e Kindergarten. * Giovedi 16 settembre, la prima giornata del festival, roBOt svilupperà la propria struttura organizzativa/narrativa e di ricerca in due distinti percorsi, uno diurno e l'altro notturno. Entrambe le sezioni saranno protese all'analisi delle ultime tendenze nel campo delle arti digitali. Fra le stanze nobiliari di palazzo Re Enzo verranno presentati i progetti del bando CALL4ROBOT: lavori artistici sviluppati per indagare il rapporto fra le tecniche “classiche”, dalla pittura alla performance, dalla fotografia alla scultura, e i ritrovati tecnologici e digitali di nuova generazione. Tra i selezionati citiamo SYNTHESIS di Micron, il gruppo di ricerca di Serena Zanconato e Rajan Craveri nato alla scuola Civica di Arte Drammatica Paolo Grassi 2005, vincitore nel 2008 del premio del pubblico al Flash Festival di Torino, con un cortometraggio di video danza. Merita menzione anche Emanuele Kabu nella sezione video e Victor Zappi, phD all’Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia di Genova, con la sua installazione “Virtual_Sequencing”. Riflettori puntanti anche sulla sezione Screenings, rassegna di cinque documentari che indagano la scena della musica elettronica nelle sue fondamentali costituenti: persone, arte, strumenti e contesti. Stili di vita e percorsi di creazione rivelati. Da segnalare anche i titoli “8 BIT” di Marcin Ramocki e Justin Strawhand, un documentario ibrido che esamina l'influenza dei videogiochi sulla cultura contemporanea, “RIP, a remix manifesto” di Brett Gaylor, manifesto della "revisione" del concetto di proprietà intellettuale, “We call it Skweee” di Iacopo Patierno e David Giese, un viaggio nella musica Scandinava, “Warp 20 New York city”, di Lorenzo Fonda, un video che documenta l'evento del settem- bre 2009 a New York per festeggiare il 20° anniversario della storica etichetta. Fra le imponenti arcate del cortile del palazzo, la selezione musicale verrà affidata a Luca Trevisi aka LTJ & Memoryman aka Dj Uovo, membro della crew dei Pasta Boys; all'attesissima performance di Andrea Sartori, ma sopratutto a Bass Cleff, primo ospite internazionale della kermesse a Palazzo Re Enzo. Ralph Cumbers (aka Bass Clef) nonostante le sue sonorità tipicamente Dubstep, è un fantastico centrifugatore di mixer, piatti, manopole ma anche tromboni e fiati vari, usati come viaggio interstellare verso un fenomenale carnevale musicale del terzo millennio. Dopo che le pesanti ante del portone monumentale di Palazzo Re Enzo verranno chiuse, il roBOt festival si sposterà al Cassero. Lo storico gay club, inserito nel meraviglioso spazio della ex Salara bolognese, farà da proscenio ad una one night interamente dedicata alla new disco. Assoluto headliner della serata sarà Daniele Baldelli, noto padre della Cosmic, un personaggio che ha definito i contorni del dj quando ancora non esistevano i mixer, mischiando stili dall' afro all'elettronica con uno stile che non aveva e non ha epigoni. Ad accompaganre Baldelli ci sarà Diskjokke, astro nascente della new disco norvegese, e delfino di Prince Tomas. Cerimonieri dell'evento saranno Wawashi, dj resident del Cassero, e Cevo, dj della Discomobile, staff partner di roBOt Festival in questa serata. * Venerdi 17 settembre il Festival entra nel cuore della sua programmazione. Ancora una volta palazzo Re Enzo ospiterà la parte più sperimentale della kermesse. Oltre ai progetti di Call4roBOt il magnifico Salone del Podestà ospiterà Robot Koch feat. Grace, producer berlinese, già mente ritmica del progetto Jahcoozi (scuderia Bpitch), che citerà con inconfondibile gusto il soul, il funk, il jazz e l'hip hop più avanguardista. Ad aprire la performance ci saranno Weight & Treble, creatura meravigliosa di Manuel Giannini e Massimo Carozzi che percorre in modo sinuoso i territori di una techno-dub minimale. In questo live set a roBOt, anche la presenza speciale della voce di Suz, già ospite di un roBOt-ini col suo progetto innervato su piste dubstep e trip hop. Seguirà il live dei King Midas Sound, ultima creazione di Kevin Martin, saliti alla ribalta internazion- ale nel 2009 e band rivelazione dell' ultimo Sonar Festival di Barcellona. Non mancherà la sezione dedicata al contesto più dance del panorama elettronico italiano con i dj set di Calma vs Nmt, The Electricalz e Fabrizio Maurizi presso la Sala del Capitano, la bomboniera di Palazzo Re Enzo. The entire time I was listening to it the only thing I could think was »That poor woman!«. Whoever advised her that songs like Bitch I’m Madonna were a good idea deserves to be locked in a room with Mark Ronson for an entire day. Luckily there is some fantastic new music out there which more than makes up for the inane racket created by the Peter Pan of pop. By JOHN BITTLES For example we have Vessels, Fort Romeau, Phildel, Mu-Ziq, SCNTST, Mike Simonetti and more bringing out albums which ably counteract all the shit you find in the charts. You might also notice that this week begins a brand new trend where I give each album a rating out of ten. The powers that be were against it, and have made numerous attempts on my life, but until I get bored of it, this new regime is here to stay. So, put on your cowboy hat, ensure your whiskers are well groomed, that the cat is fed, and let us begin… This week we’ll start with an album which has been rocking my stereo ever since it came into my life. Dilate by former math rockers Vessels sees the Leeds-based four piece move away from the post rock of their previous output and into the world of groove-some techno and late night electronica. This is so good one listen can give you an erection for a week (not clinically proven).

For Rakei’s Late Night Tales, the first mix of the acclaimed series’ 20th year, the ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 28-year-old modern soul icon effortlessly stamps his own jazz and hip-hop driven sound all over this gorgeous array of handpicked tracks. A beautifully layered blend that is mirrored in the music he’s made, it comes as no surprise that such a supremely gifted songwriter should deliver a mix that is all about the song. “I wanted to try and showcase as many people as I knew on this mix,” says Rakei. “My idea of ​ ​ ​ Late Night Tales was to distil a series of relaxing moments; the whole conceptual sonic of relaxation. So, I was trying to think of all the collaborators and friends that I knew, who’d recorded stuff with this horizontal vibe. Plus, I was also trying to help my friends' stuff get into the world. I know the story of Khruangbin blowing up after appearing on the series (in fact, I think that's how I discovered them). So, the main idea was to create a certain atmosphere, but also to help some of my favourite collaborators and buddies to give their songs a little push out into the world.
