Masters racers seek to reach their best beyond the public perception of “prime years.” Masters racing is designed for every level of skier ability, from entry level racers through ex-national team members. Masters racing provides the next step for up and coming accomplished skiers who are late bloomers, NASTAR and college racers, ski instructors, former professional racers and even ex-national team members. Masters, from ages 18 to over 90, compete in the same events and on similar courses as used for World Cup and Olympic alpine skiing events. Slalom, giant slalom, super G and downhill are all included in the 200-plus races in this season’s schedule. Masters series are conducted within each of the eight geographic divisions of USSA including Alaska, Central, Eastern, Far West, Intermountain, Northern, Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain. Each USSA division has a specific contact person who can provide details on divisional competition programs; see contacts listed later in this chapter. In addition to divisional competition, there are opportunities to compete on a regional, national, and international level. The USSA Alpine Masters Program is just one of the participants in the International Ski Federation’s (FIS) Masters Cup in the U.S., Canada, South America and Europe. The highlight of the race season in the USA is the Phillips 66 U.S. Alpine Masters Championships scheduled March 13-18, 2017 at Mammoth Mountain, CA. Masters racing offers more than high-quality ski competition. It offers an opportunity to meet, ski and compete with a group of extraordinary individuals from all walks of life. Many members of the ski industry compete including ski area executives, ski equipment and clothing entrepreneurs, former national team members, and honored members of the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame. Masters racing is highly social, and the masters are a friendly group. Of the reasons current masters list for participation, camaraderie is always among the first.

    BUCk H ill - from the website Ploces to see https://ptoceandsee.com/wiki/buck-hil Bre.ndon Maness @ flickr Buck Hill is a ski hill in the north central United States, in the city of Burnsville, Minnesota, a suburb south of Minneapolis. lt is one of three ski areas located within the Twin Cities metropolitan area, the others are Afton Alps and Hyland Ski and Snowboard Area. Buck Hill opened in L954 and offers ski, snowboard, and tubing trails. Artificial snow is often utilized for maintaining the slopes, because while Minnesota's winters are cold, the snowfall is relatively low for a ski area, averaging less than per year. Buck Hill faces east, overlooking the adjacent lnterstate 35. The ski area is lighted for night skiing, and operates three chairlifts (2 quads, 1 triple) and multiple surface tows (trail map). The base area consists of a parking lot and a short strip of lodges. The ski runs use the east face of the physical hill, with the other sides occupied by residential housing, with a municipal water tower sharing the summit. The vertical drop of the ski area is a modest 310 feet (9a m). H istory Buck Hill was named by early settlers, who noticed its summit was a gathering spot for Mdewakanton Dakota to watch male deer (bucks) drink at Crystal Lake. The ski area was started by Chuck Stone, who discovered the sport as a child recovering from polio, and had worked as a lift attendant at Suicide Six in Vermont. Returning to Minneapolis, he wanted to start a ski area, and went to the public library to search out viable topography.

    2015-2016 Buck Hill Ski Racing Team Update Another ski season is almost upon us! Hopefully, everyone’s in good health, and ready to start! The staff is anxious to maintain the level of excellence that enabled the team to be recognized as a Gold Certified Club by the United States Ski Association. The team is proud of the Award and is determined to build on the recognition with more success in the upcoming year. We’ve included important information for the 2015/2016 ski season in this packet. If you have further questions after reviewing this information, or if you’re a new member unfamiliar with the program, we encourage you to call Erich Sailer, Program Director, Colby Lund, Assistant Program Director, or Jacob Olsen, Team Administrator. (See Contact Information on Page 8) Buck Hill Ski Racing Team Objectives 1. Provide a structured program so that each individual athlete can reach his or her own potential. 2. Provide the opportunity to grow physically and emotionally as young men and women. 3. Upgrade ski racing in our community, our division and on our hill, and put racers on the US Ski Team. 4. Provide the best coaching possible and still not discriminate against the less privileged. In fact, the team is a non-profit undertaking for the Buck Hill Ski Area. 5. Provide all this for the racers while they are still able to live at home, with the guidance of parents and without the need to change schools. 6. Keep our racers’ futures and education in mind. We will work with universities and colleges to give our racers the opportunity of a ski scholarship.
